WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.000 In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. 00:00:03.000 --> 00:00:07.629 A summary of the Tafsir of al-Tabari. 00:00:07.629 --> 00:00:12.820 Abridged by Dr. 'Aqil ibn Salim al-Shammari. 00:00:12.820 --> 00:00:15.910 Surah al-Qamar. 00:00:15.910 --> 00:00:21.859 In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. 00:00:21.859 --> 00:00:26.859 “The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain.” (54:1) 00:00:26.859 --> 00:00:31.500 The Hour has drawn near, the time when the Resurrection shall take place. 00:00:31.500 --> 00:00:33.500 And the moon has split asunder. 00:00:33.500 --> 00:00:38.500 This occurred, according to what has been mentioned, during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. 00:00:38.500 --> 00:00:42.500 This was in Makkah, before his migration to Madinah. 00:00:42.500 --> 00:00:46.570 It happened because the disbelievers of Makkah asked him for a sign. 00:00:46.570 --> 00:00:51.570 So he, peace be upon him, showed them the splitting of the moon. 00:00:51.570 --> 00:01:01.390 “And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion.” (54:2) 00:01:01.390 --> 00:01:08.390 And if the polytheists see a sign that points them to the truth of the prophethood of Muhammad, peace be upon him, 00:01:08.390 --> 00:01:13.390 they turn away from it, turning their backs while denying and rejecting it. 00:01:13.390 --> 00:01:16.390 And they say, in their denial, 00:01:16.390 --> 00:01:19.390 "This is magic; Muhammad has bewitched us." 00:01:19.390 --> 00:01:21.390 It is continuous and fleeting. 00:01:21.390 --> 00:01:30.060 “They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision” (54:3) 00:01:30.060 --> 00:01:34.640 These polytheists have denied the signs of Allah, 00:01:34.640 --> 00:01:38.640 and they have chosen to follow their own desires by persisting in that denial. 00:01:38.640 --> 00:01:43.640 Every matter, whether of good or evil, has a settled outcome. 00:01:43.640 --> 00:01:46.640 Good is settled for its people in Paradise, 00:01:46.640 --> 00:01:50.640 and evil is settled for its people in the Fire. 00:01:50.640 --> 00:01:59.599 “And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter,” (54:4) 00:01:59.599 --> 00:02:05.209 There has certainly come to these polytheists news of the nations of the past, 00:02:05.209 --> 00:02:11.210 who were, in their denial of the messengers of Allah, just like those who are currently in that state. 00:02:11.210 --> 00:02:17.210 And Allah brought upon them His punishments, which should deter them from the denial they are currently in. 00:02:18.780 --> 00:02:24.780 A profound wisdom, yet warnings are of no avail. 00:02:24.780 --> 00:02:30.550 There has come to them a profound wisdom, which is the Qur'an. 00:02:30.550 --> 00:02:36.550 It is said: There has come to them of the reports that which contains a deterrent. 00:02:36.550 --> 00:02:41.550 That is a profound wisdom, or it is a profound wisdom. 00:02:41.550 --> 00:02:45.550 So the warnings are of no use to them because of their turning away. 00:02:45.550 --> 00:02:49.550 It is said: What could the warnings possibly avail them? 00:02:49.550 --> 00:02:57.379 So turn away from them, on the day the Caller calls to a terrible thing. 00:02:57.379 --> 00:03:06.379 “With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad,” (54:7) 00:03:06.379 --> 00:03:14.379 “Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day.” (54:8) 00:03:14.379 --> 00:03:19.090 So turn away, O Muhammad, from these polytheists. 00:03:19.090 --> 00:03:24.090 For on the day the Caller of Allah calls them to the station of the Resurrection, 00:03:24.090 --> 00:03:29.090 their eyes will be humbled and downcast as they emerge from the graves. 00:03:29.090 --> 00:03:35.090 As if they were, in their spreading out and rushing toward the place of reckoning, locusts scattered. 00:03:35.090 --> 00:03:40.090 Hastening with their eyes fixed toward the Caller to that station. 00:03:40.090 --> 00:03:46.090 The disbelievers in Allah will say, "This is a difficult day," due to the intensity of its terrors. 00:03:46.090 --> 00:03:51.909 A summary of the Tafsir of al-Tabari.
