The distinction between self-admiration and rejoicing in a good deed.
One must not confuse rejoicing in one’s good deeds and acts of obedience with being conceited about them.
For the believer’s joy in a good deed is merely joy in Allah’s granting of success to perform it.
It is also a sense of optimism regarding its reward and a hope for it from Allah.
The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
"Whoever is gladdened by his good deed and saddened by his evil deed, that is the believer."
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and authenticated by al-Albani.
As for self-admiration,
it is when a person looks only to himself and becomes deluded by his own ego.
He prides himself on his good deed, believing that he himself deserves the credit for having performed it.
