Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, said:

“O ye who believe! Render not vain your almsgiving by reproach and injury, like him who spendeth his wealth only to be seen of men and believeth not in Allah and the Last Day. His likeness is as the likeness of a rock whereon is dust of earth; a rainstorm smiteth it, leaving it smooth and bare. They have no control of aught of that which they have gained. Allah guideth not the disbelieving folk.” (2:264)

They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is hidden shirk?"

"A man stands up to pray,

and beautifies his prayer because he notices people looking at him.

That is hidden shirk."

A point of benefit:

Indeed, the ostentatious person who spends his wealth to be seen by others,

and prays to be seen by others,

is truly a wretched soul.

For he exerts effort and gives away wealth

00:01:38.459 --> 00:01:41.459
merely to hear a word of praise from people,

00:01:41.459 --> 00:01:44.459
or to catch an admiring glance from them.

00:01:44.459 --> 00:01:47.459
And Allah, Exalted is His Majesty, is perfectly Just,

00:01:47.459 --> 00:01:50.459
so He will not deprive him of that;

00:01:50.459 --> 00:01:53.459
rather, He will let him hear the praise from those he sought it from,

00:01:53.459 --> 00:01:55.459
as it has been said,

00:01:55.459 --> 00:01:57.459
but when he meets Allah,

00:01:57.459 --> 00:02:01.459
he will not find a single thing from his good deeds.
