As the Almighty says:

“They have taken as lords beside Allah their rabbis and their monks and the Messiah son of Mary, when they were bidden to worship only One Allah. There is no Allah save Him. Be He Glorified from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)!” (9:31)

Whoever obeys someone other than Allah and knowingly agrees with them in declaring the forbidden lawful or the lawful forbidden,

has committed shirk in divinity (Uluhiyyah) just as they have in worship.

even if it be the law of Allah the Exalted.

This is the manifest disbelief and the major shirk,

for which Allah the Exalted will accept neither repentance nor ransom from its perpetrator.
