The marriage of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace
From Zainab bint Jahsh, may God be pleased with her
The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, got married
Zainab bint Jahsh, may God be pleased with her
On the morning of her wedding, the veil was removed
This was in Dhu al-Qa`dah
From the fifth year of Hijra
The wisdom behind the marriage of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace
Zainab bint Jahsh, may God be pleased with her
Abolishing the widespread custom of adoption at that time, as God Almighty said, so that the believers would not be embarrassed by the wives of their pretenders if they died and became pregnant and God’s command was in effect.
Al-Hafiz Ibn Katheer said: That is, we only permitted you to marry her, and we did that so that there would be no difficulty for the believers in marrying pretended divorcees.
This is because the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, had adopted Zaid bin Haritha, may God be pleased with him, before his prophethood, and he was called Zaid bin Muhammad.
When God cut off this percentage, God Almighty said:
God has not made for a man two hearts within his body, and He has not made your wives except that of which you may pretend to be your mothers
And what made your claims about your children is what you say with your mouths, and God speaks the truth and He guides the path
I call them to their fathers and swear to God
Then this added clarity and confirmation to the occurrence of the marriage of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, to Zainab bint Jahshr, may God be pleased with her, when Zaid bin Haritha, may God be pleased with him, divorced her.
That is why he said in the prohibition verse, “And the descendants of your sons who are from your descendants, to beware of Ibn al-Da’i, for that was a lot of them.”
Sermon of Zainab bint Jahshr, may God be pleased with her
The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, proposed to Zainab bint Jahshr, may God be pleased with her, and she thought that he, may God bless him and grant him peace, wanted her for himself.
When she learned that he wanted it for Zaid bin Haritha, may God be pleased with him, she refused
Imam bin Jarir al-Tabari narrated in his interpretation with an authentic mursal chain of transmission on the authority of Qatada, who said in the Almighty’s saying:
It is not for a believing man, male or female, when God and His Messenger have decided a matter to have any choice regarding their matter
He said: This verse was revealed about Zainab bint Jahshr, may God be pleased with her, and she was the paternal aunt of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace.
So the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, proposed to her, and she agreed and saw that he was proposing to her himself
When she learned that he was proposing to her to Zaid bin Haritha, may God be pleased with him, she refused and denied it
So God revealed, and it is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when God and His Messenger have decided a matter, to have any choice regarding its matter
He said, so I followed him after that and was satisfied
Zainab, may God be pleased with her, stayed with Zaid bin Haritha, may God be pleased with him, for nearly a year
Then he came to complain about it to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace
Imam Al-Bukhari and Al-Tirmidhi narrated, and the wording is by Al-Tirmidhi on the authority of Anas, may God be pleased with him, who said
When this verse was revealed and you concealed in yourself what God would reveal regarding Zainab bint Jahshr, may God be pleased with her
Zaid, may God be pleased with him, came complaining about her divorce, so he asked the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, for advice
The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Keep your husband and fear God.”
Al-Hafiz said in Al-Fath and Al-Hassil that what the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, was hiding
It was God telling him that she would become his wife, which was making him hide it
For fear of what people would say, he married his son’s wife, and God wanted to nullify the pre-Islamic people’s rulings on adoption
With a matter that cannot be refuted, he married a woman whom he calls his son
This was done by the Imam of the Muslims so that he would be more likely to accept it
Imam Muslim narrated in his Sahih on the authority of Anas bin Malik, may God be pleased with him, who said
When Zainab's waiting period had passed, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said to Zaid
Go and remind her of Ali. He said, so he went until he came to her while she was fermenting her dough
He said, when I saw it, it became so great in my chest that I could not look at it
The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, mentioned her, so she turned on my back and turned on my heel
So I said, “O Zainab, give me good news. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, sent me to remind you.”
She said: I will not do anything until I command my Lord Almighty
So she stood in her mosque and the Qur’an was revealed
The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, came and entered her without permission
It was narrated by Imam Al-Bukhari in his Sahih and Al-Tirmidhi in his Jami’, and the wording is by Al-Tirmidhi
On the authority of Anas bin Malik, may God be pleased with him, he said
When this verse was revealed about Zainab bint Jahsh, may God be pleased with her
When Zaid had finished with her, we married her to her
He said: She used to be proud of the wives of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace
You say: I will marry you to my family, and God will marry me from above the seven heavens
The marriage feast of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, to Zainab, may God be pleased with her
The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was in love with Zainab bint Jahsh, may God be pleased with her, when we lived
Imam Al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih on the authority of Anas, may God be pleased with him, who said:
When the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was familiar with Zainab bint Jahsh, may God be pleased with her
So he satisfied the people with bread and meat
Imam Muslim narrated in his Sahih on the authority of Anas, may God be pleased with him, who said
The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, did not treat any of his wives more or better than what he treated Zainab.
Imam Al-Nawawi said
It is possible that the reason for this is gratitude for God’s grace
In that God Almighty married her to her by revelation, not a guardian or witnesses other than others
Our correct doctrine, well-known among our companions, is that his marriage, may God bless him and grant him peace, is valid without a guardian or witnesses
There is no need for that regarding him, may God bless him and grant him peace
This disagreement applies to others other than Zainab
As for Zainab, it is stipulated, and God knows best
Imam Al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih on the authority of Anas, may God be pleased with him, who said
It was built after the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, with Zainab bint Jahsh, with bread and meat
So I sent a caller for the food
Then people come, eat and leave
Then people come, eat and leave
So I prayed until I did not find anyone to pray to
The descent of the veil
When the people had eaten, groups of them sat talking in the house of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace
Imam Muslim narrated in his Sahih on the authority of Anas, may God be pleased with him

The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was sitting
His wife turned her face to the wall
They burdened the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace
Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, left
He greeted his wives and then returned
When they saw the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, he had returned
They thought they had burdened him
He said, "They started at the door and all of them came out."
The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, came until the curtain was loosened
He entered and only stayed for a short time until he came out
This verse was revealed
So the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, went out and read them to the people
O you who have believed, do not enter the houses of the Prophet unless you are given permission to eat without looking on
But if you are invited, enter, and when you are fed, spread out, not desiring any conversation
This used to annoy the Prophet and he would feel ashamed of you
The two sheikhs narrated it in their Sahihs
On the authority of Anas bin Malik, may God be pleased with him, he said
The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, became a bride with Zainab bint Jahsh, may God be pleased with her
He married her in the city
So invite people to eat after the break of day
So the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, sat down and some men sat with him after the people got up
Until the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, got up and walked, and I walked with him
Until he reached Aisha's room, may God be pleased with her
Then he thought they had left, so he returned and I returned with him
When they were sitting in their place, he came back and the second time came back
Until he reached the door of Aisha's room, may God be pleased with her
So he returned and I returned with him, and they had risen
So he put a veil between me and him and lowered the veil
Anas, may God be pleased with him, said
I am the newest person to know these verses
The wives of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, were veiled
Imam Ibn al-Qayyim said
These are the wives of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace
They are the mothers of the believers in prohibition and sanctity only
Not in the forbidden
No one should be alone with them or look at them
Rather, God has commanded them to cover themselves
About those who are forbidden from marrying them without consenting to them
Among them is breastfeeding
And God Almighty said
And if you ask them for anything
So ask them from behind a veil
Al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir said
It is appropriate to remove the veil in this era
Maintaining her and her sisters, mothers of the believers
