A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him, from the Ansar.
I embraced Islam with the first group to do so at the hands of Mus'ab Ibn 'Umayr, may Allah be pleased with him.
I was a guard for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and entrusted with special missions.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, appointed me to expel the Jews of Banu Qaynuqa' from Medina.
And to collect the spoils, wealth, and weapons they left behind.
He also sent me to the Jews of Banu al-Nadir.
To convey his command for them to depart from Medina.
When they intended to betray him.
He entrusted me with taking possession of their homes and wealth and overseeing their departure.
I witnessed Badr and all the battles with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
I was guarding the Prophet, peace be upon him, during the Battle of Uhud.
After the tide turned against the Muslims and they were nearly defeated.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, was wounded and suffered from intense thirst.
I went out to seek water for him from the women, but I found none with them.
So I went to a canal to draw water for him and brought him fresh water.
He drank, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and prayed for my well-being.
In the sixth year of the Hijrah.
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, sent me with ten men.
To the tribe of Banu Mu'awiyah at Dhu al-Qassah.
We arrived among them at night.
The people lay in wait for us and left us until we fell asleep.
Then they came and surrounded us, a hundred men strong.
We were unaware until arrows rained down upon us.
I sprang up with my bow.
And shouted to my companions, "To arms! To arms!"
They jumped up, and we exchanged fire for an hour during the night.
Then the Bedouins charged us with spears and killed my companions.
I fell wounded.
The Bedouins came and struck my heels.
I did not move, so they thought I was dead.
They stripped us of our clothes and departed.
Then a man passed by the slain and recited the prayer of patience (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un).
When I heard him recite it.
I knew he was a Muslim.
So I moved for him.
He noticed me and came to me.
He offered me food and drink.
Then he carried me to Medina.
At the conquest of Mecca.
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, placed me.
In front of him as a commander of the cavalry.
When he entered Mecca and circumambulated the Ka'bah.
I was the one holding the reins of his she-camel, peace be upon him.
During the caliphate of the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar Ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him.
He appointed me over the zakat of the Juhaynah tribe.
Then he summoned me to be by his side.
And entrusted me with the task of monitoring the governors.
And uncovering complex matters in the provinces and territories.
Following the expansion of the Islamic conquests.
Thus, I was the first inspector general in Islam.
When the strife occurred among the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them.
I adhered to the advice of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
I withdrew from the people.
I took a sword made of wood.
And moved to al-Rabadhah.
I resided there until my death.
So, who am I?
