I am one of the Companions, from the masters of Makkah.
I was the leader of the Quraysh caravan that fled on the day of Badr.
I was the head of Quraysh and their commander on the day of Uhud and the day of the Trench.
I had my share of errors and difficult matters.
But Allah reached me with His mercy and grace.
I embraced Islam on the day of the Conquest, somewhat compelled and afraid.
Then, my Islam became sincere and excellent.
I was one of the shrewd men of the Arabs.
And I was among those of sound judgment and nobility among them.
I witnessed the battle of Hunayn.
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, gave me from the spoils.
One hundred camels.
And forty ounces of gold.
Seeking to reconcile my heart thereby.
And after my conversion to Islam.
I witnessed with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
The battle of Ta'if.
My eye was gouged out on that day.
Then the other was gouged out on the day of Yarmouk.
Yet I did not abandon jihad.
I would go out with the armies while I was blind.
I would incite the battalions and say:
"Allah! Allah!"
"You are the supporters of Islam."
"And the protectors of the Arabs."
"And those are the supporters of polytheism and the protectors of the Romans."
"O Allah, this is one of Your days."
"O Allah, send down Your victory."
"O victory of Allah, draw near."
The Prophet, peace be upon him, married.
My daughter, Umm Habibah.
And thus I became his father-in-law, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
