00:00:00.460 --> 00:00:08.580
Stories of the Prophets... Stories of the Prophets... peace be upon them.

00:00:08.580 --> 00:00:13.650
May Allah's blessings, followed by peace,

00:00:13.650 --> 00:00:19.129
Be upon the best of all creation,

00:00:19.129 --> 00:00:24.420
Possessors of resolve whose station is exalted.

00:00:24.420 --> 00:00:29.420
The story of Moses (peace be upon him).

00:00:29.420 --> 00:00:33.179
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

00:00:33.179 --> 00:00:36.179
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds,

00:00:36.179 --> 00:00:39.179
And may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad,

00:00:39.179 --> 00:00:43.179
And upon his family and all his Companions.

00:00:43.179 --> 00:00:49.210
To proceed: in this final chapter of the story of the Prophet of Allah, Moses (peace be upon him),

00:00:49.210 --> 00:00:52.210
With his people, the Children of Israel,

00:00:52.210 --> 00:00:58.210
We review some of the events that Allah has recounted to us of their news in His Mighty Book.

00:00:58.210 --> 00:01:00.270
Among those events

00:01:00.270 --> 00:01:04.269
Is the journey of Moses with al-Khidr (peace be upon them both).

00:01:04.269 --> 00:01:07.400
It is established in the Prophetic Sunnah

00:01:07.400 --> 00:01:12.400
That Moses (peace be upon him) stood to deliver a sermon among the Children of Israel,

00:01:12.400 --> 00:01:14.400
And he delivered an eloquent sermon

00:01:14.400 --> 00:01:16.400
From which eyes shed tears

00:01:16.400 --> 00:01:19.400
And hearts were humbled.

00:01:19.400 --> 00:01:23.459
Then a man stood up and asked Moses (peace be upon him),

00:01:23.459 --> 00:01:25.459
"Which of mankind is most knowledgeable?"

00:01:25.459 --> 00:01:28.459
Moses replied, "I am."

00:01:28.459 --> 00:01:30.500
So Allah reproached him,

00:01:30.500 --> 00:01:32.500
Because he did not attribute knowledge to Him.

00:01:32.500 --> 00:01:34.500
Allah said to him,

00:01:34.500 --> 00:01:36.500
"I have a servant at the junction of the two seas

00:01:36.500 --> 00:01:38.500
Who is more knowledgeable than you."

00:01:38.500 --> 00:01:40.659
Moses said,

00:01:40.659 --> 00:01:42.659
"O my Lord, how can I reach him?"

00:01:42.659 --> 00:01:44.750
Allah said,

00:01:44.750 --> 00:01:46.750
"You shall take a fish—

00:01:46.750 --> 00:01:48.750
A fish from the sea—

00:01:48.750 --> 00:01:50.750
And place the fish in a basket.

00:01:50.750 --> 00:01:52.750
Wherever you lose the fish,

00:01:52.750 --> 00:01:54.750
You will find him there."

00:01:54.750 --> 00:01:59.379
Moses (peace be upon him) took a fish

00:01:59.379 --> 00:02:01.379
And placed it in a basket,

00:02:01.379 --> 00:02:05.379
Then he set out with his young companion, Joshua son of Nun,

00:02:05.379 --> 00:02:08.379
On their journey in pursuit of knowledge.

00:02:08.379 --> 00:02:11.379
They would eat from that fish

00:02:11.379 --> 00:02:14.379
And take provision from it on their journey.

00:02:14.379 --> 00:02:18.379
When they reached a rock along their path,

00:02:18.379 --> 00:02:20.379
Moses (peace be upon him) wished

00:02:20.379 --> 00:02:23.379
To stop by it to rest,

00:02:23.379 --> 00:02:25.509
So they laid down their heads,

00:02:25.509 --> 00:02:28.509
And Moses (peace be upon him) fell asleep.

00:02:28.509 --> 00:02:32.539
At the base of the rock was a spring called the Spring of Life;

00:02:32.539 --> 00:02:35.539
Whatever its water touches

00:02:35.539 --> 00:02:37.539
Inevitably comes back to life.

00:02:37.539 --> 00:02:40.539
Some of the water from that spring touched the fish,

00:02:40.539 --> 00:02:42.539
So it stirred and moved,

00:02:42.539 --> 00:02:44.539
Slipped out of the basket,

00:02:44.539 --> 00:02:46.539
And made its way into the sea.

00:02:46.539 --> 00:02:49.539
Allah held back the flow of water from the fish,

00:02:49.539 --> 00:02:52.539
So it became like an archway over it,

00:02:52.539 --> 00:02:55.539
That is, like a track traced through the earth.

00:02:55.539 --> 00:02:58.090
Moses (peace be upon him) awoke,

00:02:58.090 --> 00:03:02.090
And Joshua forgot to inform him about the fish,

00:03:02.090 --> 00:03:06.090
So they continued walking for the rest of their night and day.

00:03:06.090 --> 00:03:09.090
When the next day came,

00:03:09.090 --> 00:03:12.090
Fatigue and hunger overtook Moses.

00:03:12.090 --> 00:03:14.090
Moses had felt no exhaustion

00:03:14.090 --> 00:03:18.090
Until he passed the place Allah had commanded him to reach.

00:03:18.090 --> 00:03:22.150
He asked his young companion, Joshua, to bring him food,

00:03:22.150 --> 00:03:25.150
Whereupon Joshua informed him that he had forgotten the fish

00:03:25.150 --> 00:03:27.150
Back at that rock,

00:03:27.150 --> 00:03:32.150
And that Satan had caused him to forget to mention it to him at the time.

00:03:32.150 --> 00:03:36.150
The fish had taken its course into the sea amazingly:

00:03:36.150 --> 00:03:40.150
Its path in the sea was a burrow for the fish,

00:03:40.150 --> 00:03:43.150
And a source of wonder for Moses and his young companion.

00:03:43.150 --> 00:03:46.310
Moses (peace be upon him) said,

00:03:46.310 --> 00:03:50.310
"That is what we were seeking on this journey of ours."

00:03:50.310 --> 00:03:53.310
So they retraced their footsteps,

00:03:53.310 --> 00:03:56.310
Until they reached the rock,

00:03:56.310 --> 00:03:59.379
And there was a man covered with a garment,

00:03:59.379 --> 00:04:02.379
Called al-Khidr (peace be upon him).

00:04:02.379 --> 00:04:05.379
Moses greeted him with peace, and he returned the greeting,

00:04:05.379 --> 00:04:09.379
Saying, "How can there be peace in your land?"

00:04:09.379 --> 00:04:12.379
He said, "I am Moses."

00:04:12.379 --> 00:04:15.500
He asked, "Moses of the Children of Israel?"

00:04:15.500 --> 00:04:17.500
He replied, "Yes,

00:04:17.500 --> 00:04:21.500
I have come to you so that you may teach me from what Allah has taught you."

00:04:21.500 --> 00:04:23.629
Al-Khidr (peace be upon him) said,

00:04:23.629 --> 00:04:25.629
"O Moses,

00:04:25.629 --> 00:04:28.629
I have knowledge from the knowledge of Allah

00:04:28.629 --> 00:04:31.629
Which Allah has taught me and you do not know,

00:04:31.629 --> 00:04:34.629
And you have knowledge from the knowledge of Allah

00:04:34.629 --> 00:04:37.629
Which Allah has taught you and I do not know."

00:04:37.629 --> 00:04:39.889
Moses said to al-Khidr,

00:04:39.889 --> 00:04:44.889
"May I follow you so that you teach me from what Allah has taught you?"

00:04:44.889 --> 00:04:47.019
Al-Khidr answered him,

00:04:47.019 --> 00:04:51.019
"You will not have the patience to accompany me and learn from me."

00:04:51.019 --> 00:04:53.019
Moses said,

00:04:53.019 --> 00:04:56.019
“He said: Allah willing, thou shalt find me patient and I shall not in aught gainsay thee.” (18:69)

00:04:56.019 --> 00:04:59.019
“He said: Allah willing, thou shalt find me patient and I shall not in aught gainsay thee.” (18:69)

00:04:59.019 --> 00:05:02.139
So al-Khidr (peace be upon him) agreed,

00:05:02.139 --> 00:05:05.139
And set a condition for Moses, saying,

00:05:05.139 --> 00:05:07.139
"If you follow me,

00:05:07.139 --> 00:05:09.139
“He said: Well, if thou go with me, ask me not concerning aught till I myself make mention of it unto thee.” (18:70)

00:05:09.139 --> 00:05:12.139
Until I myself mention it to you."

00:05:12.139 --> 00:05:15.529
Allah Almighty said:

00:05:15.529 --> 00:05:22.819
❝And [mention] when Moses said to his servant, 'I will not cease until I reach the junction of the two seas,

00:05:22.819 --> 00:05:24.819
Or continue for a long period.'❞

00:05:24.819 --> 00:05:28.819
❝So when they reached the junction between them,

00:05:28.819 --> 00:05:32.819
They forgot their fish,❞

00:05:32.819 --> 00:05:36.819
“And when they reached the point where the two met, they forgot their fish, and it took its way into the waters, being free.” (18:61)

00:05:36.819 --> 00:05:40.819
“And when they had gone further, he said unto his servant: Bring us our breakfast. Verily we have found fatigue in this our journey.” (18:62)

00:05:40.819 --> 00:05:46.819
❝'Bring us our morning meal;'❞

00:05:46.819 --> 00:05:51.819
“And when they had gone further, he said unto his servant: Bring us our breakfast. Verily we have found fatigue in this our journey.” (18:62)

00:05:51.819 --> 00:05:55.819
“He said: Didst thou see, when we took refuge on the rock, and I forgot the fish - and none but Satan caused me to forget to mention it - it took its way into the waters by a marvel.” (18:63)

00:05:55.819 --> 00:06:02.819
❝'Indeed, I forgot the fish;'❞

00:06:02.819 --> 00:06:07.819
“He said: Didst thou see, when we took refuge on the rock, and I forgot the fish - and none but Satan caused me to forget to mention it - it took its way into the waters by a marvel.” (18:63)

00:06:07.819 --> 00:06:11.819
“He said: Didst thou see, when we took refuge on the rock, and I forgot the fish - and none but Satan caused me to forget to mention it - it took its way into the waters by a marvel.” (18:63)

00:06:11.819 --> 00:06:16.819
“He said: This is that which we have been seeking. So they retraced their steps again.” (18:64)

00:06:16.819 --> 00:06:20.819
❝So they returned, following their footprints.❞

00:06:20.819 --> 00:06:34.819
“Then found they one of Our slaves, unto whom We had given mercy from Us, and had taught him knowledge from Our presence.” (18:65)

00:06:34.819 --> 00:06:39.819
“Then found they one of Our slaves, unto whom We had given mercy from Us, and had taught him knowledge from Our presence.” (18:65)

00:06:39.819 --> 00:06:47.819
“Moses said unto him: May I follow thee, to the end that thou mayst teach me right conduct of that which thou hast been taught?” (18:66)

00:06:47.819 --> 00:06:53.819
“He said: Lo! thou canst not bear with me.” (18:67)

00:06:53.819 --> 00:06:58.819
“How canst thou bear with that whereof thou canst not compass any knowledge?” (18:68)

00:06:58.819 --> 00:07:08.819
“He said: Allah willing, thou shalt find me patient and I shall not in aught gainsay thee.” (18:69)

00:07:08.819 --> 00:07:17.819
“He said: Well, if thou go with me, ask me not concerning aught till I myself make mention of it unto thee.” (18:70)

00:07:17.819 --> 00:07:23.319
And so began the extraordinary and wondrous journey,

00:07:23.319 --> 00:07:27.319
And Allah, Mighty and Majestic, recounts to us what took place in it:

00:07:27.319 --> 00:07:30.420
Three perplexing incidents

00:07:30.420 --> 00:07:35.420
Regarding which Moses (peace be upon him) could not suppress his astonishment,

00:07:35.420 --> 00:07:43.420
Nor could he keep his pledge to al-Khidr not to question him about anything that occurred while accompanying him.

00:07:43.420 --> 00:07:48.629
Moses and al-Khidr set out, walking along the seashore,

00:07:48.629 --> 00:07:51.629
When a ship passed by them,

00:07:51.629 --> 00:07:54.629
So the crew offered to carry them aboard.

00:07:54.629 --> 00:07:57.629
They recognized the righteous servant, al-Khidr,

00:07:57.629 --> 00:08:00.629
So they carried the two of them without any fare.

00:08:00.629 --> 00:08:02.629
When they boarded the ship,

00:08:02.629 --> 00:08:06.629
A sparrow came and perched on the edge of the ship,

00:08:06.629 --> 00:08:10.629
And dipped its beak once or twice into the sea.

00:08:10.629 --> 00:08:12.699
Al-Khidr said,

00:08:12.699 --> 00:08:17.699
"O Moses, my knowledge and your knowledge have not diminished the knowledge of Allah

00:08:17.699 --> 00:08:22.699
Any more than this sparrow has diminished the sea with its beak."

00:08:22.699 --> 00:08:25.500
Then al-Khidr took an adze

00:08:25.500 --> 00:08:28.500
And pulled out a plank from the ship.

00:08:28.500 --> 00:08:30.500
Moses said to him,

00:08:30.500 --> 00:08:32.500
"What have you done?

00:08:32.500 --> 00:08:34.500
A people carried us without fare,

00:08:34.500 --> 00:08:37.500
Yet you deliberately damaged their ship by scuttling it,

00:08:37.500 --> 00:08:39.500
So as to drown its passengers!

00:08:39.500 --> 00:08:42.500
Truly, this is a dreadful thing."

00:08:42.500 --> 00:08:44.529
Al-Khidr said,

00:08:44.529 --> 00:08:46.529
"Did I not tell you, O Moses,

00:08:46.529 --> 00:08:50.529
That you would not be able to bear with me and learn from me?"

00:08:50.529 --> 00:08:52.529
Moses apologized to him

00:08:52.529 --> 00:08:56.529
And explained that he had forgotten what he had promised him

00:08:56.529 --> 00:08:58.529
Before they set out together.

00:08:58.529 --> 00:09:00.529
So al-Khidr excused him,

00:09:00.529 --> 00:09:02.529
And they continued their journey.

00:09:02.529 --> 00:09:06.519
When they came ashore from the sea,

00:09:06.519 --> 00:09:09.519
They passed by a boy playing with other children,

00:09:09.519 --> 00:09:13.519
So al-Khidr took him by the head and severed it with his hand,

00:09:13.519 --> 00:09:14.519
Killing him.

00:09:14.519 --> 00:09:17.649
Moses (peace be upon him) denounced him

00:09:17.649 --> 00:09:19.649
And objected to him, saying,

00:09:19.649 --> 00:09:23.649
"How could you kill a soul that has committed no crime?"

00:09:23.649 --> 00:09:25.649
Al-Khidr replied to him,

00:09:25.649 --> 00:09:28.649
"I told you at the very beginning

00:09:28.649 --> 00:09:32.649
That you would not be able to bear with me and learn from me."

00:09:32.649 --> 00:09:35.779
Thereupon Moses apologized to him a second time

00:09:35.779 --> 00:09:40.779
And promised that he would not repeat his objection again,

00:09:40.779 --> 00:09:42.779
And that if he were to object once more,

00:09:42.779 --> 00:09:45.779
Al-Khidr would be fully justified in parting from him.

00:09:45.779 --> 00:09:48.779
So al-Khidr (peace be upon him) agreed.

00:09:48.779 --> 00:09:53.899
Then Moses and al-Khidr continued on their way

00:09:53.899 --> 00:09:55.899
And passed by a town.

00:09:55.899 --> 00:09:59.899
Severe hunger had taken a heavy toll on both of them,

00:09:59.899 --> 00:10:02.929
So they asked the people of the town for hospitality,

00:10:02.929 --> 00:10:06.929
But they refused to offer them any food.

00:10:06.929 --> 00:10:08.960
Meanwhile,

00:10:08.960 --> 00:10:13.960
Al-Khidr (peace be upon him) saw a wall leaning and on the verge of collapsing,

00:10:13.960 --> 00:10:17.960
So he set about repairing it and supporting it with buttresses

00:10:17.960 --> 00:10:19.960
To prevent it from falling.

00:10:19.960 --> 00:10:25.090
Al-Khidr did not ask the people of the town for any wage for his work.

00:10:25.090 --> 00:10:29.220
Moses (peace be upon him) was astonished at this action:

00:10:29.220 --> 00:10:32.220
How could al-Khidr do this,

00:10:32.220 --> 00:10:38.220
When the people had not offered them anything to stave off the pangs of hunger?

00:10:38.220 --> 00:10:42.340
He turned to al-Khidr and addressed him, saying,

00:10:42.340 --> 00:10:47.409
"A people we came to neither fed us nor hosted us,

00:10:47.409 --> 00:10:50.409
Yet you went ahead and rebuilt their wall!

00:10:50.409 --> 00:10:55.539
Would it not have been fitting for you to ask for a wage for this work of yours,

00:10:55.539 --> 00:11:01.539
Or at least ask for food in return for what you did?"

00:11:01.539 --> 00:11:04.629
Al-Khidr said to Moses,

00:11:04.629 --> 00:11:09.730
"The time has now come for us to part ways after all that has happened.

00:11:09.730 --> 00:11:12.730
Events and circumstances have proven

00:11:12.730 --> 00:11:17.730
That you are unable to bear with me and stay by my side.

00:11:17.730 --> 00:11:19.730
Nonetheless,

00:11:19.730 --> 00:11:22.730
I will inform you of the reality behind what I did."

00:11:22.730 --> 00:11:26.659
Allah Almighty said:

00:11:26.659 --> 00:11:32.659
❝So they set out, until when they had embarked on the ship, he damaged it.❞

00:11:32.659 --> 00:11:39.659
“So they twain set out till, when they were in the ship, he made a hole therein. (Moses) said: Hast thou made a hole therein to drown the folk thereof? Thou verily hast done a dreadful thing.” (18:71)

00:11:39.659 --> 00:11:46.659
❝He said, 'Did I not say that with me you would never be able to have patience?'❞

00:11:46.659 --> 00:11:53.659
“(Moses) said: Be not wroth with me that I forgot, and be not hard upon me for my fault.” (18:73)

00:11:53.659 --> 00:12:00.659
❝So they set out, until when they met a boy, he killed him.❞

00:12:00.659 --> 00:12:13.659
“So they twain journeyed on till, when they met a lad, he slew him. (Moses) said: What! Hast thou slain an innocent soul who hath slain no man? Verily thou hast done a horrid thing.” (18:74)

00:12:13.659 --> 00:12:20.659
“He said: Did I not tell thee that thou couldst not bear with me?” (18:75)

00:12:20.659 --> 00:12:28.659
“(Moses) said: If I ask thee after this concerning aught, keep not company with me. Thou hast received an excuse from me.” (18:76)

00:12:28.659 --> 00:12:33.659
“(Moses) said: If I ask thee after this concerning aught, keep not company with me. Thou hast received an excuse from me.” (18:76)

00:12:33.659 --> 00:12:47.659
❝So they set out, until when they came to the people of a town, they asked its people for food, but they refused to offer them hospitality.❞

00:12:47.659 --> 00:12:54.659
“So they twain journeyed on till, when they came unto the folk of a certain township, they asked its folk for food, but they refused to make them guests. And they found therein a wall upon the point of falling into ruin, and he repaired it. (Moses) said: If thou hadst wished, thou couldst have taken payment for it.” (18:77)

00:12:54.659 --> 00:12:58.659

00:12:58.659 --> 00:13:08.659
“He said: This is the parting between thee and me! I will announce unto thee the interpretation of that thou couldst not bear with patience.” (18:78)

00:13:08.659 --> 00:13:15.379
Al-Khidr began recounting to Moses the wisdom and lessons behind everything he had done.

00:13:15.379 --> 00:13:22.450
He informed him that the ship belonged to poor people who earned their living by it,

00:13:22.450 --> 00:13:26.450
And ahead of them on their route was a tyrannical king

00:13:26.450 --> 00:13:35.450
Who seized every sound, undamaged ship while leaving any ship that had a defect or damage.

00:13:35.450 --> 00:13:44.509
"So I intended to damage it and cause a defect in it to prevent those pirates from seizing and confiscating it.

00:13:44.509 --> 00:13:51.799
As for the boy, his parents were believers, while in Allah's foreknowledge he was a disbeliever,

00:13:51.799 --> 00:14:01.860
And it was feared that he would bring harm upon them, so I killed him to prevent him from leading his parents astray and turning them away from their faith in Allah;

00:14:01.860 --> 00:14:08.899
For parental affection may sometimes lead to praiseworthy outcomes being abandoned,

00:14:08.899 --> 00:14:14.899
And it might drive a believer to forsake his faith if dragged along by such emotion.

00:14:14.899 --> 00:14:19.990
And we intended that Allah should substitute for his parents a child better than him in purity

00:14:19.990 --> 00:14:22.990
And closer in affection and mercy.

00:14:22.990 --> 00:14:31.309
As for restoring the wall that was about to collapse, beneath it was a buried treasure belonging to two orphan boys;

00:14:31.309 --> 00:14:38.309
Had the wall fallen before the two boys reached maturity, that treasure would have been lost to them,

00:14:38.309 --> 00:14:42.309
For they had no ability to defend their rights.

00:14:42.309 --> 00:14:49.379
Thus, the purpose of rebuilding it was to safeguard the right of these two orphan boys to this wealth,

00:14:49.379 --> 00:14:54.759
In honor of their righteous father." Allah Almighty said:

00:14:54.759 --> 00:15:06.860
“As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working on the river, and I wished to mar it, for there was a king behind them who is taking every ship by force.” (18:79)

00:15:06.860 --> 00:15:14.860
“As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working on the river, and I wished to mar it, for there was a king behind them who is taking every ship by force.” (18:79)

00:15:14.860 --> 00:15:24.860
“And as for the lad, his parents were believers and we feared lest he should oppress them by rebellion and disbelief.” (18:80)

00:15:24.860 --> 00:15:33.860
“And we intended that their Lord should change him for them for one better in purity and nearer to mercy.” (18:81)

00:15:34.860 --> 00:15:48.860
“And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure belonging to them, and their father had been righteous, and thy Lord intended that they should come to their full strength and should bring forth their treasure as a mercy from their Lord; and I did it not upon my own command. Such is the interpretation of that wherewith thou couldst not bear.” (18:82)

00:15:48.860 --> 00:15:58.860

00:15:58.860 --> 00:16:07.860

00:16:07.860 --> 00:16:12.860
❝That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience.❞

00:16:12.860 --> 00:16:20.590
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "We wish that Moses had shown patience,

00:16:20.590 --> 00:16:26.720
so that Allah would have related to us more of their story" — agreed upon.

00:16:26.720 --> 00:16:34.350
The Prophet of Allah and His conversationalist, Moses (peace be upon him), was not spared the harm of the Children of Israel

00:16:34.350 --> 00:16:39.350
and their audacity toward him, which stemmed from their terrible insolence toward their prophets.

00:16:39.350 --> 00:16:45.350
In fact, it even reached the point of them killing some of them; and Allah's help is sought.

00:16:45.350 --> 00:16:51.610
It is recorded in Sahih Muslim that the Children of Israel used to bathe naked,

00:16:51.610 --> 00:16:54.610
looking at one another's private parts,

00:16:54.610 --> 00:16:58.639
while Moses (peace be upon him) used to bathe alone.

00:16:58.639 --> 00:17:03.639
So they said, "By Allah, nothing prevents Moses from bathing with us

00:17:03.639 --> 00:17:08.640
except that he has a scrotal hernia," meaning enlarged testicles.

00:17:08.640 --> 00:17:12.859
One day, Moses (peace be upon him) went to bathe,

00:17:12.859 --> 00:17:17.859
and placed his garment on a stone, but the stone ran away with his garment.

00:17:17.859 --> 00:17:21.930
So Moses ran after it, saying,

00:17:21.930 --> 00:17:25.930
"My garment, O stone! My garment, O stone!"

00:17:25.930 --> 00:17:29.930
until the Children of Israel saw the naked body of Moses

00:17:29.930 --> 00:17:33.930
and said, "By Allah, there is no defect in Moses."

00:17:33.930 --> 00:17:38.930
The stone then stopped, so Moses took his garment,

00:17:38.930 --> 00:17:41.930
and began striking the stone repeatedly.

00:17:41.930 --> 00:17:46.059
Regarding this, Allah Almighty says:

00:17:46.059 --> 00:18:01.309
“O ye who believe! Be not as those who slandered Moses, but Allah proved his innocence of that which they alleged, and he was well esteemed in Allah's sight.” (33:69)

00:18:01.309 --> 00:18:08.309
“O ye who believe! Be not as those who slandered Moses, but Allah proved his innocence of that which they alleged, and he was well esteemed in Allah's sight.” (33:69)

00:18:08.309 --> 00:18:15.779
During these years of wandering, the Prophet of Allah, Aaron (peace be upon him), passed away.

00:18:15.779 --> 00:18:21.819
Then, three years after him, the Angel of Death came in the form of a man

00:18:21.819 --> 00:18:25.819
to take the soul of the Prophet of Allah, Moses (peace be upon him).

00:18:25.819 --> 00:18:29.849
When he came, Moses did not recognize him,

00:18:29.849 --> 00:18:32.849
so he struck him and gouged out his eye.

00:18:32.849 --> 00:18:35.880
The Angel of Death returned and said,

00:18:35.880 --> 00:18:39.880
"O my Lord, You sent me to a servant who does not want to die."

00:18:39.880 --> 00:18:42.880
Allah said, "Go back to him

00:18:42.880 --> 00:18:46.880
and tell him to place his hand on the back of an ox,

00:18:46.880 --> 00:18:50.880
and for every hair his hand covers, he will have one year of life."

00:18:50.880 --> 00:18:54.099
The Angel of Death came to him and informed him,

00:18:54.099 --> 00:18:58.099
so Moses asked him, "Then what happens after that?"

00:18:58.099 --> 00:19:02.099
He replied, "Death." Moses said,

00:19:02.099 --> 00:19:06.099
"Then let it be now." So he took his soul.

00:19:06.099 --> 00:19:10.259
And Moses (peace be upon him) asked his Lord

00:19:10.259 --> 00:19:13.259
to bring him close to the Holy Land

00:19:13.259 --> 00:19:15.380
by the distance of a stone's throw.

00:19:15.380 --> 00:19:19.380
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said,

00:19:19.380 --> 00:19:22.380
"If I were there,

00:19:22.380 --> 00:19:26.380
I would show you his grave by the side of the road,

00:19:26.380 --> 00:19:28.380
at the red dune."

00:19:28.380 --> 00:19:32.539
And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said,

00:19:32.539 --> 00:19:36.539
"When I was taken on the Night Journey, I passed by Moses

00:19:36.539 --> 00:19:39.539
standing in prayer in his grave,

00:19:39.539 --> 00:19:42.789
near the red dune."

00:19:42.789 --> 00:19:45.789
When the forty years came to an end,

00:19:45.789 --> 00:19:49.789
which Allah had decreed for the Children of Israel to wander in the wilderness,

00:19:49.789 --> 00:19:51.789
and the first generation had died out—

00:19:51.789 --> 00:19:54.789
that which had been raised upon humiliation and disgrace—

00:19:54.789 --> 00:19:56.789
and a new generation arose,

00:19:56.789 --> 00:19:59.789
Allah sent to them the young companion of Moses,

00:19:59.789 --> 00:20:01.789
who was Joshua son of Nun.

00:20:01.789 --> 00:20:03.789
He called upon the Children of Israel,

00:20:03.789 --> 00:20:06.789
informing them that he was a prophet

00:20:06.789 --> 00:20:10.789
and that Allah had commanded him to fight the tyrants.

00:20:10.789 --> 00:20:12.789
So they pledged allegiance to him and believed him,

00:20:12.789 --> 00:20:16.890
and he set out with them toward the Blessed Land.

00:20:16.890 --> 00:20:19.890
When the people of Bayt al-Maqdis learned of them,

00:20:19.890 --> 00:20:22.890
they went to a man among them called

00:20:22.890 --> 00:20:24.890
Balaam son of Beor,

00:20:24.890 --> 00:20:26.890
whose supplications were always answered

00:20:26.890 --> 00:20:29.890
and who possessed the Greatest Name of Allah.

00:20:29.890 --> 00:20:31.890
They said to him,

00:20:31.890 --> 00:20:33.890
"Joshua is a formidable man,

00:20:33.890 --> 00:20:35.890
he has a large army with him,

00:20:35.890 --> 00:20:38.890
and he has come to drive us out of our land

00:20:38.890 --> 00:20:41.890
and settle the Children of Israel in it.

00:20:41.890 --> 00:20:44.890
You are a man whose supplication is answered,

00:20:44.890 --> 00:20:47.890
so pray to Allah to turn them away from us."

00:20:47.890 --> 00:20:49.890
He said,

00:20:49.890 --> 00:20:51.890
"Woe to you! He is the Prophet of Allah,

00:20:51.890 --> 00:20:53.890
and the believers are with him!

00:20:53.890 --> 00:20:55.890
How can I pray against them

00:20:55.890 --> 00:20:58.890
when I know concerning Allah what I know?

00:20:58.890 --> 00:21:00.920
If I were to do this,

00:21:00.920 --> 00:21:03.920
my worldly life and my Hereafter would be ruined."

00:21:03.920 --> 00:21:07.019
But they kept coming back to him and pleading persistently,

00:21:07.019 --> 00:21:09.019
offering him worldly wealth

00:21:09.019 --> 00:21:11.019
until they persuaded him.

00:21:11.019 --> 00:21:13.019
So he prayed against them,

00:21:13.019 --> 00:21:15.019
but his supplication rebounded upon his own people,

00:21:15.019 --> 00:21:18.019
and he lost both this worldly life and the Hereafter.

00:21:18.019 --> 00:21:21.049
His state became like that of a dog

00:21:21.049 --> 00:21:24.049
that pants in either case:

00:21:24.049 --> 00:21:27.049
whether you drive it away or leave it alone.

00:21:27.049 --> 00:21:31.240
When Balaam saw that wretchedness had been decreed for him,

00:21:31.240 --> 00:21:33.240
he said to his people,

00:21:33.240 --> 00:21:35.269
"I will direct you to something

00:21:35.269 --> 00:21:38.269
that may bring about their destruction.

00:21:38.269 --> 00:21:41.269
Indeed, Allah hates fornication,

00:21:41.269 --> 00:21:44.269
and if they fall into fornication, they will perish.

00:21:44.269 --> 00:21:47.269
Send out the women to receive them,

00:21:47.269 --> 00:21:50.269
for they are traveling men;

00:21:50.269 --> 00:21:53.269
perhaps they will commit fornication and thus be destroyed."

00:21:53.269 --> 00:21:57.299
So they did so and sent the women out to them,

00:21:57.299 --> 00:22:00.299
and the Children of Israel fell into fornication.

00:22:00.299 --> 00:22:04.339
And the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

00:22:04.339 --> 00:22:08.339
"Beware of the world and beware of women,

00:22:08.339 --> 00:22:11.339
for the first tribulation of the Children of Israel

00:22:11.339 --> 00:22:14.339
was regarding women."

00:22:14.339 --> 00:22:16.779
Allah Almighty said:

00:22:16.779 --> 00:22:22.880
“Recite unto them the tale of him to whom We gave Our revelations, but he sloughed them off, so Satan overtook him and he became of those who lead astray.” (7:175)

00:22:22.880 --> 00:22:25.880
"but he detached himself from them,

00:22:25.880 --> 00:22:28.880
so he detached himself from them,

00:22:28.880 --> 00:22:30.880
so Satan pursued him,

00:22:30.880 --> 00:22:33.880
and he became of those who were led astray.

00:22:33.880 --> 00:22:36.880
“And had We willed We could have raised him by their means, but he clung to the earth and followed his own lust. Therefor his likeness is as the likeness of a dog: if thou attackest him he panteth with his tongue out, and if thou leavest him he panteth with his tongue out. Such is the likeness of the people who deny Our revelations. Narrate unto them the history (of the men of old), that haply they may take thought.” (7:176)

00:22:36.880 --> 00:22:44.880

00:22:44.880 --> 00:22:47.880
and followed his own desires.

00:22:47.880 --> 00:22:50.880
So his example is like that of a dog:

00:22:50.880 --> 00:22:53.880

00:22:53.880 --> 00:22:55.880
or you leave it, it pants.

00:22:55.880 --> 00:23:01.880

00:23:01.880 --> 00:23:07.880
So relate the stories that perhaps they may reflect."

00:23:07.880 --> 00:23:12.289
None remained steadfast with Joshua (peace be upon him)

00:23:12.289 --> 00:23:15.289
except a portion of the Children of Israel.

00:23:15.289 --> 00:23:17.289
He entered Bayt al-Maqdis with them,

00:23:17.289 --> 00:23:19.289
and Allah granted him conquest

00:23:19.289 --> 00:23:23.289
and decreed for him victory over the tyrannical people.

00:23:23.289 --> 00:23:27.289
Then Allah commanded them to enter the city prostrating,

00:23:27.289 --> 00:23:33.289
meaning bowing down in humility before Allah upon entering,

00:23:33.289 --> 00:23:35.289
and to say, "Hittah,"

00:23:35.289 --> 00:23:38.289
meaning, "Relieve us of our sins."

00:23:38.289 --> 00:23:42.380
But they altered Allah's command to them in word and in deed:

00:23:42.380 --> 00:23:47.380
they entered crawling on their backsides with their heads raised,

00:23:47.380 --> 00:23:50.380
instead of entering prostrating,

00:23:50.380 --> 00:23:53.380
and instead of saying "Hittah,"

00:23:53.380 --> 00:23:58.420
they mocked and said, "A grain of wheat in a barley hair."

00:23:58.420 --> 00:24:03.509
This was the utmost degree of defiance and stubbornness,

00:24:03.509 --> 00:24:06.509
so Allah sent down His wrath and punishment upon them

00:24:06.509 --> 00:24:10.509
because of their defiance and disobedience to Him;

00:24:10.509 --> 00:24:13.960
and that is the recompense of the wrongdoers.

00:24:13.960 --> 00:24:15.960
Allah Almighty said:

00:24:15.960 --> 00:24:20.059
"And [remember] when We said, 'Enter this city

00:24:20.059 --> 00:24:28.059
“And when We said: Go into this township and eat freely of that which is therein, and enter the gate prostrate, and say: "Repentance." We will forgive you your sins and will increase (reward) for the right-doers.” (2:58)

00:24:28.059 --> 00:24:31.059
and enter the gate prostrating,

00:24:31.059 --> 00:24:34.059
and say, "Relieve us of our sins,"

00:24:34.059 --> 00:24:39.059
“And when We said: Go into this township and eat freely of that which is therein, and enter the gate prostrate, and say: "Repentance." We will forgive you your sins and will increase (reward) for the right-doers.” (2:58)

00:24:39.059 --> 00:24:43.059
and We will increase the doers of good.'"

00:24:43.059 --> 00:24:49.059
“But those who did wrong changed the word which had been told them for another saying, and We sent down upon the evil-doers wrath from heaven for their evil-doing.” (2:59)

00:24:49.059 --> 00:25:04.059
“But those who did wrong changed the word which had been told them for another saying, and We sent down upon the evil-doers wrath from heaven for their evil-doing.” (2:59)

00:25:04.059 --> 00:25:08.109
O noble brothers,

00:25:08.109 --> 00:25:11.109
indeed the Prophet of Allah, Moses (peace be upon him),

00:25:11.109 --> 00:25:14.109
is among the most frequently mentioned prophets in the Qur'an,

00:25:14.109 --> 00:25:19.109
and his story appears in numerous surahs of the Book of Allah.

00:25:19.109 --> 00:25:23.140
For Allah mentioned Moses (peace be upon him) in the Qur'an

00:25:23.140 --> 00:25:26.140
one hundred and thirty-six times,

00:25:26.140 --> 00:25:30.140
and his story contains many lessons and morals;

00:25:30.140 --> 00:25:34.140
we suffice with what has been mentioned during this narrative.

00:25:34.140 --> 00:25:38.339
The age of Moses (peace be upon him) at the time of his death was

00:25:38.339 --> 00:25:40.339
one hundred and twenty years.

00:25:40.339 --> 00:25:45.559
It is related that Joshua (peace be upon him) saw him in a dream after his death

00:25:45.559 --> 00:25:47.559
and said to him,

00:25:47.559 --> 00:25:49.559
"How did you find death?"

00:25:49.559 --> 00:25:50.559
He replied,

00:25:50.559 --> 00:25:54.619
"Like a sheep being skinned while still alive."

00:25:54.619 --> 00:25:59.619
This is the true meaning of the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him):

00:25:59.619 --> 00:26:05.059
"Indeed, death has agonies."

00:26:05.059 --> 00:26:08.059
To be continued, if Allah wills.

00:26:08.059 --> 00:26:09.059
And Allah knows best.

00:26:09.059 --> 00:26:12.059
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds,

00:26:12.059 --> 00:26:16.059
and may peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad,

00:26:16.059 --> 00:26:19.059
and upon all his family and Companions.

00:26:19.059 --> 00:26:24.500
You were listening to Stories of the Prophets.
