00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:09.410
Our mother ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her.

00:00:09.410 --> 00:00:16.329
"O ‘A’ishah, if you are given something without having asked for it, then accept it."

00:00:16.329 --> 00:00:20.870
‘A’ishah, Mother of the Believers.

00:00:20.870 --> 00:00:26.670
A fruit of the upbringing the Prophet, peace be upon him, provided for his household.

00:00:26.699 --> 00:00:29.500
Whoever wishes to raise their household,

00:00:29.500 --> 00:00:32.700
cannot dispense with studying this model,

00:00:32.700 --> 00:00:37.590
which was nurtured by the hands of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

00:00:37.590 --> 00:00:41.789
Among the things that ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, was raised upon

00:00:41.789 --> 00:00:43.789
was returning to the truth,

00:00:43.789 --> 00:00:46.590
which is better than persisting in falsehood.

00:00:46.590 --> 00:00:51.590
This is a matter in which faith must overcome the self and its desires.

00:00:51.590 --> 00:00:55.590
Among the incidents in which this matter was manifested

00:00:55.590 --> 00:01:00.990
is when ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amir sent ‘A’ishah some provisions and clothing.

00:01:01.189 --> 00:01:07.590
She said to the messenger, "O my son, I do not accept anything from anyone."

00:01:07.590 --> 00:01:12.189
But when he left, she said, "Bring it back to me," and they brought it back.

00:01:12.189 --> 00:01:19.189
She said, "I remembered something the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said to me."

00:01:19.189 --> 00:01:21.989
He said, "O ‘A’ishah,

00:01:21.989 --> 00:01:26.390
if you are given something without having asked for it, then accept it,

00:01:26.390 --> 00:01:29.989
for it is a provision that Allah has offered to you."

00:01:30.189 --> 00:01:31.590
Narrated by Ahmad.

00:01:31.590 --> 00:01:35.709
Souls do not like to appear in the position of being wrong;

00:01:35.709 --> 00:01:40.510
rather, they love to appear as though their opinion is always correct.

00:01:40.510 --> 00:01:44.709
This is a spiritual ailment rooted in caprice.

00:01:44.709 --> 00:01:47.709
The self may know it is in the wrong,

00:01:47.709 --> 00:01:51.310
yet it is the arrogance that dominates it,

00:01:51.310 --> 00:01:55.709
causing it to reject returning to the truth and to persist in falsehood.

00:01:55.709 --> 00:01:57.510
Allah the Exalted says:

00:01:57.510 --> 00:02:07.260
“And they denied them, though their souls acknowledged them, for spite and arrogance. Then see the nature of the consequence for the wrong-doers!” (27:14)

00:02:07.260 --> 00:02:11.860
Indeed, it is faith alone that rectifies these souls

00:02:11.860 --> 00:02:15.860
and makes them submit to the truth once it becomes clear to them.

00:02:15.860 --> 00:02:19.860
As for those with diseased hearts and the hypocrites,

00:02:19.860 --> 00:02:24.860
they do not accept the truth unless it serves their own interests.

00:02:24.860 --> 00:02:27.860
Allah the Exalted says regarding the two groups:

00:02:27.860 --> 00:02:34.860
"And they say, 'We have believed in Allah and in the Messenger, and we obey.'"

00:02:34.860 --> 00:02:41.860
“And they say: We believe in Allah and the messenger, and we obey; then after that a faction of them turn away. Such are not believers.” (24:47)

00:02:41.860 --> 00:02:48.860
"But those are not [true] believers."

00:02:48.860 --> 00:02:54.860
“And when they appeal unto Allah and His messenger to judge between them, lo! a faction of them are averse;” (24:48)

00:02:54.860 --> 00:02:59.860
“And when they appeal unto Allah and His messenger to judge between them, lo! a faction of them are averse;” (24:48)

00:02:59.860 --> 00:03:06.860
“But if right had been with them they would have come unto him willingly.” (24:49)

00:03:06.860 --> 00:03:13.860
“Is there in their hearts a disease, or have they doubts, or fear they lest Allah and His messenger should wrong them in judgment? Nay, but such are evil-doers.” (24:50)

00:03:13.860 --> 00:03:18.860
“Is there in their hearts a disease, or have they doubts, or fear they lest Allah and His messenger should wrong them in judgment? Nay, but such are evil-doers.” (24:50)

00:03:18.860 --> 00:03:24.860
“Is there in their hearts a disease, or have they doubts, or fear they lest Allah and His messenger should wrong them in judgment? Nay, but such are evil-doers.” (24:50)

00:03:24.860 --> 00:03:33.860
“The saying of (all true) believers when they appeal unto Allah and His messenger to judge between them is only that they say: We hear and we obey. And such are the successful.” (24:51)

00:03:33.860 --> 00:03:41.860
“The saying of (all true) believers when they appeal unto Allah and His messenger to judge between them is only that they say: We hear and we obey. And such are the successful.” (24:51)

00:03:41.860 --> 00:03:46.860
"And it is those who are the successful."

00:03:46.860 --> 00:03:53.860
"And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger and fears Allah and is conscious of Him—it is those who are the attainers."

00:03:53.860 --> 00:04:00.860
[Wait, the input skipped 46, continuing from 45]

00:04:00.860 --> 00:04:05.960
We consider ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, to be of the second group,

00:04:05.960 --> 00:04:08.960
who, when the truth became clear to her,

00:04:08.960 --> 00:04:12.310
would retract her opinion and adhere to the truth.

00:04:12.310 --> 00:04:17.310
This story is but a model of such stances,

00:04:17.310 --> 00:04:24.310
demonstrating this character trait upon which the Prophet, peace be upon him, raised her.

00:04:24.310 --> 00:04:30.310
The guidance of the Prophet, peace be upon him, to ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her,

00:04:30.310 --> 00:04:36.310
in his saying, "O ‘A’ishah, if you are given something without having asked for it, then accept it,"

00:04:36.310 --> 00:04:39.310
"for it is a provision that Allah has offered to you,"

00:04:39.310 --> 00:04:42.310
encompasses training in several aspects.

00:04:42.310 --> 00:04:45.310
The first is the prohibition of begging,

00:04:45.310 --> 00:04:50.310
which is for a person to request money or charity from others

00:04:50.310 --> 00:04:53.310
while they are not in need of it.

00:04:53.310 --> 00:04:55.310
The danger of this begging

00:04:55.310 --> 00:05:00.310
is that the one who does it looks at what is in the hands of people and relies upon it,

00:05:00.310 --> 00:05:04.310
while becoming heedless of the One in Whose hand are the treasures of the heavens and the earth.

00:05:04.310 --> 00:05:07.339
Thus, they do not turn to Him to seek provision.

00:05:07.339 --> 00:05:10.500
This type of person

00:05:10.500 --> 00:05:13.500
is easily bought by the oppressors,

00:05:13.500 --> 00:05:15.500
for they are a slave to money,

00:05:15.500 --> 00:05:19.500
and they are quick to fluctuate in their positions and opinions

00:05:19.500 --> 00:05:22.500
according to the money they receive.

00:05:22.500 --> 00:05:26.500
Whoever pays them more, they incline toward them more.

00:05:26.500 --> 00:05:29.569
This is a debased soul,

00:05:29.569 --> 00:05:33.569
of no use in elevating the Ummah or supporting its causes.

00:05:33.569 --> 00:05:36.629
We seek refuge in Allah from this type.

00:05:36.629 --> 00:05:42.629
The second is that if a gift comes without a request or a covetous heart,

00:05:42.629 --> 00:05:46.629
it should not be refused, even if the person is wealthy.

00:05:46.629 --> 00:05:51.629
The Prophet, peace be upon him, raised the Companions upon this,

00:05:51.629 --> 00:05:54.629
and the Companions raised those after them upon it.

00:05:54.629 --> 00:05:57.629
From ‘Abdullah ibn al-Sa‘di:

00:05:57.629 --> 00:06:00.629
He came to ‘Umar during his caliphate,

00:06:00.629 --> 00:06:03.629
and ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said to him,

00:06:03.629 --> 00:06:08.629
"Have I not been told that you manage some of the people's affairs,

00:06:08.629 --> 00:06:11.629
and when you are given a wage, you dislike it?"

00:06:11.629 --> 00:06:13.629
I said, "Yes."

00:06:13.629 --> 00:06:16.629
‘Umar said, "Then why do you do that?"

00:06:16.629 --> 00:06:22.629
I said, "I have horses and slaves, and I am well off,

00:06:22.629 --> 00:06:26.629
and I want my wage to be a charity for the Muslims."

00:06:26.629 --> 00:06:29.629
‘Umar said, "Do not do that,

00:06:29.629 --> 00:06:32.629
for I once intended what you intend.

00:06:32.629 --> 00:06:37.629
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, would give me a gift,

00:06:37.629 --> 00:06:41.629
and I would say, 'Give it to someone poorer than me.'

00:06:41.629 --> 00:06:44.629
Until one day he gave me some wealth,

00:06:44.629 --> 00:06:48.629
and I said, 'Give it to someone poorer than me.'

00:06:48.629 --> 00:06:51.629
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

00:06:51.629 --> 00:06:55.629
'Take it, possess it, and give it in charity.

00:06:55.629 --> 00:06:57.629
Whatever comes to you of this wealth,

00:06:57.629 --> 00:07:01.629
while you are neither covetous nor begging, take it;

00:07:01.629 --> 00:07:04.629
otherwise, do not let your soul pursue it.'"

00:07:04.629 --> 00:07:06.699
Narrated by al-Bukhari.

00:07:06.699 --> 00:07:08.699
This story and others

00:07:08.699 --> 00:07:12.699
show us the concern of the Prophet, peace be upon him,

00:07:12.699 --> 00:07:15.699
for the purification of the souls of the Companions.

00:07:15.699 --> 00:07:19.699
For the noble soul does not look at what is in the hands of people,

00:07:19.699 --> 00:07:23.699
nor does it weary itself by coveting their wealth,

00:07:23.699 --> 00:07:26.699
because it is enriched by Allah.

00:07:26.699 --> 00:07:28.699
And whoever is like that,

00:07:28.699 --> 00:07:31.699
Allah blesses what they possess,

00:07:31.699 --> 00:07:33.699
and increases them from His bounty.

00:07:33.699 --> 00:07:34.980
The third:

00:07:34.980 --> 00:07:38.980
Allah the Exalted provides for whom He wills,

00:07:38.980 --> 00:07:41.980
and there is no specific form

00:07:41.980 --> 00:07:44.980
that His provision to the servant must take.

00:07:44.980 --> 00:07:48.980
Rather, it is as Allah the Glorified and Exalted mentioned.

00:07:48.980 --> 00:07:53.980
“Then, when they have reached their term, take them back in kindness or part from them in kindness, and call to witness two just men among you, and keep your testimony upright for Allah. Whoso believeth in Allah and the Last Day is exhorted to act thus. And whosoever keepeth his duty to Allah, Allah will appoint a way out for him,” (65:2)

00:07:53.980 --> 00:07:57.980
“And will provide for him from (a quarter) whence he hath no expectation. And whosoever putteth his trust in Allah, He will suffice him. Lo! Allah bringeth His command to pass. Allah hath set a measure for all things.” (65:3)

00:07:57.980 --> 00:08:00.980
A gift received without a request

00:08:00.980 --> 00:08:02.980
is part of Allah’s provision for the servant,

00:08:02.980 --> 00:08:06.980
and it does not befit the servant to reject the provision of Allah.

00:08:06.980 --> 00:08:10.980
We ask Allah to provide for us from His vast bounty,

00:08:10.980 --> 00:08:12.980
to fill our hearts with contentment,

00:08:12.980 --> 00:08:15.980
and to make us among those who listen to the word

00:08:15.980 --> 00:08:17.980
and follow the best of it.

00:08:17.980 --> 00:08:22.529
We shall continue in a future meeting, if Allah wills.

00:08:22.529 --> 00:08:26.529
And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

00:08:26.529 --> 00:08:33.019
Our mother ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her.
