Pause and discover the story of the Companions, scholars, and prominent figures. A new "Who Am I?" challenge. I am from the tribe of 'Abd al-Qays, among the people of Bahrain. I arrived with my people in the eighth year of the Hijrah. I had a scar on my forehead by which I was known. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) praised me for certain traits with which Allah had naturally endowed me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wrote to us, the people of Bahrain, requesting that twenty men from among us come to him. So we came to him in the year of the Conquest of Makkah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked toward the horizon on the morning of the night we arrived, and said: When we reached Madinah, my companions rushed to dismount from their riding beasts, their camels and other animals, and began racing one another to meet the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), kiss his hand, and pledge allegiance to him. So he (peace be upon him) said: "Welcome to you all! What an excellent people are 'Abd al-Qays!" As for me, I did not rush. Instead, I waited until I hobbled my riding beast, then I put on my best clothes, groomed myself, and came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He said to me: "Indeed, you possess two qualities that Allah and His Messenger love: forbearance and deliberation." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, are these traits I cultivated in myself, or did Allah endow me with them naturally?" He said: "Rather, Allah endowed you with them naturally." So I said: "Praise be to Allah, Who endowed me naturally with two qualities that Allah and His Messenger love." We were hosted by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for ten days, during which I would ask the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about fiqh and the Qur'an. I used to go to Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), and he would teach me the Qur'an. When we intended to depart, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered gifts for our delegation, and he favored me above the rest, giving me twelve *uqiyahs* of silver. That was the largest reward the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ever bestowed upon anyone from the delegations. So, who am I? Share your answers with us in the comments below the video! We will pin the correct answer in the comments section when the next episode is released, Allah willing.
