Some of them have paid their vow by death (in battle), and some of them still are waiting; and they have not altered in the least;” (33:23) 00:01:03.469 --> 00:01:11.469 “Of the believers are men who are true to that which they covenanted with Allah. Some of them have paid their vow by death (in battle), and some of them still are waiting; and they have not altered in the least;” (33:23) 00:01:11.469 --> 00:01:15.730 And they did not alter [their commitment] by any alteration. 00:01:15.730 --> 00:01:19.730 A strong Ummah does not rise except through its men. 00:01:19.730 --> 00:01:22.730 And it does not progress except through their efforts. 00:01:22.730 --> 00:01:25.760 Whoever looks at the pages of history, 00:01:25.760 --> 00:01:28.760 will find men and names like mountain peaks. 00:01:28.760 --> 00:01:33.790 So what is it that creates men, and what is it that immortalizes their memory? 00:01:33.790 --> 00:01:36.920 It is action and sacrifice. 00:01:36.920 --> 00:01:41.920 And the greater the action and the more magnificent the sacrifice, 00:01:41.920 --> 00:01:44.920 the more the name shines and its bearer becomes renowned. 00:01:44.920 --> 00:01:47.920 He dies, but his memory does not. 00:01:47.920 --> 00:01:49.920 He lives on through his words and his deeds. 00:01:49.920 --> 00:01:53.920 And generations echo his work throughout history. 00:01:53.920 --> 00:01:56.920 How many a martyr does history still remember? 00:01:56.920 --> 00:02:00.920 And how many a mujahid do generations still remember? 00:02:00.920 --> 00:02:04.920 And how many a scholar does knowledge still adorn? 00:02:04.920 --> 00:02:08.919 And how many a ruler do the people still glorify? 00:02:08.919 --> 00:02:11.110 They have all died, 00:02:11.110 --> 00:02:15.110 but they remain through their work, their knowledge, and their sacrifices. 00:02:15.110 --> 00:02:19.210 However, in certain periods of history, 00:02:19.210 --> 00:02:21.210 nations may be afflicted with barrenness. 00:02:21.210 --> 00:02:24.210 No men are born, 00:02:24.210 --> 00:02:28.210 or if they are born, there is a barrenness in giving and in production. 00:02:28.210 --> 00:02:30.270 And if I were to wish, 00:02:30.270 --> 00:02:33.270 I would wish for men who create greatness, 00:02:33.270 --> 00:02:36.270 like Abu 'Ubaydah, may Allah be pleased with him. 00:02:36.270 --> 00:02:40.300 For it is narrated that 'Umar Ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, 00:02:40.300 --> 00:02:43.300 said to his Companions one day, "Make a wish." 00:02:43.300 --> 00:02:45.300 One of them said, 00:02:45.300 --> 00:02:49.300 "I wish that this house were filled with gold, 00:02:49.300 --> 00:02:53.300 so that I could spend it in the cause of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic." 00:02:53.300 --> 00:02:55.370 He said, "Make a wish." 00:02:55.370 --> 00:02:57.460 Another man said, 00:02:57.460 --> 00:03:02.460 "I wish that it were filled with pearls, chrysolite, and jewels, 00:03:02.460 --> 00:03:05.460 so that I could spend it in the cause of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic." 00:03:05.460 --> 00:03:07.500 Then he said, "Make a wish." 00:03:07.500 --> 00:03:12.500 They replied, "We do not know what to say, O Commander of the Faithful." 00:03:12.500 --> 00:03:14.500 So 'Umar said, 00:03:14.500 --> 00:03:17.500 "But I wish that this house 00:03:17.500 --> 00:03:22.500 were filled with men like Abu 'Ubaydah Ibn al-Jarrah." 00:03:22.500 --> 00:03:25.620 For men are the pillars of construction. 00:03:25.620 --> 00:03:28.620 Through their strength, the structure rises and flourishes. 00:03:28.620 --> 00:03:32.620 And through their weakness, the structure cracks and collapses. 00:03:32.620 --> 00:03:37.620 And a man is more precious than gold, pearls, and all jewels combined. 00:03:37.620 --> 00:03:38.620 So today, 00:03:38.620 --> 00:03:41.620 the Ummah, in its revival, is in need 00:03:41.620 --> 00:03:46.620 of men raised in a school like the school of Prophethood, 00:03:46.620 --> 00:03:49.620 and in a house like the house of al-Arqam Ibn Abi al-Arqam. 00:03:49.620 --> 00:03:51.689 And the Ummah today 00:03:51.689 --> 00:03:57.689 needs callers who graduate from the school of Muhammad, peace be upon him. 00:03:57.689 --> 00:04:01.689 Its foundation is knowledge, moderation, and justice. 00:04:01.689 --> 00:04:03.689 And the Ummah today 00:04:03.689 --> 00:04:07.689 is in need of such men. 00:04:07.689 --> 00:04:09.689 So where are they? 00:04:12.620 --> 00:04:19.620 By Allah, happiness pours into the hearts. 00:04:19.620 --> 00:04:23.620 Increase your closeness to the Most Merciful, 00:04:23.620 --> 00:04:27.620 so that joy may embrace you. 00:04:27.620 --> 00:04:35.620 Attach your soul to your Lord and fill the horizons with light. 00:04:35.620 --> 00:04:39.620 Everyone who obeys the Lord 00:04:39.620 --> 00:04:43.810 dissolves into the sweetest feeling. 00:04:43.810 --> 00:04:47.810 For there is darkness, then light. 00:04:47.810 --> 00:04:51.810 And life after it. 00:04:51.810 --> 00:04:59.810 If Allah wills a thing, He says to it, "Be," and it is.
