but that it will perish!"

is that I appoint him as arbiter over me;

for I see a man who would never judge

unjustly or tyrannically."

They said to him, "The choice is yours."

So he met the Prophet (peace be upon him)

and said,

"I have seen a better course

00:14:24.830 --> 00:14:26.830
than engaging in mutual imprecation with you."

00:14:26.830 --> 00:14:28.830
He asked, "And what is that?"

He replied, "Your judgment today until nightfall,

00:14:30.830 --> 00:14:32.830
and your night until morning;

00:14:32.830 --> 00:14:34.830
whatever you decree concerning us,

00:14:34.830 --> 00:14:36.830
it shall be binding and permissible."

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

"Perhaps behind you

00:14:40.830 --> 00:14:42.830
is someone who will criticize or overrule you?"

He said,

"Ask my two companions."

So he asked them both,

and they replied,

"The valley neither issues forth nor decides

except upon the counsel of Sharahbīl."

Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said,

"A disbeliever,

yet granted divine accord (*muwaffaq*)."

So he came to him,

made his camel kneel

at the gate of the mosque, hobbled it,

—And this was characteristic of the Bedouins' roughness.

So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied,

"I am

the son of 'Abd al-Muṭṭalib."

He asked, "Muḥammad?"

"O son of 'Abd al-Muṭṭalib!

I am going to ask you and be stern with you

so take no offense in your heart."

ask whatever seems fit to you."

the God of your family,

the God of those before you,

and the God of those who will come after you:

Has Allah sent you

to us as a messenger?"

He said,

"O Allah, yes!"

He said,

"I adjure you by Allah, your God,

the God of your family,

the God of those before you,

and the God of those who will come after you:

Has Allah commanded you

that we worship Him alone and not associate

anything with Him,

00:17:08.269 --> 00:17:10.269
and that we cast off these idols

00:17:10.269 --> 00:17:12.269
that our forefathers used to worship?"

He (peace be upon him) said,

"O Allah, yes!"

Then he proceeded to mention

the obligatory duties of Islam, one obligation

00:17:20.269 --> 00:17:22.269
after another:

00:17:22.269 --> 00:17:24.269
prayer, zakat, Hajj,

00:17:24.269 --> 00:17:26.269
and fasting,

00:17:26.269 --> 00:17:28.269
asking him about each in this manner.

Then he said,

"I bear witness that there is no god

00:17:32.269 --> 00:17:34.269
except Allah,

00:17:34.269 --> 00:17:36.269
and I bear witness that Muḥammad is His servant

and His Messenger;

00:17:38.269 --> 00:17:40.269
and I shall fulfill these obligations,

abstain from what you have forbidden me,

and add nothing nor diminish anything."

Then he turned away toward his camel.

the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

"If the man with the two braids speaks the truth,

he will enter Paradise."

In another narration,

"By Allah, I will not add anything to these,

nor will I subtract anything from them."

Thereupon, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"By Allah, he will succeed if he is truthful."

returned to his people,

The very first thing he uttered was:

"Wretched are al-Lat and al-'Uzza!"

They exclaimed,

"Hold your tongue, O Dhimam!

Beware of vitiligo, madness, and leprosy!"

He replied,

"Woe to you! Indeed, they

can neither harm nor benefit anyone!

Allah has truly sent a Messenger

and revealed a Book to him,

delivering you through it

00:18:34.339 --> 00:18:36.339
from the state you were in.

I bear witness that there is no god but Allah,

and that Muhammad

00:18:40.339 --> 00:18:42.339
is His servant and His Messenger.

I have come to you from him

00:18:44.339 --> 00:18:46.339
with what he has commanded you to do

and what he has forbidden you from."

By Allah, before the evening of that very day arrived,

not a single man

or woman in his settlement remained except that they had embraced Islam.

This is among the blessings

that some individuals bring to their people:

they embrace Islam through the virtue of

their preaching to them,

or their people's love for them,

or their sincere counsel to them,

or other such reasons.

When the Prophet (peace be upon him) departed

from al-Ji'ranah,

he dispatched several expeditions.

He prepared an expedition

and placed Qays ibn Sa'd

ibn 'Ubadah in command of it,

binding a white banner for him,

handing him a black flag,

and assembling under his command

four hundred of the Muslims.

The Prophet

to march into an area of Yemen

inhabited by Suda',

a clan of Kahlan

from Qahtan.

Then a man from them

came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him),

named Ziyad

ibn al-Harith,

who had learned that the army was going to raid his people.

He said to the Messenger of Allah

(peace be upon him):

"O Messenger of Allah,

00:20:06.400 --> 00:20:08.430
I have come to you as an envoy

representing those I left behind.

So call back the army,

and I guarantee you my people."

Thus the Messenger (peace be upon him) recalled

Qays ibn Sa'd,

and the man of Suda' returned to his people.

Afterwards, there came to the Messenger of Allah

(peace be upon him)

fifteen men from them.

00:20:26.430 --> 00:20:28.430
Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah said,

"O Messenger of Allah,

let them stay with me."

00:20:32.430 --> 00:20:34.430
So they stayed with him,

00:20:34.430 --> 00:20:36.430
and he welcomed them, honored them,

00:20:36.430 --> 00:20:38.430
and provided them with clothes.

00:20:38.430 --> 00:20:40.430
He then brought them to the Messenger of Allah

00:20:40.430 --> 00:20:42.430
(peace be upon him),

00:20:42.430 --> 00:20:44.430
and they pledged allegiance to him upon Islam.

They said,

"We guarantee for you those who are behind us

among our people."

They then returned to their people,

and Islam spread among them,

so much so that there joined the Messenger (peace be upon him)

from them

one hundred men during the Farewell Pilgrimage.

that arrived to meet the Messenger
