'And [remember] when those who

disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you,

or expel you;

they plot,

and Allah plots,

and Allah is the best of plotters.'

Manaf would be forced to accept blood money.

Now behold the plan of Allah,

the Blessed and Exalted,

and what Allah did to them,

a plot,

but I am devising a plot.

So give respite to the disbelievers;

deal gently with them for a while.'

along with other accusations with which they charged him;

yet in doing so they were lying,

for they did not truly believe

what they were saying,

since they used to place their valuables

in the trust of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Could it ever be conceivable

for a rational person

to entrust his valuables to a man

whom he genuinely considers a liar, a madman,

or a sorcerer?

This is utterly impossible.

This proves

that they did not truly deem him a liar,

just as Allah, the Blessed

they do not deny you,

want to murder me,

so I am entitled to it.'

Rather, he (peace be upon him) said:

'Render back the trust

to the one who entrusted you,

and do not betray the one who betrays you.'

That is: even if another betrays you,

you must never betray,

for a believer never acts treacherously.

Thus the moral conduct of the believer remains

sublime, lofty, and manifest,

even if treachery is committed

Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, cast

deep slumber over all of them.

stepped out toward them,

took a handful of earth,

Allah had completely veiled

Meanwhile, those who intended

to assassinate the Prophet (peace be upon him) remained

standing outside

until a man came upon them

who was not among their group;

he saw them at the door

They replied, 'Muhammad.'

By Allah, he has already passed by you,

scattered dust upon your heads,

to attend to his business.'

They placed their hands on their heads

and found the dirt,

so they began shaking it off,

saying, 'By Allah,

we did not see him!'

Then they peered inside the house

and saw 'Ali,

saying, 'By Allah, here is Muhammad;

he is asleep!'

So they did not stir from their positions

until morning came and 'Ali arose

from the bed,

at which point they were utterly confounded.

They said to him, 'Where is Muhammad?'

that he took an entirely different route,

completely in the opposite direction:

the road leading south toward Yemen.

He walked about five miles

in the direction of Yemen,

while all eyes and minds

expected that the Prophet,

toward Medina.

That was indeed his ultimate destination,

but he wanted to obscure

his trail from them.

He stayed at a place

called Mount Thawr

for three days.

As he walked toward

the Cave of Thawr,

he was walking on his tiptoes

because the terrain was rugged and rocky,

which severely chafed his feet,

The journey grew increasingly arduous for him

until they finally reached the cave

at the mountain's summit.

When the two of them arrived at the cave,

"By Allah, you shall not enter it,

the blessing of the Prophet's touch and supplication,

and how, merely by applying his saliva to the wound,

Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, completely relieved his pain.

The two of them remained in the cave for three nights:

Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night.

Meanwhile, 'Amir ibn Fuhayrah used to graze his sheep near them;

he was the freed slave of Abu Bakr.

He would bring the flock to rest by them after an hour of nightfall,

so they could drink fresh milk,

and he did this every single one of those nights.

He would also follow the footprints of 'Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr

on his way to and from the cave,

driving the sheep over his tracks to completely erase them.

As for Quraysh,

they were utterly infuriated once they confirmed

that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, had escaped

on the very morning of the night they had resolved to assassinate him.

They interrogated 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, and assaulted him

to force him to reveal the Prophet's whereabouts,

but he told them nothing.

When they finally despaired of getting anything from him,

Abu Jahl went to the house of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq.
