A hadith and commentary.
The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
"Every child is born in a state of fitra (natural disposition)."
The commentary:
Ibn Rajab said:
"Every child is born in a state of fitra,"
which refers to the soundness of the heart,
and the receptivity to the truth, which is Islam.
However, the child is in dire need of that which perfects their intellectual and practical faculties,
namely, beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds.
Through this, one becomes a Muslim in actuality,
after having been a Muslim in potentiality.
