In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
A Concise Summary of the Prophetic biography (Seerah).
The reconstruction of the Ka'bah.
The Quraysh intended to rebuild the Ka'bah.
This was due to the structural weakness that had afflicted its walls.
This took place five years before the mission of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, was thirty-five years old at the time.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, participated with his people in its construction.
The two Shaykhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim) narrated in their Sahih collections.
On the authority of Jabir Ibn 'Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with them both, who said:
That the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
Was carrying stones for the Ka'bah along with them.
He was wearing his lower garment (izar).
His uncle, al-'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said to him:
"O son of my brother,
If you were to loosen your garment and place it over your shoulder to cushion the stones, it would be better."
He said:
So he loosened it and placed it over his shoulder.
He then fell down unconscious.
He said:
And he was never seen naked after that day.
In another narration in the two Sahih collections,
Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, said:
When the Ka'bah was being built,
The Prophet, peace be upon him, went,
And al-'Abbas was carrying stones with him.
Al-'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said to the Prophet, peace be upon him:
"Place your garment over your neck."
He then fell to the ground,
And his eyes were fixed toward the sky.
He said:
"Return my garment to me."
Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar stated in al-Fath:
This hadith indicates that he, peace be upon him,
Was protected from anything unseemly, both before and after his mission.
It also contains a prohibition against being naked in the presence of others.
