A summary of the concepts of Ahl al-Sunnah.
Hypocrisy is of two types.
Hypocrisy is of two types: major hypocrisy and minor hypocrisy.
Major hypocrisy is also called creedal hypocrisy.
This type expels its adherent from the Ummah and will place them in the lowest level of the Fire in the Hereafter, if they die upon it.
Its reality is that a person outwardly professes belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and divine decree,
while inwardly concealing what contradicts all of that, or some of it.
This is the hypocrisy that existed during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
The Qur'an was revealed to warn against it, condemn its adherents, and declare them disbelievers.
“That is because they believed, then disbelieved, therefore their hearts are sealed so that they understand not.” (63:3)
They are more severe in disbelief and enmity than outright disbelievers.
As Allah the Almighty said about them: "They are the enemy, so beware of them."
Among the most important forms of major hypocrisy and the characteristics of its adherents are:
First, enmity towards the believers, as mentioned in the preceding verse, and hatred of their victory over the disbelievers.
Second, hatred of the Messenger, peace be upon him, and what he brought.
And turning away from him, harming him, or criticizing and slandering him.
Third, joy and delight at the defeat of the Muslims and the decline of their religion.
Fourth, mocking the believers because of their faith and their obedience to the Messenger, peace be upon him.
Fifth, slandering Islamic law and describing it as harsh and contradictory to humanity,
and not suitable for our time.
Sixth, siding with the disbelievers and loving their legislation which contradicts Allah's law.
Seventh, loving the victory of the disbelievers over the Muslims.
And how clear these characteristics are in the hypocrites of our time, be they politicians, media figures, secularists, or liberals.
They claim to love their homeland, but in reality, they are enemies of the homeland and its interests,
by their loyalty to its enemies and their enmity towards Allah's law and those who call to it.
And by their spreading of corruption and indecency among the sons of the Ummah,
and by corrupting their religion, their souls, their minds, their wealth, and their honor.
Major hypocrisy occurs if its adherent does not manifest it except in the tone of speech.
However, if they manifest the preceding nullifiers and call to them,
then at that point, they become apostates, and the rulings of an apostate apply to them.
Minor hypocrisy is also called practical hypocrisy.
This is when a person exhibits some of the characteristics and deeds of the hypocrites,
while still possessing the fundamental basis of faith.
The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, warned
about the most dangerous of these characteristics, saying:
"There are three signs of a hypocrite:
when he speaks, he lies;
when he makes a promise, he breaks it;
and when he is entrusted, he betrays."
And the Prophet, peace be upon him, also said:
"Whoever has four characteristics will be a pure hypocrite,
and whoever has one characteristic from them
will have a characteristic of hypocrisy until he abandons it:
when he is entrusted, he betrays;
when he speaks, he lies;
when he makes a covenant, he breaks it;
and when he disputes, he acts immorally."
Agreed upon.
The one who possesses these characteristics is similar in his deeds to the hypocrites,
even if he does not inwardly disbelieve,
because he has combined practical hypocrisy with the basis of faith.
However, if these characteristics become entrenched and complete,
then their possessor may completely detach from Islam,
and become a pure hypocrite.
The summary of the matter is:
that minor hypocrisy all returns to the discrepancy between what is hidden and what is public.
