And on the authority of Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, who said:

While the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was sitting with his Companions,

a man reviled Abu Bakr and insulted him,

but Abu Bakr remained silent.

Then the man insulted him a second time,

and Abu Bakr remained silent.

Then he insulted him a third time,

so Abu Bakr retaliated and defended himself.

At that, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood up when Abu Bakr retaliated.

"Are you displeased with me, O Messenger of Allah?"

"An angel descended from the heavens to refute what he was saying to you,

but when you retaliated, Satan entered,
