A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
How one may attain the mercy of Allah, the Exalted, through several means.
The most important of these is, first, to perform what pleases Allah, the Exalted, and what He commands.
And to avoid what incurs His displeasure and what He forbids.
This is achieved by following the upright legislation brought by the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
Allah, the Exalted, says: "And obey Allah and the Messenger that you may obtain mercy."
And He, the Exalted, says: "And establish prayer and give zakat and obey the Messenger; that you may receive mercy."
Second, showing mercy to creation and treating them with excellence.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:
"The merciful are shown mercy by the Most Merciful."
"Show mercy to those on earth, and the One in heaven will show mercy to you."

Third, reflecting upon the Noble Qur'an and listening attentively to it.
Allah, the Exalted, says: "So when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy."
Fourth, seeking forgiveness (istighfar).
Allah, the Exalted, says: "Why do you not seek forgiveness of Allah that you may receive mercy?"
Fifth, reconciling between people.
Allah, the Exalted, says: "The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers and fear Allah that you may receive mercy."
