Stop. Get to know the Companions, the scholars, and the noble figures. A new challenge: Who am I? I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. I am from the people of Ta'if. I was a slave to al-Harith Ibn Kalada of the Thaqif tribe. I was known as the freedman of the Prophet, peace be upon him. When the Muslims besieged Ta'if, following the Battle of Hunayn, I was with the Thaqif inside the fortress. After the siege had lasted for a long time, the Prophet, peace be upon him, ordered a herald to call out, "Any slave who descends from the fortress and comes out to us, he is free." Twenty-three men came out to them from inside the fortress, and I was among those who emerged. I had climbed over the great fortress of Ta'if, and lowered myself down using a round pulley that the people used to draw water. I came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and embraced Islam at his hands. I informed him that I was a slave, so he set me free. He gave me a kunya (patronymic) derived from the tool I had used to escape the fortress, and this kunya became more well-known than my actual name. Then the Thaqif asked the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, to return me to them as a slave, but he said, "No, he is a freedman of Allah and His Messenger." I lived among the Muslims as a free man, a worshiper, a scholar, and a mujahid. When death approached me, my children offered to bring me a physician, but I refused. When death descended upon me, I said to them, "Where is your physician to return my soul if he is truthful?" So, who am I? Share your answers with us in the comments below the video. The best of generations in their stances and examples, following the Messenger in all he strove for or said. They were here, watering the clouds of our lives, and though they passed, their memory remains exalted among us. They departed, leaving a question in the conscience: Is there any star like them that has risen and shone? They filled life with glories through their deeds, and the world of humanity flourished with their guidance.
