Established Prophetic Sunnahs:
*Tahnik* (rubbing the newborn's palate)
On the authority of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
"A boy was born to me,
so I brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
He named him Ibrahim,
perform *tahnik* on him with a date,
and supplicated for blessings upon him."
The hadith.
Agreed upon [by al-Bukhari and Muslim].
*Tahnik*
is chewing a sweet food
and rubbing it across the palate inside the newborn's mouth.
It is best that this *tahnik* be done with a date.
