A scholar's grasp of his Ummah's reality shields it from deviation and discord.
Whenever a scholar lives with the concerns of his Ummah and deeply understands its condition and reality,
as well as the plots devised against it by its enemies and chief criminals,
this serves as a barrier protecting it from deviation, turmoil, humiliation, and disgrace.
Such was the case with Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy on him,
when he understood the reality of the Tatars and issued a legal ruling declaring their disbelief despite their claim to Islam,
and the obligation to fight them.
Through him, Allah dispelled the confusion among Muslims
regarding how to judge them and how to deal with them.
