Linguistically, the term 'aqidah is derived from the concepts of binding, strengthening, solidifying, and tying firmly.
In Islamic terminology, 'aqidah refers to the firm conviction that admits no doubt in the heart of the believer.
Thus, Islamic creed is that which the heart is bound to in terms of belief and affirmation of Allah, the Exalted, His oneness, and the obligation to obey Him.
It also includes belief in His angels, His scriptures, His messengers, the Last Day, and the divine decree.
These are the six pillars of faith.
Also included under the scope of creed are issues pertaining to faith, disbelief, hypocrisy, and the concepts of loyalty and disavowal.
