Whims and desires blind, deafen, and lead a person into foolishness.
When desire takes hold of a person, it blinds and deafens them, just as mentioned in the previous verse.
It causes them to fall into contradictions and follies that no rational person would ever commit.
Indeed, desire blinded the insight of the Quraysh, leading them to reject the prophethood of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
They did so on the pretext that he was merely a human, even while they themselves worshipped a god made of stone.
