The story of Maryam, daughter of ‘Imran, peace be upon her. 00:00:12.859 --> 00:00:20.239 The stance of the Jews and the Christians regarding Maryam. 00:00:20.239 --> 00:00:27.170 The Jews and the Christians fell into two extreme, misguided positions regarding Maryam, peace be upon her. 00:00:27.170 --> 00:00:36.609 As for the Jews, they approached Maryam and her son according to their characteristic path of knowing the truth yet turning away from it. 00:00:36.609 --> 00:00:41.229 This is the same path they took in killing the prophets and accusing them of grave matters. 00:00:41.229 --> 00:00:46.130 This group of Jews, during the time of ‘Isa, peace be upon him, 00:00:46.130 --> 00:00:51.229 witnessed the great signs indicating the purity and chastity of Maryam, 00:00:51.229 --> 00:00:56.329 as well as the signs indicating the prophethood of ‘Isa ibn Maryam, peace be upon him. 00:00:56.329 --> 00:00:59.030 Yet, they did not believe in them. 00:00:59.030 --> 00:01:01.229 Instead, they accused Maryam of adultery. 00:01:01.229 --> 00:01:05.650 And they said of ‘Isa ibn Maryam that he was a child of adultery. 00:01:05.650 --> 00:01:09.849 That is why Allah described their stance in His Book. 00:01:37.040 --> 00:01:43.040 “And because of their disbelief and of their speaking against Mary a tremendous calumny;” (4:156) 00:01:43.040 --> 00:01:47.180 Ibn ‘Atiyyah al-Andalusi, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 00:01:47.180 --> 00:01:50.280 Meaning their accusation of her regarding adultery. 00:01:50.280 --> 00:01:54.480 This was despite their witnessing the miracle of ‘Isa speaking from the cradle. 00:01:54.480 --> 00:01:56.680 For had it not been for that miracle, 00:01:56.680 --> 00:02:03.280 they would have been applying the standard human judgment regarding a pregnancy without a father. 00:02:03.709 --> 00:02:09.409 If the Jews dared to kill their prophets and slander their honor, 00:02:09.409 --> 00:02:15.310 it is no surprise that they would slander the chaste and pure Maryam, peace be upon her. 00:02:15.310 --> 00:02:20.240 This is their established way of dealing with the allies of Allah. 00:02:20.240 --> 00:02:22.259 Allah the Almighty says: 00:02:22.259 --> 00:02:30.159 “And verily We gave unto Moses the Scripture and We caused a train of messengers to follow after him, and We gave unto Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs (of Allah's sovereignty), and We supported him with the Holy spirit.
