A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
Steadfastness (istiqamah).
Allah has commanded steadfastness in His Noble Book.
He said:
“So tread thou the straight path as thou art commanded, and those who turn (unto Allah) with thee, and transgress not. Lo! He is Seer of what ye do.” (11:112)
"Indeed, He is All-Seeing of what you do."
And the Almighty also said:
"So take a straight course to Him and seek His forgiveness."
The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, also commanded it, saying:
"Say, 'I believe in Allah,' and then remain steadfast."
Narrated by Muslim.
Steadfastness is moderation and moving forward upon the path.
Without deviation or crookedness.
This is why the path to Allah, for which the believers seek guidance, is described
as the Straight Path.
Moderation and the absence of deviation mean adhering to justice between the two extremes of excess and negligence.
Thus, steadfastness means maintaining a middle ground between these two extremes.
It is synonymous with the concept of the middle way (wasatiyyah).
It is a comprehensive term that encompasses the entirety of the religion.
It applies to belief, worship, law, and ethics.
