Impossibilities of the intellect vs. perplexities of the intellect
A distinction must be made between that which the intellect knows to be false and impossible,
and that which the intellect is incapable of conceiving and comprehending.
The former belongs to the impossibilities of the intellect,
meaning that which the intellect deems impossible to occur.
The latter belongs to the perplexities of the intellect,
meaning that in whose comprehension the intellect is left bewildered.
Thus, revelation and the messengers may give news of unseen matters
in whose comprehension intellects are left bewildered,
such as the affairs of the Last Day, Paradise, Hellfire,
the punishment of the grave, and so forth.
As for that which the intellect deems impossible to occur,
none advocate it except mendacious impostors
and those of corrupt intellects.
