Solve this riddle: Who am I?
I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
I embraced Islam in the seventh year of the Hijrah.
I was a man of great wealth during the Age of Ignorance.
I owned the mines of Banu Sulaym.
I was the first to send my zakat to the Prophet, peace be upon him, from those mines.
I did so willingly and with a clear conscience.
I also gifted the Prophet, peace be upon him,
my sword, known as Dhu al-Fiqar.
I witnessed the conquest of Khaybar with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
After the battle, I said, "O Messenger of Allah,
I have wealth scattered in Makkah with various merchants,
and other wealth with my wife.
I fear that if they learn of my Islam,
they will seize my wealth."
"So, permit me to go to them, perhaps I can recover it from them."
He granted me permission.
Then I said, "O Messenger of Allah,
I must say something to them that will satisfy them so they will help me collect it."
He, peace be upon him, replied,
"Say whatever you wish; you are permitted to do so."
So I set out, heading toward Makkah.
When I reached a place near the city,
I encountered a group from Quraysh who were scouting for news.
When they saw me, they said,
"This man has the news."
I said to them,
"Muhammad has suffered the most terrible defeat you have ever heard of."
"His Companions have been killed,"
"and Muhammad has been taken prisoner."
"The Jews said,"
"'We will not kill him until we send him to the people of Makkah,'"
"'so that he may be executed among them in retaliation for the men of theirs who were killed.'"
Then we went to Makkah together.
They shouted in Makkah, saying,
"This man has come to you with the news!"
"Muhammad has been taken prisoner,"
"and you are only waiting for him to be brought to you,"
"so that he may be executed in your midst."
Then I said to them,
"Help me collect my wealth,"
"for I intend to return to Khaybar,"
"to buy what I can from the spoils taken from Muhammad,"
"before the merchants get there."
They gathered my wealth for me as quickly as possible.
I said to my wife,
"Give me my wealth,"
"perhaps I can catch up and profit from the sales."
So she handed over my wealth.
When the news of this reached Makkah,
the Muslims were devastated.
Al-'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, became broken and distressed,
unable to even stand.
He sent his servant to me to inquire about the truth of the news.
I said to the servant,
"Give my greetings to Abu al-Fadl,"
"and tell him,"
"'Find a private place in one of your homes so I may come to you.'"
The servant went to him,
and informed him of what I had said.
Al-'Abbas rushed to me, overjoyed,
to the point that he kissed me between the eyes and freed his servant.
I met with Al-'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him,
and I said to him,
"Rejoice in what will please you."
"By Allah, I left your nephew,"
"and Allah has granted him victory at Khaybar,"
"and those of its people who were to be killed have been killed,"
"and its wealth has become his,"
"and his Companions'."
"I left him as a bridegroom to the daughter of their king."
"I have embraced Islam,"
"and I only came to retrieve my wealth,"
"then I will return to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him."
"Keep this news secret for three days,"
"for I fear they might pursue me."
"After that, say whatever you like."
Then I bade him farewell and left Makkah.
When the third day arrived,
Al-'Abbas put on an expensive garment,
perfumed himself,
took his staff,
and went out to the Mosque.
He touched the Black Stone.
Some men from Quraysh looked at him,
and said,
"O Abu al-Fadl,"
"by Allah, this is true fortitude in the face of a bitter tragedy!"
He replied,
"No, by Allah,"
"but Muhammad has conquered Khaybar,"
"and it has become his and his Companions',"
"and he has become a bridegroom to the daughter of their king."
They said,
"Who told you this news?"
He said,
"The one who told you that he had been defeated and taken prisoner."
"The man has embraced Islam,"
"and has followed Muhammad in his religion,"
"and he only came to take his wealth,"
"then he will return to him."
They said,
"The enemy of Allah has deceived us!"
"By Allah, had we known,"
"we would have dealt with him differently."
It was not long before the certain news reached them,
of the conquest of Khaybar and the victory of the Muslims.
