In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The story of our mother Hawwa (Eve).
O Hawwa.
They are calling you toward misery.
O Hawwa.
You are living in a great blessing.
When you hold fast to the law of the Lord of the worlds.
A great blessing.
It is the paradise of this world.
And its reward is the paradise of the Hereafter.
For through your guidance and your steadfastness upon the truth.
You live in two paradises.
The first is what your heart feels most deeply.
And what brings happiness to your soul.
Even if your body grows weary.
And the second is a bliss that cannot be described and never ceases.
And none shall enjoy it except those who truly lived the first paradise.
Upon steadfastness and guidance.
Yet the bliss in which you live.
Does not please your enemies who live in psychological misery.
And who do not know the meaning of happiness.
Nor do they know the meaning of the beauty of living with the Most Merciful.
Those who do not prostrate to Allah.
And do not submit themselves to the commands of Allah.
Slaves of desire and the devil.
Therefore, the bliss you are in will disturb them.
And the purity you enjoy will enrage them.
So they will strive to destroy your life.
And end your happiness.
By casting you into misery.
Through their lies and their deception.
And their distortion of facts.
Just as their leader, Iblis, did.
Allah the Almighty said:
“Therefor we said: O Adam! This is an enemy unto thee and unto thy wife, so let him not drive you both out of the Garden so that thou come to toil.” (20:117)
“Therefor we said: O Adam! This is an enemy unto thee and unto thy wife, so let him not drive you both out of the Garden so that thou come to toil.” (20:117)
"...so that you may suffer."
“It is (vouchsafed) unto thee that thou hungerest not therein nor art naked,” (20:118)
“And that thou thirstest not therein nor art exposed to the sun's heat.” (20:119)
"Then the devil whispered to him..."
“But the devil whispered to him, saying: O Adam! Shall I show thee the tree of immortality and power that wasteth not away?” (20:120)
"...and a kingdom that does not decay."
Al-Tahir ibn 'Ashur, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
"He began by mentioning the object of his enmity toward Adam."
"Because Adam is the one who sparked the devil's enmity due to his envy."
"Then he followed it by mentioning his wife."
"Because his enmity toward her is a consequence of his enmity toward Adam, her husband."
"And his enmity was directed at both of them."
"Due to the unity of the cause of the enmity."
"Which is his envy of them for what Allah bestowed upon them of the knowledge of names."
"Which is the hallmark of the intellect that leads to guidance."
"And the hallmark of expressing the conscience that leads to instruction."
"And all of that is what invalidates the work of the devil."
"And makes it difficult for him to seduce them and seduce their descendants."
"And because the devil saw himself as more worthy of preference over Adam."
"So he became enraged when he was commanded to prostrate to Adam."
Yes, O Hawwa.
It is the envy that has torn their hearts apart.
And it is from the mercy of Allah the Almighty toward you that He made you aware of your enemy.
So that you are not deceived by him.
And fall into his snares without realizing it.
Sayyid Qutb, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
"This was a form of care and protection from Allah."
"To alert Adam to his enemy and warn him of his treachery."
"Following his rebellion and disobedience."
"And his refusal to prostrate to Adam as his Lord commanded him."
They, O Hawwa.
Come to you in the guise of advising you and defending your rights.
And seeking your freedom.
While in reality, they are liars and envious.
Following the path of their leader, Iblis.
Who taught them corruption on earth.
And the distortion of facts.
“But the devil whispered to him, saying: O Adam! Shall I show thee the tree of immortality and power that wasteth not away?” (20:120)
Al-Sa'di, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
"He came to him in the form of an advisor."
"And spoke to him with gentleness."
"So Adam was deceived by him."
"And ate from the tree."
"Then they were both exposed."
"And their covering fell away."
"And their disobedience became clear."
"And each of them began to see the private parts of the other."
After they had been covered.
And they began to fasten together leaves from the trees of Paradise to cover themselves.
And they were overcome with a shame that only Allah knows.
And Allah the Almighty.
Warned our father Adam and our mother Hawwa against obeying the devil, which leads to misery.
So He said:
“Therefor we said: O Adam! This is an enemy unto thee and unto thy wife, so let him not drive you both out of the Garden so that thou come to toil.” (20:117)
“Therefor we said: O Adam! This is an enemy unto thee and unto thy wife, so let him not drive you both out of the Garden so that thou come to toil.” (20:117)
Then Allah the Almighty explained the misery that would befall them.
If they were expelled from Paradise.
So He said:
“It is (vouchsafed) unto thee that thou hungerest not therein nor art naked,” (20:118)
"And that you will not be hungry therein, nor naked. And that you will not suffer from thirst therein, nor from the sun's heat."
Al-Tahir ibn 'Ashur, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
"The sentence 'Indeed, it is [promised] for you not to be hungry therein nor naked'..."
"...is a justification for the misery resulting from the expulsion from Paradise, which was forbidden."
"Because since he was enjoying the luxury of life in Paradise."
"In terms of food, clothing, drink, and a moderate climate suitable for his temperament."
"Expulsion from it necessitated the loss of that."
And Al-Shinqiti, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
"His saying in this noble verse..."
"...'so that you may suffer'..."
"...means that you will toil in seeking a living through hardship and labor."
But reflect, O Hawwa.
That Allah the Almighty attributed the misery to Adam alone.
And did not attribute it to Hawwa.
So what is the secret in that?
Al-Tahir ibn 'Ashur, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
"He attributed the consequence of misery to Adam specifically, rather than his wife, for the sake of brevity."
"Because in the misery of one of the spouses is the misery of the other."
"Due to their interdependence in existence."
"With an indication that the man's misery is the root of the woman's misery."
"And also because what is required of Adam in this world..."
"...is to strive for the sake of Hawwa."
"Providing her with food, clothing, drink, and shelter."
Indeed, O Hawwa, Allah.
Honored you and raised your status.
By obligating Adam to spend on you, to strive, and to suffer for your sake.
While you are cherished and honored in your home.
But this situation does not please your enemies.
So they strive to drive you out of your home so that you may suffer in their world.
Then it becomes easy for them to reach you.
So do not respond to them.
And do not leave your paradise for their hell.
And even if circumstances force you to go out to toil and seek provision.
Do not abandon your dignity, your pride, and your religion.
For that which is with Allah is not attained through the disobedience of Allah.
We shall continue in a future meeting, if Allah wills.
And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
