00:00:00.460 --> 00:00:05.000
*The Garden of Guidance*

00:00:05.000 --> 00:00:07.900
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says:

00:00:07.900 --> 00:00:21.699
“And surely We shall try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and lives and crops; but give glad tidings to the steadfast,” (2:155)

00:00:21.699 --> 00:00:25.699
"And give glad tidings to the patient."

00:00:26.160 --> 00:00:44.530
“Who say, when a misfortune striketh them: Lo! we are Allah's and lo! unto Him we are returning.” (2:156)

00:00:44.530 --> 00:00:47.530
And on the authority of Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her):

00:00:47.530 --> 00:00:51.530
Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) related to her

00:00:51.530 --> 00:00:56.929
that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say:

00:00:57.390 --> 00:01:00.390
"There is no Muslim who is struck by a calamity

00:01:00.390 --> 00:01:04.390
and turns to what Allah has commanded him to say:

00:01:04.390 --> 00:01:08.390
“Who say, when a misfortune striketh them: Lo! we are Allah's and lo! unto Him we are returning.” (2:156)

00:01:08.390 --> 00:01:12.390
'O Allah, with You I seek reward for my calamity,

00:01:12.390 --> 00:01:16.390
so reward me for it and compensate me with something better,'

00:01:16.390 --> 00:01:19.390
except that Allah will surely reward him for it

00:01:19.390 --> 00:01:22.579
and grant him something better in exchange."

00:01:22.579 --> 00:01:23.579
She said:

00:01:23.579 --> 00:01:26.579
"When Abu Salamah passed away,

00:01:26.579 --> 00:01:31.579
I remembered what he had narrated to me from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him),

00:01:31.579 --> 00:01:33.579
and so I said:

00:01:33.579 --> 00:01:37.579
“Who say, when a misfortune striketh them: Lo! we are Allah's and lo! unto Him we are returning.” (2:156)

00:01:37.579 --> 00:01:41.579
'O Allah, with You I seek reward for this calamity of mine,

00:01:41.579 --> 00:01:43.579
so reward me for it.'

00:01:43.579 --> 00:01:45.739
But whenever I intended to say:

00:01:45.739 --> 00:01:48.739
'And compensate me with something better,'

00:01:48.739 --> 00:01:50.739
I would say to myself:

00:01:50.739 --> 00:01:53.810
'Can I be granted anyone better than Abu Salamah?'

00:01:53.810 --> 00:01:55.810
Yet I eventually said it,

00:01:55.810 --> 00:01:59.810
and Allah compensated me with Muhammad (peace be upon him)

00:01:59.810 --> 00:02:04.060
and rewarded me for my calamity."

00:02:04.060 --> 00:02:06.900
Related by Ibn Majah.

00:02:06.900 --> 00:02:09.569
A Benefit:

00:02:09.569 --> 00:02:12.569
Maymun Ibn Mihran (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

00:02:12.569 --> 00:02:18.569
"No servant—whether a prophet or anyone else—ever attained any substantial good

00:02:18.569 --> 00:02:20.569
except through patience."
