In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. The pulpit. The believer possesses a sense of protective jealousy (ghirah), and Allah is even more jealous. This protective jealousy. The loss of this protective jealousy. It is the loss of one's entire faith. The loss of this protective jealousy. It is one of the signs of the Hour, as mentioned in the traditions. When the end of time arrives. Allah will lift four things from the earth. He will lift blessings from the earth. Justice from the rulers. Modesty from women. And protective jealousy from the hearts of men. This protective jealousy. A sermon by the honorable Sheikh. Khalid Ibn 'Abdullah al-Humudi, may Allah preserve him. Praise be to Allah. O Allah, to You belongs all praise, first and last, outwardly and inwardly. O Allah, to You belongs praise, abundant and manifold, just as Your blessings are abundant. O Allah, to You belongs praise for every blessing. O Allah, to You belongs praise; You have fed us, given us drink, sheltered us, and sufficed us. And for every good we asked of You, You have granted us. O Allah, to You belongs praise as You have praised Yourself. And as the bearers of Your Throne have praised You. And as Your angels brought near have praised You. And the prophets and messengers. And Your righteous servants. O Allah, to You belongs praise. We cannot enumerate the praises due to You. You are as You have praised Yourself. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone, with no partner. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. The companion of every lonely soul. Near, not far. Victorious, never defeated. The Giver of bounties. The Repeller of calamities. Independent of His servants. Generous, Merciful, Bountiful. My sins seemed overwhelming, but when I weighed them. Against Your pardon, my Lord, Your pardon was greater. Whoever seeks refuge in Allah is safe from all creation. And whoever hopes in Him. [The speaker is reciting poetry: "How could the idols ever reach us?"] Indeed, by Allah, whoever tastes the love of Allah is satisfied. I bear witness that our master, our prophet, and our beloved, Muhammad, is the servant of Allah and His messenger. His chosen one and His intimate friend. We bear witness that he delivered the message. He fulfilled the trust. He gave sincere counsel to the Ummah. And through him, Allah, the Almighty, dispelled the gloom. He strove for the sake of Allah as is His due, until certainty came to him. You are the one for whose affection the inanimate yearned. And the animal complained to you when it saw you. The tree trunk heard your sighing. And wept out of longing to meet you. What could our praise and eulogy add to you? When Allah has already exalted you in the Qur'an. May the peace of Allah be upon you, O beacon of guidance. I am longing, longing to see you. O Allah, send peace, blessings, and increase upon. Your servant, messenger, prophet, and beloved, Muhammad. And upon his family and his Companions. And grant him abundant peace until the Day of Judgment. Now then, servants of Allah. I advise you and myself to fear Allah. “O ye who believe! Observe your duty to Allah with right observance, and die not save as those who have surrendered (unto Him)” (3:102) And do not die except as Muslims. O community of believers. I have seen nothing more strange than a Muslim. Bidding farewell to a year that does not concern him. And awaiting the beginning of a year that has no meaning for him. Ask Allah to let us reach Ramadan. To keep us safe for it. And to accept it from us. How swift are the days. And the months. We have in the months of our upright religion. That which we rejoice in. And which we await. So let us be followers, not imitators. Servants of Allah. Our topic today. Is about an important matter. We begin with this noble verse. Our Lord, the Almighty and Majestic, says. After seeking refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. “Say: My Lord forbiddeth only indecencies, such of them as are apparent and such as are within, and sin and wrongful oppression, and that ye associate with Allah that for which no warrant hath been revealed, and that ye tell concerning Allah that which ye know not.” (7:33) "What is apparent of them and what is hidden." “Say: My Lord forbiddeth only indecencies, such of them as are apparent and such as are within, and sin and wrongful oppression, and that ye associate with Allah that for which no warrant hath been revealed, and that ye tell concerning Allah that which ye know not.” (7:33) "And that you associate with Allah." "And that you associate with Allah." "That for which He has not sent down authority." "And that you say about Allah that which you do not know." The scholars have used this noble verse. As a foundation for establishing the protective jealousy (ghirah) for the sake of Allah. Among His, the Almighty's, protective jealousy. Is that He has forbidden immoralities. Meaning, sins. These are acts for which a legal punishment (hadd) is prescribed. And sin. A term for that which does not require a legal punishment. And transgression. Which is injustice and overstepping the limits. And that one should set up rivals to Allah. While He is their Creator. Our topic, O servants of Allah. Is about protective jealousy (ghirah). Ghirah is a sense of honor and self-respect. And ghirah cannot exist without love. For the stronger your love for something is. The stronger your ghirah for it becomes. Ghirah is among the attributes of Allah, the Exalted. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said. "There is nothing more jealous than Allah." Because of that. He has forbidden immoralities. Both the apparent and the hidden. Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim. Ghirah is also among the traits of the believers. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said. "The believer possesses ghirah." "And Allah is even more jealous." Agreed upon. And the loss of ghirah. Is the loss of one's entire faith. Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, says. If ghirah departs from the heart. Love departs from it as well. Indeed, the religion itself departs from it. Ghirah is the foundation of jihad. And of enjoining good and forbidding evil. For if it is absent from the heart. One will not strive (jihad). And will not enjoin the good. And the loss of ghirah. Is a sign of the signs of the Hour. As mentioned in the traditions. When the end of time arrives. Allah will lift four things from the earth. He will lift blessings from the earth. Justice from the rulers. Modesty from women. And ghirah from the hearts of men. As for why ghirah is important. It is because when a servant is blessed with ghirah. He is keen. To be honorable and proud of his religion. And that the enemies of Allah should not be better than him. The Exalted says. “Yet of mankind are some who take unto themselves (objects of worship which they set as) rivals to Allah, loving them with a love like (that which is the due) of Allah (only) - those who believe are stauncher in their love for Allah - Oh, that those who do evil had but known, (on the day) when they behold the doom, that power belongeth wholly to Allah, and that Allah is severe in punishment!” (2:165) "Rivals, loving them as they love Allah." “Yet of mankind are some who take unto themselves (objects of worship which they set as) rivals to Allah, loving them with a love like (that which is the due) of Allah (only) - those who believe are stauncher in their love for Allah - Oh, that those who do evil had but known, (on the day) when they behold the doom, that power belongeth wholly to Allah, and that Allah is severe in punishment!” (2:165) 'Abdullah Ibn Hudhafah al-Sahmi was taken prisoner. Along with a group of soldiers by the King of Rome. He invited him to Christianity, but he refused. So he tied him to a tree. And shot arrows between his hands and feet. Yet he did not show fear. Then he imprisoned him for days. When hunger reached its peak. He offered him wine. And he offered him pork. He said, "My religion." "Permits me to eat it out of necessity." "But I will not." "And I will not let a disbeliever gloat over me." Then he brought a great cauldron. And put oil in it. And lit a fire beneath it until it boiled. Then he threw one of the Muslims into it. And he dissolved in it. Just as salt dissolves in water. Then he brought 'Abdullah. He brought him to the cauldron. And lowered him toward it. When he was about to reach it. 'Abdullah wept. The King of Rome rejoiced. And said, "Bring him out." Then he offered him Christianity again. But he refused. So he asked him. "What was the reason for your weeping?" He said, "Because I have." "Only one soul." "And I wished." "That I had a hundred souls." "To be sacrificed one after another." "For the sake of Allah, the Almighty." So the King of Rome asked him. To kiss his head. And that he would set him free. 'Abdullah said. "No." "Not until you set me free." "And set free those who are with me as well." He said, "I will do it." So he kissed his head. And set him free. And those who were with him. 'Abdullah returned. to Medina And 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, saw him. 'Abdullah saw her in a state of sadness. Then 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, asked him. What is it that has saddened you, O ‘Abdullah? What is the cause of your sadness? He said, "I have kissed your head, for do you see..." Then ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, stood up. And he said It is a duty incumbent upon every Muslim. He sees that he should kiss your head. And I shall begin with them. When a servant is blessed with a sense of protective jealousy, O servants of Allah. The devil was far away. from dragging him toward disobedience. Indeed, protective jealousy is the best safeguard. Allah the Almighty says: And if an evil suggestion from Satan should come to you, then seek refuge in Allah. Seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. And the whisperings of Satan. A name for the movement. which is caused by the rider of the mount If he intends to move it. It is as if the devil He has made of the sinner a beast of burden. And he mounted it to carry out what he intended. And may Allah be pleased with ‘Umar. 'Umar And what could possibly convey to you the true stature of 'Umar? ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him. Where the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, describes him. peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, by his saying If Ibn al-Khattab were to travel a path, Which path Then the devil would surely take a path other than his. It was recorded by al-Bukhari. As for the various types of protective jealousy (ghirah), The greatest of these is the jealousy of Allah. Majestic is He in His highness. And from His—glory be to Him—sense of protective jealousy, His protective jealousy for His Book. The One who revealed it. So that it may be the methodology that governs his character. For it is the methodology of Allah. He is free from ignorance, injustice, and partiality. These are prominent characteristics. Regarding the methodologies of mankind. So, when the servants turn away from His methodology. Allah is jealous for the sake of His Book. Thus, wretchedness was decreed for him. And the state of instability. For every dissenter. “But he who turneth away from remembrance of Me, his will be a narrow life, and I shall bring him blind to the assembly on the Day of Resurrection.” (20:124) “But he who turneth away from remembrance of Me, his will be a narrow life, and I shall bring him blind to the assembly on the Day of Resurrection.” (20:124) And among the manifestations of His divine jealousy—glory be to Him— His protective jealousy regarding the sanctity of his household. And everything that Allah has forbidden He fell into his protection. Thus, it is not permissible for anyone That he might fall into it. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: Know that every king has a sanctuary. Beware, for the boundaries set by Allah are His prohibitions. Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. Among the various forms of protective jealousy, O servants of Allah, is also... From His—glory be to Him—divine jealousy. His protective jealousy for His allies. When they are harmed. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, says: Whoever shows hostility to a friend of Mine, I have declared war upon him. For I have declared war upon him. It was recorded by al-Bukhari. Another form of protective jealousy also includes The protective jealousy of the believer. The true believer. He views matters with insight. By the grace of Allah. Just as He, glory be to Him, has said: They see it as distant. And we see it to be near. Ibn Kathir, may Allah have mercy on him, said: That is Allah. And the believers shall witness the Day of Resurrection. Soon. In reality. He does not lag behind. The believer detests what Allah detests. And he is gladdened by what pleases Allah. Furthermore, there is also the sense of protective jealousy (ghirah) of the believer. regarding the sacred limits set by Allah Our mother says The Mother of the Believers, ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her. May Allah be pleased with her. And from the standing of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, for his own sake. unless the sacred boundaries of Allah are violated. Through it, He exacts retribution for the sake of Allah. It was recorded by al-Bukhari. And Muslim Then, his protective jealousy for his family. The dayyuth (the man who lacks protective jealousy over his family) is thus the one who permits indecency among his household. He is the one who possesses no protective jealousy. regarding his honor and his family. He is deprived of Paradise. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: The cuckold shall not enter Paradise. It was recorded by Ahmad. And the man He is the primary person responsible for his household. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: Each of you is a shepherd. And each of you is responsible for those under your care. For the man is a shepherd. regarding his family, and he is responsible for them. regarding his subjects, and he commands them He said, regarding obedience to Allah: The Exalted, regarding Isma'il, peace be upon him. He used to command Encourage his family to perform the prayer. And the zakat. And he was in the presence of well-pleased with his Lord, and He is well-pleased with him. He warns them. From every action. He who errs should be corrected with purposeful words. The goodly [word or land] was mentioned. One of the wives of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. A woman was mentioned. In which there is a deficiency. So the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: I have indeed spoken a word. If it were mixed with the water of the sea, it would permeate it. It was narrated by Abu Dawud, and I would have blended it. And any [man] who corrects his spouse. Concepts must be verified. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, with a sheep. And keep the shoulder. 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said: It has all passed away. except for her shoulder. So he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: Rather, it all remained. except for her shoulder It was recorded by al-Tirmidhi. And that they both cooperate in acts of obedience. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: When a man rises in the night for prayer And he would awaken his family. Then, perform two rak'ahs. They are recorded with Allah among those who remember Him much. Allah has narrated many of them. And the women who remember Allah often. It was recorded by Abu Dawud. We ask Allah to rectify our affairs. and our descendants And our spouses Indeed, He has power over all things. May Allah bless me and you through the Magnificent Qur'an. And may Allah benefit me and you through what it contains. “This (which) We recite unto thee is a revelation and a wise reminder.” (3:58) I say what you have heard. And seek the forgiveness of Allah for me and for yourselves. So seek His forgiveness. Indeed, He is the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful. There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah. And I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. To proceed: Servants of Allah Among the manifestations of a believer’s protective jealousy is also That his religion should be It is greater in His sight than his own family. And he married her. Allah the Almighty says: O you who have believed Indeed, among your spouses and your children are an enemy to you So beware of them. Regarding 'Abd al-Rahman. Ibn Malik al-Ashja'i And whenever he intended He stood up for the sake of jihad. His family and his sons. Soften their state in His presence. And they asked, "To whom [shall we turn]?" Will you leave us behind after you? They should show compassion for their condition, so he sits down. Then Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, revealed: This verse. O you who have believed Indeed, among your spouses and your children are an enemy to you They are a threat to you, so beware of them. After all of this, O servants of Allah We must understand Indeed, the scholars They established the five essential objectives. What must be preserved are one's religion, intellect, wealth, honor, and life; and they have said that all of these are a sacrifice for the sake of religion. So, let the energies of the intellect be employed, let wealth be spent, and let life be sacrificed for the sake of religion. Yet, O servants of Allah, jealousy does not mean that a man should be a tyrant, oppressive toward his family. No, the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "A believer can, through his good character, attain the rank of one who fasts and prays through the night." Narrated by Abu Dawud. And the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "A man may be recorded with Allah in the register of the oppressors, while he has no one under his authority except his own household." Narrated by Ibn Hibban. Rather, one should be wise in his conduct, for every situation has its appropriate response. The final remedy is cauterization, and a gradual approach to discipline is mandatory. Allah the Almighty says: "And those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance— [first] advise them; [then] advise them, and forsake them in bed, and [finally] discipline them." But if they obey you, seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand. We must not look at our wives from a dark perspective, for every human being has faults. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "No believing man should despise a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her traits, he may be pleased with another." Narrated by Muslim. The meaning of "should not despise" is that he should not hate her. Allah the Almighty says: "But perhaps you hate a thing..." “Warfare is ordained for you, though it is hateful unto you; but it may happen that ye hate a thing which is good for you, and it may happen that ye love a thing which is bad for you. Allah knoweth, ye know not.” (2:216) And you must know that she who accompanies you in your marital life is a human being with her own dignity, her own feelings, and a heart that beats with love and sensitivity. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "None of you should lash his wife like a slave, then have intercourse with her at the end of the day." That is a sign of coarseness and poor character. We ask Allah to rectify our intentions, our offspring, and our spouses, and to rectify our conditions and the conditions of the Muslims everywhere. O Allah, rectify the conditions of the Muslims. O Allah, rectify the conditions of the Muslims. O Allah, rectify the conditions of the Muslims everywhere. O Allah, O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, forgive our sins, conceal our faults, accept our repentance, and seal our deeds with righteousness. “And who say: Our Lord! Vouchsafe us comfort of our wives and of our offspring, and make us patterns for (all) those who ward off (evil).” (25:74) And make our offspring a comfort to our eyes, and make us leaders for the righteous. O Allah, guide us to the best of character, for none guides to its best except You, and turn away from us its evil, for none turns away its evil except You. Make us blessed in what You have given us, and make us blessed wherever we may be. Grant us blessing in everything. O Allah, adorn us with Your beautiful covering, and place beneath that covering righteous deeds that You are pleased with. O Allah, forgive our fathers, our mothers, our brothers, our sisters, and all the Muslims. O Allah, whoever among them is alive, O Allah, grant them health and wellness in obedience to You. And whoever among them is dead, O Allah, reward their good deeds with further goodness, and overlook their bad deeds with pardon and forgiveness. Our Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought us up when we were small. O Allah, we ask You for Your pleasure and Paradise, and we seek refuge in You from Your wrath and the Fire. O Allah, lift this epidemic from us. O Allah, lift this epidemic from us. O Allah, lift this epidemic from us, and from the lands of the Muslims, and from the entire world. Keep us in Your protection, Your safety, and Your guarantee. Preserve us with Your preservation, and encompass us with Your care. O Allah, grant us security in our homes and dwellings, protect those in authority, expand our chests, and illuminate our graves after we depart this world. O Allah, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor, conclude our lives with goodness, and make the outcomes of our affairs lead to good, and make us keys to all that is good. O Allah, we have called upon You in our distress, just as You commanded us, so answer us just as You promised us. O Allah, send peace, blessings, and increase upon Your servant and Messenger, Muhammad, and upon all his family and companions. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
