A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the female Companions from the Ansar.
From the tribe of Banu al-Najjar.
I was among the first to embrace Islam.
I am the maternal aunt of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, through nursing.
My husband is the noble Companion,
'Ubada ibn al-Samit, may Allah be pleased with him.
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, used to visit us frequently.
Once, he entered our house,
where there was no one but me, my sister Umm Sulaym, and her son Anas.
He, peace be upon him, said:
"Stand up, so that I may lead you in prayer."
He led us in prayer at a time other than the prescribed prayer times.
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, visited me one day,
so I fed him and began to groom his hair.
Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, fell asleep.
He then woke up laughing.
I asked, "What makes you laugh, O Messenger of Allah?"
He said, "Some people from my Ummah were shown to me as warriors in the cause of Allah,
sailing across the expanse of this sea,
like kings upon thrones."
I said, "O Messenger of Allah,
pray to Allah that He makes me one of them."
So the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, prayed for me.
Then he laid his head down and slept.
He then woke up laughing.
I asked, "What makes you laugh, O Messenger of Allah?"
He said, "Some people from my Ummah were shown to me as warriors in the cause of Allah,
sailing across the expanse of this sea,
like kings upon thrones."
I said, "O Messenger of Allah,
pray to Allah that He makes me one of them."
He replied, "You are among the first."
So I sailed the sea as a warrior in the cause of Allah,
with my husband, 'Ubada ibn al-Samit, may Allah be pleased with him.
When we reached the island of Cyprus,
I disembarked from the ship.
They brought an animal for me to ride,
but the animal threw me off, and I fell.
My neck broke, and my soul departed.
I was buried where I fell.
This occurred during the governorship of Mu'awiya,
and the caliphate of 'Uthman, may Allah be pleased with them both.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, had said:
"The first army of my Ummah to sail the sea
have made it incumbent upon themselves,"
meaning they have done that which makes it incumbent upon them
to enter Paradise. So, who am I?
