On the authority of 'Uthman ibn 'Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
"Whoever performs ablution and does so thoroughly,
his sins will depart from his body,
even to the point of exiting from beneath his fingernails."
