The enduring good deeds. The virtue of the night prayer. On the authority of Salim, from his father, Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: During the lifetime of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), whenever a person had a dream, he would narrate it to the Prophet (peace be upon him). So I wished to see a dream that I could relate to the Prophet (peace be upon him). I was a young, unmarried man, and I used to sleep in the mosque during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Then I saw in a dream as if two angels seized me and took me to the Fire. It was built up like a cased well, and it had two horns like the horns of a well. In it, I also saw people whom I recognized. So I began to say, "I seek refuge in Allah from the Fire! I seek refuge in Allah from the Fire!" Then another angel met them, and he said to me, "Do not be afraid." I later narrated this dream to Hafsah, and Hafsah related it to the Prophet (peace be upon him). Thereupon he said: "What an excellent man 'Abdullah would be, if only he prayed at night." Salim said: After that, 'Abdullah would sleep only a little at night. Related by al-Bukhari.
