Allah, Almighty and Glorious, said:

"So be patient; indeed, the promise of Allah is truth.

And ask forgiveness for your sin,

and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord in the evening and the morning."

And on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him),

from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him),

regarding what he related from his Lord, Almighty and Glorious:

He said, "A servant committed a sin

and said, 'O Allah, forgive me my sin.'

So Blessed and Exalted is He, He said,

'My servant committed a sin

and realized that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them.'

Then he returned and committed a sin again,

and said, 'O Lord, forgive me my sin.'

So Blessed and Exalted is He, He said,

'My servant committed a sin

and realized that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them.'

Then he returned and committed a sin again,

and said, 'O Lord, forgive me my sin.'

So Blessed and Exalted is He, He said,

'My servant committed a sin

and realized that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them.

Do whatever you wish,

for I have forgiven you.'"

"O Allah, my asking for forgiveness while persisting in sin is vileness,

yet my abandoning asking for forgiveness while knowing the vastness of Your pardon is helplessness.

How You show love to me through blessings despite Your lack of need for me,

while I incur Your displeasure through sins despite my desperate need for You!

O You Who, when He promises, fulfills,

and when He threatens, pardons and excuses,

submerge the magnitude of my offense within the magnitude of Your pardon,

O Most Merciful of those who show mercy."
