I? 00:00:16.460 --> 00:00:26.339 I am one of the Companions from the Ansar and one of the leaders present on the night of al-'Aqabah. 00:00:26.339 --> 00:00:29.600 I embraced Islam because of a woman. 00:00:29.600 --> 00:00:34.600 I had proposed to Umm Sulaym after the death of her husband. 00:00:34.600 --> 00:00:38.600 She said, "A man like you cannot be turned away." 00:00:38.600 --> 00:00:41.630 "But you are a disbeliever." 00:00:41.630 --> 00:00:44.630 "If you embrace Islam, I will be pleased to have you as a husband." 00:00:44.630 --> 00:00:47.630 "I will make your Islam my dowry." 00:00:47.630 --> 00:00:51.630 So I embraced Islam, and then I married her. 00:00:51.630 --> 00:00:54.630 The Muslims used to say, 00:00:54.630 --> 00:00:56.630 "We have never heard of a dowry," 00:00:56.630 --> 00:00:59.630 "more noble than the dowry of Umm Sulaym." 00:00:59.630 --> 00:01:02.630 For she made her dowry the acceptance of Islam. 00:01:02.630 --> 00:01:05.500 Then, one day, 00:01:05.500 --> 00:01:07.500 a son of ours fell ill. 00:01:07.500 --> 00:01:09.500 I went out to attend to some of my needs, 00:01:09.500 --> 00:01:11.500 and the boy passed away. 00:01:11.500 --> 00:01:13.560 When I returned, 00:01:13.560 --> 00:01:15.560 I asked, "What has become of the boy?" 00:01:15.560 --> 00:01:18.560 My wife, Umm Sulaym, replied, 00:01:18.560 --> 00:01:21.560 "He is quieter than he was before." 00:01:21.560 --> 00:01:23.560 She then brought me my dinner, 00:01:23.560 --> 00:01:25.560 and I ate. 00:01:25.560 --> 00:01:27.560 Then I was intimate with her. 00:01:27.560 --> 00:01:29.560 When I had finished, 00:01:29.560 --> 00:01:32.560 she asked, "What do you think of a family," 00:01:32.560 --> 00:01:35.560 "who were lent something," 00:01:35.560 --> 00:01:37.560 "by another family?" 00:01:37.560 --> 00:01:39.560 "When the owners asked for their loan back," 00:01:39.560 --> 00:01:41.560 "they refused to return it." 00:01:41.560 --> 00:01:44.560 I said, "That is not right for them to do." 00:01:44.560 --> 00:01:47.560 She said, "Well, your son," 00:01:47.560 --> 00:01:50.560 "was a loan from Allah the Exalted." 00:01:50.560 --> 00:01:52.560 "He let you enjoy him for as long as He willed," 00:01:53.560 --> 00:01:55.560 "and He took him back when He willed." 00:01:55.560 --> 00:01:58.689 This weighed heavily upon my soul. 00:01:58.689 --> 00:02:00.689 When morning came, 00:02:00.689 --> 00:02:03.689 I went to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:02:03.689 --> 00:02:07.689 and informed him of what my wife, Umm Sulaym, had done. 00:02:07.689 --> 00:02:10.689 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, 00:02:10.689 --> 00:02:12.689 "Did you consummate your marriage last night?" 00:02:12.689 --> 00:02:14.689 I said, "Yes." 00:02:14.689 --> 00:02:16.689 He said, "May Allah," 00:02:16.689 --> 00:02:18.689 "bless you both," 00:02:18.689 --> 00:02:20.689 "in your night." 00:02:20.689 --> 00:02:23.750 Allah then blessed me with nine children, 00:02:23.750 --> 00:02:26.750 all of whom had memorized the Qur'an. 00:02:26.750 --> 00:02:30.460 One day, I said to Umm Sulaym, 00:02:30.460 --> 00:02:35.460 "I heard the voice of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, sounding weak," 00:02:35.460 --> 00:02:38.460 "and I could detect hunger in it." 00:02:38.460 --> 00:02:40.460 "Do you have anything?" 00:02:40.460 --> 00:02:42.460 She said, "Yes." 00:02:42.460 --> 00:02:45.460 She brought out some barley loaves, 00:02:45.460 --> 00:02:47.460 and prepared some bread. 00:02:47.460 --> 00:02:51.460 Then I went to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, 00:02:51.460 --> 00:02:55.460 and found him in the mosque with people around him. 00:02:55.460 --> 00:02:58.460 I said to him, "O Messenger of Allah," 00:02:58.460 --> 00:03:00.460 "I have prepared some food for you." 00:03:00.460 --> 00:03:05.460 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said to those with him, 00:03:05.460 --> 00:03:06.460 "Rise." 00:03:06.460 --> 00:03:09.460 He set off, and I walked ahead of them, 00:03:09.460 --> 00:03:12.460 until I reached Umm Sulaym. 00:03:12.460 --> 00:03:13.460 I said to her, 00:03:13.460 --> 00:03:18.460 "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and the people have come," 00:03:18.460 --> 00:03:21.460 "and we do not have enough to feed them all." 00:03:21.460 --> 00:03:22.460 She said, 00:03:22.460 --> 00:03:25.460 "Allah and His Messenger know best." 00:03:25.460 --> 00:03:29.490 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, arrived, 00:03:29.490 --> 00:03:31.490 and said, 00:03:31.490 --> 00:03:34.490 "Bring what you have, Umm Sulaym." 00:03:34.490 --> 00:03:37.490 She brought him that bread. 00:03:37.490 --> 00:03:40.490 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, prayed over it. 00:03:41.490 --> 00:03:45.490 Then he said to me, 00:03:45.490 --> 00:03:48.490 "Give permission for ten men to enter." 00:03:48.490 --> 00:03:50.490 I gave them permission. 00:03:50.490 --> 00:03:54.490 They ate until they were full and then left. 00:03:54.490 --> 00:03:55.490 Then he said, 00:03:55.490 --> 00:03:58.490 "Give permission for ten more." 00:03:58.490 --> 00:04:00.490 I gave them permission. 00:04:00.490 --> 00:04:03.490 They ate until they were full and then left. 00:04:03.490 --> 00:04:05.490 And so it continued, 00:04:05.490 --> 00:04:08.490 until all the people had eaten. 00:04:08.490 --> 00:04:12.490 The group consisted of seventy or eighty men. 00:04:12.490 --> 00:04:17.319 After the passing of the Messenger, peace be upon
