A new challenge from me
I am one of the noble companions and I am the master of my people bin Al-Mustaliq
My daughter is the Mother of the Believers, the wife of the faithful Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace
She converted to Islam in the fifth year of the Hijra, after the Battle of Ibn Al-Mustaliq
The reason for that raid was that I was preparing my people and the Arabs I could to attack the Muslims in Medina
When the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, learned of this, he prepared his army and marched to us
The Muslim horses attacked us and we fled from them in every direction
So they took some of the cattle and offspring, and they took my daughter Juwayriyah with them as part of the captivity
So the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, chose her for himself and married her
So I went to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, to ransom my daughter
When I was in Al-Aqiq, I looked at the camels that I had brought as ransom
I wanted two of its camels, so I hid them in one of the aqeeq reefs
Then I came to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and said, “O Muhammad, my daughter will not be taken captive like her.”
I am more honorable than that, so let her go, and this is her redemption
He, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said, “What do you think if we choose her, wouldn’t he do well?”
I said, “Yes, and I did what you had to do,” so I went to her and told her
My daughter, this man has made you good, so do not expose us
She said, “I have chosen the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace.”
I said, “By God, you have exposed us.”
Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, looked at the redemption and said
Where are the two camels that I drove away with agate in such-and-such a country?
I said, “By God, no one knows about that except God.”
I bear witness that there is no god but God and that you are the Messenger of God
So I converted to Islam and followed the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace
Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, invited me to give zakat
So I acknowledged it and said, O Messenger of God, return to my people
I invite them to Islam and pay zakat
Whoever responds to me, I collect his zakat, so he gave me permission
When the time for zakat came, a message was sent to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace
Al-Walid bin Uqba, may God be pleased with him, to collect zakat from us
We, in turn, went out to receive him
When Al-Walid approached us and saw us, he feared for himself
He thought that we would kill him because of the feud between us in pre-Islamic times
So he returned to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace
He told him that we withheld zakat and wanted to kill him
The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, prepared an army to fight us
He ordered them to walk towards us
As for me, I said to the men of my people
The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, would not break his promise with us
Except for those who are angry with us
Leave us alone and let us bring him
When we approached the city, we met the army
So I told them, whom did you send to?
They said to you
I said why?
They said that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace
Al-Walid bin Uqba sent you
He claimed that you withheld zakat from him and wanted to kill him
I said no, by the One who sent Muhammad with the truth
I did not see it nor did it come to me
When I entered upon the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace
He told me
I withheld zakat and wanted to kill my messenger
I said no, by the One who sent you with the truth
I did not see it nor did it come to me
And I did not come to you
Except when your messenger was late
I was afraid that God or His Messenger might be angry with me
That's why I came with my people's zakat
So God Almighty revealed his saying
O you who believe!
If a sinner comes to you with news, investigate
You harm a people out of ignorance, and then you become regretful about what you did
The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, imposed it on us
He accepted zakat from us
