I am one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from the people of Medina.
I was one of the valiant men of the Arabs and one of their most famous figures in courage, daring, bravery, and chivalry.
I was also one of their most lethal fighters during the pre-Islamic Era of Ignorance.
I participated with the army of the polytheists in the Battle of Uhud.
Then I embraced Islam after they departed from the battlefield.
The first expedition I participated in as a Muslim was the Expedition of Bi'r Ma'unah.
That was when Hawazin betrayed the Muslims and killed them all.
Coinciding with this event, I happened to pass by the location.
I was with Al-Mundhir Ibn 'Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him).
We saw birds hovering in the sky.
So we said, "The birds must be hovering over something."
We rushed to see what the matter was.
We found our companions slain where they lay, with the treacherous polytheists surrounding them.
So we dismounted and fought the people.
As for my companion Al-Mundhir, he was killed.
As for me, 'Amir Ibn al-Tufayl took me prisoner.
He then set me free in fulfillment of a vow to manumit a slave on behalf of his mother.
So I returned to Medina.
Yet the sight of my companions treacherous slain never left my mind.
When I approached Medina,
I met two men from Hawazin.
I wanted to take revenge for the Muslims who had been treacherously killed.
So we rested together in the shade of a tree.
When they fell asleep, I killed them.
However, they possessed a covenant of protection from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him),
which I did not know about.
So I came to the Prophet (peace be upon him)
and informed him of what I had done.
He severely reproved me for killing them,
but then he pardoned me,
and he ordered that the blood money for these two slain men be paid.
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) later dispatched me
to the Negus in Abyssinia
with two letters he had written to him.
In one of them,
he requested him to marry him to Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her).
In the other,
he asked him to send to him the remaining Muslims who were still with him.
So I traveled to him
and delivered the two letters to him.
He read them and returned the greeting of peace.
Then the Negus married him to Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her)
and sent his companions to him in two ships.
So, who am I?
