Lo! Allah is Hearer, Seer.” (22:75) 00:00:33.640 --> 00:00:36.640 Indeed, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing. 00:00:36.640 --> 00:00:38.700 And He says: 00:00:38.700 --> 00:00:46.960 “Lo! Allah preferred Adam and Noah and the Family of Abraham and the Family of 'Imran above (all His) creatures.” (3:33) 00:00:46.960 --> 00:00:52.960 Among those whom Allah the Almighty selected and favored over all the worlds 00:00:52.960 --> 00:00:54.960 is Maryam, daughter of ‘Imran, peace be upon her. 00:00:54.960 --> 00:00:56.960 Allah the Exalted says: 00:00:56.960 --> 00:01:00.960 “And when the angels said: O Mary! Lo! Allah hath chosen thee and made thee pure, and hath preferred thee above (all) the women of creation.” (3:42) 00:01:01.000 --> 00:01:03.960 “And when the angels said: O Mary! Lo! Allah hath chosen thee and made thee pure, and hath preferred thee above (all) the women of creation.” (3:42) 00:01:08.180 --> 00:01:11.180 Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 00:01:11.180 --> 00:01:14.180 He chose you and selected you for His obedience, 00:01:14.180 --> 00:01:17.280 and for the honor He specifically bestowed upon you. 00:01:17.280 --> 00:01:20.280 Ibn Kathir, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 00:01:20.280 --> 00:01:22.280 This is an announcement from Allah the Exalted 00:01:22.280 --> 00:01:26.280 regarding what the angels said to Maryam, peace be upon her, 00:01:26.280 --> 00:01:29.280 concerning Allah’s command to them in that regard, 00:01:29.280 --> 00:01:31.280 that Allah had selected her— 00:01:31.280 --> 00:01:36.280 meaning, He chose her for her abundant worship, her asceticism, her nobility, 00:01:36.280 --> 00:01:40.280 and her purity from impurities and base whispers. 00:01:40.280 --> 00:01:44.280 He selected her a second time, again and again, 00:01:44.280 --> 00:01:48.439 due to her eminence over the women of the worlds. 00:01:48.439 --> 00:01:50.439 Al-Sa‘di, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 00:01:50.439 --> 00:01:52.439 The first selection 00:01:52.439 --> 00:01:57.439 refers to her praiseworthy qualities and righteous deeds. 00:01:57.439 --> 00:01:59.439 The second selection 00:01:59.439 --> 00:02:03.439 refers to favoring her over all other women of the worlds, 00:02:03.439 --> 00:02:08.439 whether over the women of her own time or absolutely. 00:02:08.439 --> 00:02:11.439 Even if other individual women shared in that [virtue], 00:02:11.439 --> 00:02:14.439 such as Khadijah, ‘Aishah, and Fatimah, 00:02:14.439 --> 00:02:17.439 it does not negate the aforementioned selection. 00:02:17.439 --> 00:02:21.659 Al-Tahir Ibn ‘Ashur, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 00:02:21.659 --> 00:02:23.659 The verb "selected you" is repeated 00:02:23.659 --> 00:02:26.659 because the first selection is an essential selection, 00:02:26.659 --> 00:02:30.659 which is making her pure and refined, 00:02:30.659 --> 00:02:33.659 while the second signifies favoring her over others. 00:02:33.659 --> 00:02:37.659 Therefore, the first was not linked to an object, 00:02:37.659 --> 00:02:39.659 while the second was. 00:02:39.659 --> 00:02:43.659 "Women of the worlds" refers to the women of her time, 00:02:43.659 --> 00:02:46.659 or the women of all eras. 00:02:46.659 --> 00:02:49.979 Thus, the first selection of Maryam, peace be upon her, 00:02:49.979 --> 00:02:56.979 refers to the praiseworthy qualities and righteous deeds she possessed. 00:02:56.979 --> 00:03:03.979 These are qualities that every ambitious young woman who loves Maryam, peace be upon her, 00:03:03.979 --> 00:03:05.979 can emulate. 00:03:05.979 --> 00:03:10.979 Such as emulating her in her worship and sincerity to Allah, 00:03:10.979 --> 00:03:16.139 and emulating her in her modesty, chastity, and self-restraint. 00:03:16.139 --> 00:03:18.139 Allah, glory be to Him and the Exalted, 00:03:18.139 --> 00:03:22.210 has selected this Ummah over all other nations. 00:03:22.210 --> 00:03:28.210 So everyone who believes in Allah and what He revealed to His Messenger, peace be upon him, 00:03:28.210 --> 00:03:31.240 is included in this selection. 00:03:31.240 --> 00:03:33.500 Allah the Exalted says: 00:03:33.500 --> 00:03:41.500 “Then We gave the Scripture as inheritance unto those whom We elected of Our bondmen. But of them are some who wrong themselves and of them are some who are lukewarm, and of them are some who outstrip (others) through good deeds, by Allah's leave. That is the great favour!” (35:32) 00:03:41.500 --> 00:03:44.500 Among them is one who wrongs himself, 00:03:44.500 --> 00:03:47.500 and among them is one who is moderate, 00:03:47.500 --> 00:03:54.500 “Then We gave the Scripture as inheritance unto those whom We elected of Our bondmen. But of them are some who wrong themselves and of them are some who are lukewarm, and of them are some who outstrip (others) through good deeds, by Allah's leave. But of them are some who wrong themselves and of them are some who are lukewarm, and of them are some who outstrip (others) through good deeds, by Allah's leave. That is the great favour!” (35:32) 00:04:15.039 --> 00:04:19.040 then He divided them into three types, 00:04:19.040 --> 00:04:21.040 and said: 00:04:21.040 --> 00:04:23.040 "Among them is one who wrongs himself," 00:04:23.040 --> 00:04:29.040 who is the one negligent in performing obligatory duties and commits some forbidden acts; 00:04:29.040 --> 00:04:31.040 "and among them is one who is moderate," 00:04:31.040 --> 00:04:36.040 who is the one who performs the obligatory duties and avoids the forbidden acts, 00:04:36.040 --> 00:04:39.040 though he may omit some recommended acts, 00:04:39.040 --> 00:04:42.040 and performs some obligatory ones; 00:04:42.040 --> 00:04:44.040 he omits some recommended acts, 00:04:44.040 --> 00:04:47.040 and commits some disliked acts; 00:04:47.040 --> 00:04:51.040 “Then We gave the Scripture as inheritance unto those whom We elected of Our bondmen. But of them are some who wrong themselves and of them are some who are lukewarm, and of them are some who outstrip (others) through good deeds, by Allah's leave. That is the great favour!” (35:32) 00:04:51.040 --> 00:04:55.040 and he is the one who performs the obligatory and recommended acts, 00:04:55.040 --> 00:05:00.259 and avoids the forbidden, the disliked, and some permissible things. 00:05:00.259 --> 00:05:03.259 So, you, O ambitious believing young woman, 00:05:03.259 --> 00:05:06.490 which of the three ranks are you in? 00:05:06.490 --> 00:05:09.490 Maryam attained the first rank, 00:05:09.490 --> 00:05:12.490 which is racing to good deeds, 00:05:12.490 --> 00:05:15.490 due to her constant devotion to worship. 00:05:15.490 --> 00:05:18.490 So Allah the Almighty selected her. 00:05:18.490 --> 00:05:22.490 If you wish to attain the rank of those who race to good deeds, 00:05:22.490 --> 00:05:29.490 then apply what Ustadh Muhammad Rashid Rida, may Allah have mercy on him, said in explaining the third rank. 00:05:29.490 --> 00:05:31.490 He said: 00:05:31.490 --> 00:05:33.490 The one who wrongs himself 00:05:33.490 --> 00:05:35.490 is the one who falls short in following the Book, 00:05:35.490 --> 00:05:38.490 even if by omitting some virtues. 00:05:38.490 --> 00:05:39.490 The moderate one 00:05:39.490 --> 00:05:41.490 is the one who avoids what is forbidden, 00:05:41.490 --> 00:05:46.490 and performs what is commanded of obligatory duties limited to himself. 00:05:46.490 --> 00:05:49.550 And the one who races to good deeds 00:05:49.550 --> 00:05:52.550 is the one who increases in drawing near to Allah through supererogatory acts, 00:05:52.550 --> 00:05:54.550 perfecting himself with virtues, 00:05:54.550 --> 00:05:57.550 combining learning and teaching, 00:05:57.550 --> 00:05:59.550 and being refined and refining others, 00:05:59.550 --> 00:06:02.550 until he becomes a leader for the righteous. 00:06:02.550 --> 00:06:08.550 This is the rank of those brought near, the witnesses of Allah and the truthful. 00:06:08.550 --> 00:06:14.550 What precedes it is the rank of the righteous, the pious, the people of the right hand. 00:06:14.550 --> 00:06:16.550 As for the second selection, 00:06:16.550 --> 00:06:19.550 which is favoring her over the women of the worlds, 00:06:19.550 --> 00:06:24.550 it has come in a hadith of Abu Musa, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: 00:06:24.550 --> 00:06:28.550 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: 00:06:28.550 --> 00:06:30.550 "Many men have attained perfection, 00:06:30.550 --> 00:06:32.550 but none among women have attained perfection 00:06:32.550 --> 00:06:35.550 except Asiyah, the wife of Pharaoh, 00:06:35.550 --> 00:06:37.550 and Maryam, daughter of ‘Imran. 00:06:37.550 --> 00:06:40.550 And the superiority of ‘Aishah over women 00:06:40.550 --> 00:06:44.550 is like the superiority of tharid over all other food." 00:06:44.550 --> 00:06:46.550 Narrated by al-Bukhari. 00:06:46.550 --> 00:06:51.740 And from ‘Ali Ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: 00:06:51.740 --> 00:06:55.740 I heard the Prophet, peace be upon him, say: 00:06:55.740 --> 00:06:58.740 "The best of its women is Maryam, daughter of ‘Imran, 00:06:58.740 --> 00:07:01.740 and the best of its women is Khadijah." 00:07:01.740 --> 00:07:03.740 Narrated by al-Bukhari. 00:07:03.740 --> 00:07:06.899 And from Anas, may Allah be pleased with him: 00:07:06.899 --> 00:07:10.899 That the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: 00:07:10.899 --> 00:07:13.899 "Sufficient for you among the women of the worlds are: 00:07:13.899 --> 00:07:15.899 Maryam, daughter of ‘Imran, 00:07:15.899 --> 00:07:17.899 Khadijah, daughter of Khuwaylid, 00:07:17.899 --> 00:07:20.899 Fatimah, daughter of Muhammad, 00:07:20.899 --> 00:07:23.899 and Asiyah, the wife of Pharaoh." 00:07:23.899 --> 00:07:25.899 Narrated by al-Tirmidhi. 00:07:25.899 --> 00:07:34.160 These hadiths indicate the high rank of Maryam, peace be upon her, over the women of the worlds. 00:07:34.160 --> 00:07:37.350 Ibn Battal, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 00:07:37.350 --> 00:07:38.350 His saying: 00:07:38.350 --> 00:07:41.350 “And when the angels said: O Mary! Lo!
