Summary of the concepts of Ahl al-Sunnah
Worship is not waived for anyone, no matter what affliction they face.
Some extremist Sufis claim
that worship is waived for the saints of Allah
whom they claim have reached the degree of certainty.
They derive this from a misinterpretation of Allah's statement:
"And worship your Lord until certainty comes to you." (Qur'an 15:99)
However, certainty here refers to death,
according to the consensus of the exegetes.
This is as stated in Allah's account of the disbelievers' words:
“And we used to deny the Day of Judgment,” (74:46)
"Until certainty came to us." (Qur'an 74:47)
And is there anyone more certain in his faith than the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him?
Yet he continued to worship Allah until his death.
He even came out to the Companions during his final illness while they were praying,
and he prayed with them.
Thus, a servant never ceases to be in servitude to Allah
as long as they are in the realm of accountability.
