A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
The name of Allah, al-Majid (the All-Glorious), and the effects of believing in it.
The name of Allah, al-Majid, appears in His saying:
"The mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you, O people of the house."
"Indeed, He is Praiseworthy, All-Glorious."
And His saying, "Owner of the Throne, the All-Glorious."
According to the recitation of those who read it in the nominative case, al-Majid.
This is the recitation of the seven, excluding the two Kufans, Hamzah and al-Kisa'i.
For they read it in the genitive case, as an adjective describing the Throne.
Al-Majd (glory) denotes vastness and reaching the ultimate limit in generosity, honor, and majesty.
Thus, Allah, glorified be He, is al-Majid, meaning He is vast in generosity.
There is no generosity above His generosity.
He is glorified by His actions and His attributes.
His creation glorifies Him due to His greatness.
Describing Allah as al-Majid
Indicates the abundance and vastness of His attributes of perfection.
And the inability of the creation to encompass them.
It also signifies the vastness of His actions, the abundance of His bounty, and its permanence.
Among the most important effects of believing in this noble name are:
First: Loving Allah, the Almighty and Majestic,
Who has encompassed His creation with His generosity, grace, and mercy.
Second:
Ceasing to be attached to the weak creature who is inherently in need of Allah,
Regardless of whatever limited glory or generosity that creature may possess.
And turning instead to Allah alone, the Generous, the All-Glorious.
Third:
Glorifying Allah, the Exalted, magnifying Him, and revering Him,
By frequently remembering Him and praising Him through tahlil (saying La ilaha illa Allah), takbir (saying Allahu Akbar), and hamd (praising Him).
Fourth:
Drawing near to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic,
To attain a portion of His generosity and glory.
Just as a person loves to be close to any generous and glorious individual,
So Allah has the highest attribute.
And to Him is the most perfect drawing near.
This is achieved through obeying Him and seeking His pleasure,
And by distancing oneself from His disobedience and whatever incurs His wrath, glorified be He.
To attain glory and generosity from Him, the Almighty and Majestic.
For Allah does not bestow glory, high status, and a good reputation
Except upon those who worship Him alone, glorify Him, and fear Him.
