A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the noble Companions and the leader of my people, the Banu al-Mustaliq.
My daughter is the Mother of the Believers, the wife of the noble Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
I embraced Islam in the fifth year of the Hijra, after the expedition against the Banu al-Mustaliq.
The cause of that expedition was that I was gathering my people and whoever I could from the Arabs to wage war against the Muslims in Medina.
When the Prophet, peace be upon him, learned of this, he prepared his army and marched toward us.
The cavalry of the Muslims raided us, and we fled from them in every direction.
They took the livestock and the children, and they took my daughter, Juwayriya, among the captives.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, chose her for himself and married her.
I then approached the Prophet, peace be upon him, to ransom my daughter.
When I was at al-'Aqiq, I looked at the camels I had brought for the ransom.
I took a liking to two of them, so I hid them in one of the mountain passes of al-'Aqiq.
Then I came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and said, "O Muhammad, a woman like my daughter should not be taken captive."
"I am too noble for that, so let her go, and here is her ransom."
He, peace be upon him, said, "What do you think if we give her the choice? Would that not be better?"
I said, "Indeed, you have fulfilled your duty." So I went to her and said,
"My daughter, this man has given you a choice, so do not disgrace us."
She replied, "I have chosen the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him."
I said, "By Allah, you have disgraced us!"
Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, looked at the ransom and said,
"Where are the two camels you hid in al-'Aqiq in such-and-such a mountain pass?"
I said, "By Allah, no one knew of that except Allah."
"I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that you are the Messenger of Allah."
I embraced Islam at that moment and followed the Prophet, peace be upon him.
Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, invited me to pay the zakat.
I agreed to it and said, "O Messenger of Allah, let me return to my people."
"I will call them to Islam and to the payment of zakat."
"Whoever responds to me, I will collect their zakat." So he gave me permission.
When the time for zakat arrived, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, sent to me
al-Walid ibn 'Uqba, may Allah be pleased with him, to collect the zakat from us.
We, in turn, went out to welcome him.
When al-Walid drew near to us and saw us, he feared for his life.
He thought we were going to kill him due to old blood feuds from the days of ignorance.
He returned to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
and informed him that we had withheld the zakat and intended to kill him.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, prepared an army to fight us,
and ordered them to march toward us.
As for me, I said to the men of my people,
"The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, would not break his promise to us,"
"unless he was angry with us."
"So, let us go to him."
When we neared Medina, we met the army.
I asked them, "To whom were you sent?"
They said, "To you."
I asked, "And why?"
They said, "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,"
"sent al-Walid ibn 'Uqba to you."
"He claimed that you withheld the zakat and intended to kill him."
I said, "No, by the One who sent Muhammad with the truth,"
"I did not see him, nor did he come to me."
When I entered upon the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
he said to me,
"You withheld the zakat and intended to kill my messenger?"
I said, "No, by the One who sent you with the truth,"
"I did not see him, nor did he come to me."
"And I did not come to you,"
"except when your messenger was delayed,"
"so I feared that Allah or His Messenger might be angry with me."
"That is why I came, and I have the zakat of my people with me."
Then Allah the Almighty revealed His saying:
"O you who have believed..."
“O ye who believe! If an evil-liver bring you tidings, verify it, lest ye smite some folk in ignorance and afterward repent of what ye did.” (49:6)

So the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was pleased with us,
and he accepted the zakat from us.
