Ibrahim (Abraham), the intimate friend of Allah, peace be upon him. 00:00:53.070 --> 00:00:56.070 There, he was given the glad tidings of Ishaq (Isaac), peace be upon him; 00:00:56.070 --> 00:01:00.070 and to Ishaq was born Ya'qub, peace be upon him; 00:01:00.070 --> 00:01:04.069 and to Ya'qub was born Yusuf (Joseph), peace be upon him— 00:01:04.069 --> 00:01:08.099 a blessed lineage, one following the other. 00:01:08.099 --> 00:01:12.489 The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 00:01:12.489 --> 00:01:16.519 "The noble son of the noble, son of the noble, son of the noble: 00:01:16.519 --> 00:01:21.519 Yusuf, son of Ya'qub, son of Ishaq, son of Ibrahim," 00:01:21.519 --> 00:01:23.519 peace be upon them all. 00:01:23.519 --> 00:01:28.640 Ya'qub, peace be upon him, grew up in the household of prophethood, 00:01:28.640 --> 00:01:31.640 drinking deeply from the springs of divine revelation and wisdom, 00:01:32.640 --> 00:01:36.640 which prepared him to follow the path of his father and grandfather. 00:01:36.640 --> 00:01:41.640 For Ya'qub, peace be upon him, was indeed one of the prophets. 00:01:41.640 --> 00:01:45.640 All the historical traditions recounted about the prophet Ya'qub 00:01:45.640 --> 00:01:51.640 clearly indicate that he was steadfast upon the religion of his father Ibrahim, peace be upon him. 00:01:51.640 --> 00:01:54.640 As the Noble Qur'an informs us, 00:01:54.640 --> 00:01:59.640 Ya'qub was a man of beneficial knowledge, righteous deeds, 00:01:59.640 --> 00:02:03.640 strength in worship, profound insight, 00:02:03.640 --> 00:02:07.640 and patient endurance through the decrees of Allah Almighty. 00:02:07.640 --> 00:02:11.740 Allah Almighty named him in the Qur'an 'Isra'il', 00:02:11.740 --> 00:02:14.740 which means 'the servant of Allah'. 00:02:14.740 --> 00:02:22.819 During his youth, a dispute arose between Ya'qub and his older brother, 'Iys (Esau). 00:02:22.819 --> 00:02:27.819 So Ya'qub's mother instructed him to travel to her brother, Laban, 00:02:27.819 --> 00:02:31.819 in the town of Haran in northern Levant, 00:02:31.819 --> 00:02:34.819 and to stay with him for a period of time. 00:02:34.819 --> 00:02:38.819 Ya'qub complied with his mother's instruction and went to his maternal uncle, 00:02:38.819 --> 00:02:41.819 residing with him for a long period, 00:02:41.819 --> 00:02:44.819 during which he tended his uncle's sheep. 00:02:44.819 --> 00:02:46.889 His uncle had two daughters: 00:02:46.889 --> 00:02:49.889 the elder was named Leah, 00:02:49.889 --> 00:02:52.889 and the younger was named Rachel. 00:02:52.889 --> 00:02:56.889 Rachel was the fairer and more beautiful of the two. 00:02:56.889 --> 00:03:00.889 So Ya'qub asked his uncle for the hand of the younger daughter, Rachel, in marriage. 00:03:00.889 --> 00:03:03.889 The uncle agreed, 00:03:03.889 --> 00:03:06.889 on the condition that Ya'qub tend his flock for seven years. 00:03:06.889 --> 00:03:09.949 Ya'qub accepted this condition. 00:03:09.949 --> 00:03:15.080 When the designated period had elapsed, he requested the marriage from his uncle, 00:03:15.080 --> 00:03:18.080 who agreed and promptly concluded the marriage. 00:03:18.080 --> 00:03:22.080 He prepared a wedding feast and invited the people. 00:03:22.080 --> 00:03:25.270 But when Ya'qub entered upon his bride, 00:03:25.270 --> 00:03:28.270 he discovered that she was not Rachel, whom he had requested, 00:03:28.270 --> 00:03:31.270 but rather her elder sister, Leah. 00:03:31.270 --> 00:03:34.340 He said to his uncle: 00:03:34.340 --> 00:03:37.340 "This is not whom I sought! 00:03:37.340 --> 00:03:40.400 I only proposed to Rachel." 00:03:40.400 --> 00:03:43.400 His uncle replied: "It is not our custom 00:03:43.400 --> 00:03:46.400 to marry off the younger daughter before the elder. 00:03:46.400 --> 00:03:49.400 If you desire her sister as well, 00:03:49.400 --> 00:03:52.400 then work for another seven years, 00:03:52.400 --> 00:03:54.460 and I shall give her sister to you in marriage." 00:03:55.460 --> 00:03:58.460 So he worked for another seven years, 00:03:58.460 --> 00:04:01.460 and then married Rachel, 00:04:01.460 --> 00:04:04.460 taking her as a co-wife alongside her sister. 00:04:04.460 --> 00:04:07.460 This was permissible according to their religious law, 00:04:07.460 --> 00:04:10.460 though it was later abrogated in the law of the Torah. 00:04:10.460 --> 00:04:14.550 Ya'qub was blessed through his first wife 00:04:14.550 --> 00:04:17.550 with a number of sons, 00:04:17.550 --> 00:04:20.620 while Rachel had not borne him any children. 00:04:20.620 --> 00:04:23.620 Then Rachel supplicated Allah Almighty, 00:04:23.620 --> 00:04:26.620 asking Him to grant her a son through Ya'qub. 00:04:26.620 --> 00:04:29.620 Allah heard her plea 00:04:29.620 --> 00:04:32.620 and answered her supplication. 00:04:32.620 --> 00:04:35.620 She conceived through the Prophet of Allah, Ya'qub, 00:04:35.620 --> 00:04:38.620 and gave birth to a noble, 00:04:38.620 --> 00:04:41.620 goodly, and handsome boy, 00:04:41.620 --> 00:04:44.620 whom she named Yusuf. 00:04:44.620 --> 00:04:47.620 After him, she gave birth to his full brother, Binyamin (Benjamin). 00:04:47.620 --> 00:04:50.620 All of this took place while they were residing in the land of Haran. 00:04:50.620 --> 00:04:53.899 Ya'qub, peace be upon him, stayed on 00:04:53.899 --> 00:04:56.899 for another six years, 00:04:56.899 --> 00:04:59.899 bringing the total duration of his stay to twenty years. 00:04:59.899 --> 00:05:02.899 Allah blessed him with abundant goodness, 00:05:02.899 --> 00:05:06.000 until his wealth and offspring multiplied greatly. 00:05:06.000 --> 00:05:09.000 Then Allah Almighty revealed to Ya'qub, peace be upon him, 00:05:09.000 --> 00:05:12.000 to return to the land of his father and his people. 00:05:12.000 --> 00:05:15.000 He proposed this to his family, 00:05:15.000 --> 00:05:18.060 and they readily and obediently agreed. 00:05:18.060 --> 00:05:21.060 He packed his belongings, gathered his wealth and family, 00:05:21.060 --> 00:05:25.180 and set out returning to his homeland in Palestine. 00:05:25.180 --> 00:05:28.180 Ya'qub then passed by Jerusalem, 00:05:28.180 --> 00:05:31.180 encamping just outside the town, 00:05:31.180 --> 00:05:34.180 and purchased a tract of land there for one hundred ewes. 00:05:34.180 --> 00:05:37.180 He pitched his tent there, 00:05:37.180 --> 00:05:40.180 and Allah Almighty commanded him to build a house of worship in that place— 00:05:40.180 --> 00:05:43.180 which is Bayt al-Maqdis (the Holy House) today, 00:05:43.180 --> 00:05:46.180 later renovated by the Prophet of Allah, Sulayman (Solomon), peace be upon him. 00:05:47.180 --> 00:05:50.279 Thus, Ya'qub, peace be upon him, 00:05:50.279 --> 00:05:53.279 was the first to build Bayt al-Maqdis, 00:05:53.279 --> 00:05:56.279 just as his grandfather Ibrahim and his uncle 00:05:56.279 --> 00:05:59.279 Isma'il (Ishmael), peace be upon them both, 00:05:59.279 --> 00:06:02.540 were the ones who built the Sacred House of Allah in Makkah. 00:06:02.540 --> 00:06:05.540 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked 00:06:05.540 --> 00:06:08.540 about the first mosque established on earth. 00:06:08.540 --> 00:06:11.569 He replied: "The Sacred Mosque (al-Masjid al-Haram)." 00:06:11.569 --> 00:06:14.569 He was asked: "Then which one?" 00:06:14.569 --> 00:06:17.629 He replied: "The Furthest Mosque (al-Masjid al-Aqsa)." 00:06:17.629 --> 00:06:20.730 He was asked: "How much time was there between them?" 00:06:20.730 --> 00:06:23.730 He replied: "Forty years." 00:06:23.730 --> 00:06:27.879 Ya'qub returned to his father, 00:06:27.879 --> 00:06:30.879 Ishaq, peace be upon him, 00:06:30.879 --> 00:06:33.879 who rejoiced over him with immense joy. 00:06:33.879 --> 00:06:36.879 Shortly thereafter, Ishaq passed away. 00:06:36.879 --> 00:06:39.910 Ya'qub then resided in Palestine 00:06:39.910 --> 00:06:42.910 for many years, 00:06:42.910 --> 00:06:45.910 the most significant events of which we shall recount 00:06:45.910 --> 00:06:48.910 in the story of his son Yusuf, peace be upon him, 00:06:48.910 --> 00:06:51.910 if Allah wills. 00:06:51.910 --> 00:06:55.420 All types of food 00:06:55.420 --> 00:06:58.420 were lawful for the Children of Israel— 00:06:58.420 --> 00:07:01.420 who are the descendants of Ya'qub, peace be upon him— 00:07:01.420 --> 00:07:04.420 except what Ya'qub made unlawful for himself, 00:07:04.420 --> 00:07:07.420 without any prohibition from Allah Almighty. 00:07:07.420 --> 00:07:10.420 For he, peace be upon him, 00:07:10.420 --> 00:07:13.420 had been afflicted with sciatica, 00:07:13.420 --> 00:07:16.420 so he vowed that if Allah Almighty cured him of it, 00:07:16.420 --> 00:07:19.420 he would surely forbid himself the foods dearest to him. 00:07:19.420 --> 00:07:22.420 The dearest things to him 00:07:22.420 --> 00:07:25.420 were camel meat and camel milk, 00:07:25.420 --> 00:07:28.420 so he forbade them to himself, 00:07:28.420 --> 00:07:31.579 and his sons followed him in doing so. 00:07:31.579 --> 00:07:34.740 Allah Almighty said: 00:07:34.740 --> 00:07:37.740 “All food was lawful unto the Children of Israel, save that which Israel forbade himself, (in days) before the Torah was revealed. Say: Produce the Torah and read it (unto us) if ye are truthful.” (3:93) 00:07:55.740 --> 00:07:58.740 if you should be truthful." 00:07:58.740 --> 00:08:01.740 "And whoever invents 00:08:01.740 --> 00:08:04.740 “And whoever shall invent a falsehood after that concerning Allah, such will be wrong-doers.” (3:94) 00:08:04.740 --> 00:08:07.740 [lies] after that, then it is those who are the wrongdoers." 00:08:11.029 --> 00:08:14.029 The Noble Qur'an has recounted to us 00:08:14.029 --> 00:08:17.029 that Yusuf, peace be upon him, summoned his father Ya'qub 00:08:17.029 --> 00:08:20.029 and his brothers to come to Egypt. 00:08:20.029 --> 00:08:23.029 They answered his call, left Palestine, 00:08:23.029 --> 00:08:26.930 and arrived in Egypt. 00:08:26.930 --> 00:08:29.930 Ya'qub, peace be upon him, was deeply dedicated to calling his people to the truth, 00:08:29.930 --> 00:08:32.929 and even more protective and concerned for his children. 00:08:32.929 --> 00:08:35.990 He would constantly exhort them to hold fast to Islam, 00:08:35.990 --> 00:08:38.990 never to deviate from it, 00:08:38.990 --> 00:08:41.990 and warn them against dying upon any faith other than this religion. 00:08:41.990 --> 00:08:45.120 Then, when death approached him 00:08:45.120 --> 00:08:48.120 and he was in the throes of dying and passing away— 00:08:48.120 --> 00:08:51.120 in that critical and solemn state 00:08:51.120 --> 00:08:54.120 when a person leaves this world behind 00:08:54.120 --> 00:08:57.120 and faces the Hereafter— 00:08:57.120 --> 00:09:00.120 Ya'qub, peace be upon him, did not forget the mission of calling to Allah. 00:09:00.120 --> 00:09:03.120 He gathered his sons around him 00:09:03.120 --> 00:09:06.120 to impart to them his final bequest. 00:09:06.120 --> 00:09:09.120 He asked them: "What will you worship after me?" 00:09:09.120 --> 00:09:12.120 They said: "We will worship your God 00:09:12.120 --> 00:09:15.120 and the God of your fathers, Ibrahim, 00:09:15.120 --> 00:09:18.120 Isma'il, and Ishaq— 00:09:18.120 --> 00:09:21.120 one God, 00:09:21.120 --> 00:09:24.539 and to Him we submit." 00:09:24.539 --> 00:09:27.539 Allah Almighty said: 00:09:27.539 --> 00:09:30.539 "And Ibrahim instructed his sons and [so did] Ya'qub, 00:09:30.539 --> 00:09:33.539 “The same did Abraham enjoin upon his sons, and also Jacob, (saying): O my sons! Lo! Allah hath chosen for you the (true) religion; therefore die not save as men who have surrendered (unto Him).” (2:132) 00:09:33.539 --> 00:09:36.539 'Indeed, Allah has chosen for you this religion, 00:09:36.539 --> 00:09:39.539 “The same did Abraham enjoin upon his sons, and also Jacob, (saying): O my sons! Lo! They said: We shall worship thy god, the god of thy fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac, One Allah, and unto Him we have surrendered.” (2:133) 00:10:00.539 --> 00:10:03.539 They said, 'We will worship 00:10:03.539 --> 00:10:06.539 your God and the God of your fathers, 00:10:06.539 --> 00:10:09.539 Ibrahim and Isma'il 00:10:09.539 --> 00:10:12.539 and Ishaq—one God. 00:10:12.539 --> 00:10:15.539 one God, 00:10:15.539 --> 00:10:18.539 and to Him we submit.'" 00:10:18.539 --> 00:10:21.539 Biographers and historians have recorded 00:10:21.539 --> 00:10:25.529 that Ya'qub, peace be upon him, 00:10:25.529 --> 00:10:28.529 when he entered Egypt, 00:10:28.529 --> 00:10:31.529 was 130 years old. 00:10:31.529 --> 00:10:34.529 He remained in Egypt for 17 years, 00:10:34.529 --> 00:10:37.529 and then returned to his Lord 00:10:37.529 --> 00:10:40.590 at the age of 147 years. 00:10:40.590 --> 00:10:43.590 Yusuf, peace be upon him, then asked permission 00:10:43.590 --> 00:10:46.590 from the King of Egypt to travel with his father Ya'qub's body 00:10:46.590 --> 00:10:49.590 so that he might bury him alongside his family in Palestine. 00:10:49.590 --> 00:10:52.590 The king granted him permission, 00:10:52.590 --> 00:10:55.590 and Ya'qub, peace be upon him, was buried 00:10:55.590 --> 00:10:58.590 in the town of Hebron, known 00:10:58.590 --> 00:11:01.590 as al-Khalil today, 00:11:01.590 --> 00:11:08.110 beside his grandfather Ibrahim and his father Ishaq, 00:11:08.110 --> 00:11:11.110 peace be upon them both. 00:11:11.110 --> 00:11:16.029 The story of Yusuf, peace be upon him: 00:11:16.029 --> 00:11:19.029 As for the best of stories, 00:11:19.029 --> 00:11:22.029 it is the story of Yusuf, son of Ya'qub, peace be upon them both, 00:11:22.029 --> 00:11:25.379 rich with unique lessons and wisdom. 00:11:25.379 --> 00:11:28.379 In the blessed land of Palestine, 00:11:28.379 --> 00:11:31.379 Yusuf, peace be upon him, grew up, 00:11:31.379 --> 00:11:34.379 living among his parents and his eleven brothers. 00:11:34.379 --> 00:11:37.379 He was endowed with such beauty and noble character 00:11:37.379 --> 00:11:40.379 that it earned him special favor 00:11:40.379 --> 00:11:43.379 in his father's heart above the rest of his brothers. 00:11:43.379 --> 00:11:46.379 Consequently, the fire of jealousy was ignited within them, 00:11:46.379 --> 00:11:49.610 and filled their hearts with resentment toward him. 00:11:50.610 --> 00:11:53.610 Yusuf, peace be upon him, saw 00:11:53.610 --> 00:11:56.610 a wondrous vision in his sleep, 00:11:56.610 --> 00:11:59.610 so he related it to his father, saying, 00:11:59.610 --> 00:12:02.610 "Yusuf said to his father: 'O my dear father, 00:12:02.610 --> 00:12:05.610 “When Joseph said unto his father: O my father! Lo! I saw in a dream eleven planets and the sun and the moon, I saw them prostrating themselves unto me.” (12:4) 00:12:05.610 --> 00:12:08.610 [eleven] stars, 00:12:08.610 --> 00:12:11.610 “When Joseph said unto his father: O my father! Lo! I saw in a dream eleven planets and the sun and the moon, I saw them prostrating themselves unto me.” (12:4) 00:12:11.610 --> 00:12:14.610 and the sun and the moon—I saw them 00:12:14.610 --> 00:12:18.059 prostrating to me.'" 00:12:18.059 --> 00:12:21.059 Ya'qub, peace be upon him, realized, 00:12:21.059 --> 00:12:24.059 through the knowledge Allah had granted him, 00:12:24.059 --> 00:12:27.090 that this vision was true, 00:12:27.090 --> 00:12:30.090 and that his son Yusuf 00:12:30.090 --> 00:12:33.149 would be one of the prophets. 00:12:33.149 --> 00:12:36.149 Thus, he feared for him from his brothers, 00:12:36.149 --> 00:12:39.149 anticipating evil from them, 00:12:39.149 --> 00:12:42.309 so he said to him, 00:12:42.309 --> 00:12:45.309 “He said: O my dear son! Tell not thy brethren of thy vision, lest they plot a plot against thee. Lo! Satan is for man an open foe.” (12:5) 00:12:45.309 --> 00:12:48.309 “He said: O my dear son! Tell not thy brethren of thy vision, lest they plot a plot against thee. Lo! And they accused their father, 00:13:20.690 --> 00:13:23.690 the noble Prophet, saying— 00:13:23.690 --> 00:13:26.690 Yet the truth is 00:13:26.690 --> 00:13:29.690 that Ya'qub's love for Yusuf 00:13:29.690 --> 00:13:32.690 was an innate, natural affection beyond his control; 00:13:32.690 --> 00:13:35.690 it was not willful, nor was he to blame for it, 00:13:35.690 --> 00:13:38.690 as he, peace be upon him, 00:13:38.690 --> 00:13:41.690 was completely just in how he treated all his sons. 00:13:41.690 --> 00:13:44.690 His love for Yusuf was 00:13:44.690 --> 00:13:47.690 as the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: 00:13:47.690 --> 00:13:50.690 "O Allah, this is my division in what I control..." 00:13:50.690 --> 00:13:53.720 And this is what we affirm with certainty regarding the Prophet of Allah, 00:13:53.720 --> 00:13:56.720 Ya'qub, peace be upon him. 00:13:56.720 --> 00:14:01.029 The brothers of Yusuf consulted among themselves 00:14:01.029 --> 00:14:04.029 on how to remove Yusuf from his father's presence, 00:14:04.029 --> 00:14:07.029 so that they alone might monopolize his love to his exclusion. 00:14:07.029 --> 00:14:10.100 Some of them said, 00:14:10.100 --> 00:14:13.100 "Kill Yusuf," 00:14:13.100 --> 00:14:16.100 while others said, 00:14:16.100 --> 00:14:19.100 "Cast him out into a distant land, far from you, 00:14:20.100 --> 00:14:23.220 for if you do that, 00:14:23.220 --> 00:14:26.220 your father's attention will be solely yours, 00:14:26.220 --> 00:14:29.220 and Yusuf will be forgotten; 00:14:29.220 --> 00:14:32.220 then after that, you can repent of this sin 00:14:32.220 --> 00:14:35.450 and become righteous people." 00:14:35.450 --> 00:14:38.450 Then one of them spoke—who was the most dutiful of them 00:14:38.450 --> 00:14:41.450 and the most compassionate toward Yusuf, 00:14:41.450 --> 00:14:44.480 even though he ultimately took part with them in the crime— 00:14:44.480 --> 00:14:47.480 saying: "Do not kill Yusuf, 00:14:47.480 --> 00:14:50.480 but rather throw him into the depths of the pit— 00:14:50.480 --> 00:14:53.480 that is, into the dark bottom of the well— 00:14:53.480 --> 00:14:56.480 so that some passing travelers may pick him up 00:14:56.480 --> 00:14:59.480 and take him away with them far from you. 00:14:59.480 --> 00:15:02.480 That way, you will have achieved your goal 00:15:02.480 --> 00:15:05.580 without killing your brother." 00:15:05.580 --> 00:15:08.669 They approved of this idea and resolved upon it. 00:15:08.669 --> 00:15:11.929 The following day, they came to their father 00:15:11.929 --> 00:15:14.929 and said, 00:15:14.929 --> 00:15:17.929 "Why do you not trust us with Yusuf, 00:15:17.929 --> 00:15:20.929 why do you not trust us, 00:15:20.929 --> 00:15:23.929 “They said: O our father! Why wilt thou not trust us with Joseph, when lo! we are good friends to him?” (12:11) 00:15:23.929 --> 00:15:26.929 when we are sincere well-wishers to him? 00:15:26.929 --> 00:15:29.929 Send him with us tomorrow 00:15:29.929 --> 00:15:32.929 to enjoy himself and play, and we 00:15:32.929 --> 00:15:36.279 shall surely guard him." 00:15:36.279 --> 00:15:39.279 Ya'qub, peace be upon him, answered them, 00:15:39.279 --> 00:15:42.279 saying, "Indeed, 00:15:42.279 --> 00:15:45.279 it grieves me that you should take him away, 00:15:45.279 --> 00:15:48.279 and I fear that a wolf will devour him 00:15:48.279 --> 00:15:51.279 “He said: Lo! in truth it saddens me that ye should take him with you, and I fear less the wolf devour him while ye are heedless of him.” (12:13) 00:15:51.279 --> 00:15:54.279 while you are negligent of him." 00:15:54.279 --> 00:15:57.700 Perhaps this remark from their father, 00:15:57.700 --> 00:16:00.700 and his deep attachment to Yusuf, 00:16:00.700 --> 00:16:03.700 only increased their rage against him even more than before, 00:16:03.700 --> 00:16:06.700 and gave them the idea of the wolf devouring 00:16:06.700 --> 00:16:09.700 their brother Yusuf. 00:16:10.700 --> 00:16:13.700 So they said, 00:16:13.700 --> 00:16:16.700 "If a wolf were to devour him while we are a strong band of men, 00:16:16.700 --> 00:16:19.700 we would indeed be losers." 00:16:19.700 --> 00:16:22.700 They kept persisting with their father, trying 00:16:22.700 --> 00:16:25.700 to persuade him, until he permitted them to take Yusuf with them. 00:16:25.700 --> 00:16:28.700 They displayed joy before their father, 00:16:28.700 --> 00:16:31.700 while concealing malice in their hearts. 00:16:31.700 --> 00:16:35.659 When they took their brother Yusuf away, 00:16:35.659 --> 00:16:38.659 far outside the settlements, 00:16:39.659 --> 00:16:42.720 they began beating him mercilessly. 00:16:42.720 --> 00:16:45.720 They were moved neither by his desperate pleas 00:16:45.720 --> 00:16:48.720 nor by the weeping and tears of their brother, 00:16:48.720 --> 00:16:51.720 who was only six years old. 00:16:51.720 --> 00:16:55.009 When they reached a well 00:16:55.009 --> 00:16:58.009 that lay along the caravan route, 00:16:58.009 --> 00:17:01.009 they stripped off his shirt, 00:17:01.009 --> 00:17:04.009 while he was crying and pleading with them, 00:17:04.009 --> 00:17:07.069 and threw him into that deep well. 00:17:08.069 --> 00:17:11.329 Then Allah inspired Yusuf 00:17:11.329 --> 00:17:14.329 that He would deliver him from this trial, 00:17:14.329 --> 00:17:17.329 and that his life would be prolonged 00:17:17.329 --> 00:17:20.329 until he would meet his brothers once again 00:17:20.329 --> 00:17:23.329 and inform them of what they had done to him, 00:17:23.329 --> 00:17:26.329 while they perceive it not, 00:17:26.329 --> 00:17:29.329 just as Allah Almighty stated. 00:17:37.329 --> 00:17:40.329 As for Yusuf's brothers, 00:17:40.329 --> 00:17:43.329 they took a ram along the way, 00:17:43.329 --> 00:17:46.650 slaughtered it, and stained Yusuf's shirt with its blood. 00:17:46.650 --> 00:17:49.650 Then they came to their father in the evening, 00:17:49.650 --> 00:17:52.650 weeping falsely and deceitfully, 00:17:52.650 --> 00:17:55.650 and said to him, 00:17:55.650 --> 00:17:58.650 "We went racing with one another 00:17:58.650 --> 00:18:01.650 and left our brother Yusuf with our belongings, 00:18:01.650 --> 00:18:04.650 and they made up a lie about Yusuf: 00:18:04.650 --> 00:18:07.650 'and we left our brother Yusuf with our belongings, 00:18:07.650 --> 00:18:10.809 so the wolf came and devoured him. 00:18:10.809 --> 00:18:13.809 And here is his shirt, stained with his blood, 00:18:13.809 --> 00:18:17.000 just as you see.'" 00:18:17.000 --> 00:18:20.000 They did not even give their father a chance to reply, 00:18:20.000 --> 00:18:23.000 and said to him— 00:18:23.000 --> 00:18:26.099 “Saying: O our father! We went racing one with another, and left Joseph by our things, and the wolf devoured him, and thou believest not our saying even when we speak the truth.” (12:17) 00:18:26.099 --> 00:18:29.160 Glory be to Allah! 00:18:29.160 --> 00:18:32.160 The guilty party almost exposed himself. 00:18:32.160 --> 00:18:35.160 When Ya'qub, peace be upon him, saw 00:18:35.160 --> 00:18:38.160 the shirt of his son Yusuf, 00:18:38.160 --> 00:18:41.799 he said, 00:18:41.799 --> 00:18:44.799 "How merciful this wolf was! 00:18:44.799 --> 00:18:47.799 It devoured Yusuf without even tearing his shirt!" 00:18:47.799 --> 00:18:50.799 Then he turned to his sons and said, 00:18:50.799 --> 00:18:53.859 he said, 00:18:53.859 --> 00:18:56.930 "Nay, but your souls 00:18:56.930 --> 00:18:59.930 have enticed you to something. 00:18:59.930 --> 00:19:02.930 So patience is most fitting, 00:19:02.930 --> 00:19:05.930 and Allah is the One sought for help 00:19:05.930 --> 00:19:08.930 against what you describe." 00:19:08.930 --> 00:19:11.930 Yes, 00:19:11.930 --> 00:19:15.539 "so patience is most fitting"— 00:19:15.539 --> 00:19:18.539 it is a tranquil, reassuring patience, 00:19:18.539 --> 00:19:21.539 unaccompanied by discontent or anxiety, 00:19:21.539 --> 00:19:24.539 nor by any doubt in the truth of the promise; 00:19:24.539 --> 00:19:27.539 the patience of one confident of the final outcome, 00:19:27.539 --> 00:19:30.539 content with the decree of Allah. 00:19:30.539 --> 00:19:35.420 To be continued, if Allah wills. 00:19:35.420 --> 00:19:38.420 And Allah knows best. 00:19:38.420 --> 00:19:41.420 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 00:19:41.420 --> 00:19:44.420 And may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad 00:19:44.420 --> 00:19:47.420 and upon all his family and Companions. 00:19:47.420 --> 00:19:51.930 You were listening to the Stories of the Prophets. 00:19:51.930 --> 00:20:00.690 And may Allah send blessings, 00:20:00.690 --> 00:20:05.000 and may Allah send blessings 00:20:05.000 --> 00:20:14.079 and peace.
