2- The Garden of Guidance
3- Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:
“Say: O My slaves who have been prodigal to their own hurt! Despair not of the mercy of Allah, Who forgiveth all sins. Lo! He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (39:53)
5- And on the authority of Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said:
6- "I was a man sharp of tongue towards my family, so I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I fear that my tongue will lead me into the Fire.'"
7- Thereupon he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Why do you neglect seeking forgiveness?
8- Indeed, I seek the forgiveness of Allah one hundred times a day."
9- "Sharp of tongue" means having a harsh or sharp tongue. A point of benefit:
10- Among the fiqh of seeking forgiveness is gesturing with a single finger.
11- For it is narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) that he said:
12- "Asking consists of raising your hands level with your shoulders or roughly so,
13- seeking forgiveness is to point with a single finger,
12- and supplication in earnest (ibtihal) is to extend both of your hands fully."
