In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
An Abridgment of the Prophetic Biography (Seerah),
Authored by Sheikh Musa ibn Rashid Al-Azimi, may Allah preserve him.
The Prophet's Retreat with His Companions Toward the Mountain
Satan, may Allah curse him,
Had cried out that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was killed,
Which severely affected the morale of the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them.
But as soon as they saw him unharmed, life surged back into them,
And he withdrew with them toward Mount Uhud.
Imam Ahmad recorded in his Musnad,
As did Al-Hakim in Al-Mustadrak with a good chain of transmission,
On the authority of Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, who said:
"Satan cried out: 'Muhammad has been killed!'
So we had no doubt that it was the truth,
And we remained in that state, not doubting that he had indeed been killed,
Until the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) appeared between the two Sa'ds—
Meaning between Sa'd ibn Mu'adh and Sa'd ibn Ubadah, may Allah be pleased with them both—
We recognized him by his gait, leaning forward as he walked,"
Meaning his inclining forward when walking.
"And we rejoiced so much that it was as though what had afflicted us had never happened.
He climbed toward us, saying:
'Allah's wrath has grown severe against a people who bloodied the face of the Messenger of Allah,'
And saying at another time:
'O Allah, it is not for them to overpower us,'
Until he reached us."
The Prophet's Ascent onto the Rock on the Mountain
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) wanted
To climb onto a prominent rock on the mountain,
So he tried to rise up to it, but he was unable to do so,
Because he had grown heavy,
Meaning he had gained weight,
And he was wearing two coats of mail,
And weakness had overcome him
Due to the profuse bleeding from his wounds.
So Talhah ibn Ubaydullah, may Allah be pleased with him, crouched beneath him,
And the Messenger of Allah climbed onto his back until he stood upright upon it.
Imams Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi, and Al-Hakim recorded with a good chain of transmission—
And the wording is At-Tirmidhi's—
On the authority of Az-Zubayr ibn Al-Awwam, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
"The Prophet (peace be upon him) was wearing two coats of mail on the day of Uhud,
And he tried to climb onto the rock but was unable to,
So he had Talhah crouch beneath him,
And the Prophet climbed up until he stood upright upon the rock.
Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
'Talhah has made Paradise obligatory for himself.'"
The Final Attack by the Polytheists
When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had settled in the mountain pass
Along with his Companions, may Allah be pleased with them,
The polytheists launched a final attack in which they attempted to strike at the Muslims.
Ibn Ishaq said:
"While the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was in the mountain pass,
Accompanied by that small band of his Companions,
A detachment of Quraysh ascended the mountain above them.
Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
'O Allah, it is not fitting that they should overpower us!'
So Umar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, and a group of the Emigrants fought them
Until they drove them back down the mountain."
Drowsiness Overcoming the Muslims
When this immense battle came to an end,
Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, caused drowsiness to descend upon the believers,
After the wounds and slaughter that had afflicted them,
In order to calm their hearts.
Allah Almighty said:
“Then, after grief, He sent down security for you. As slumber did it overcome a party of you, while (the other) party, who were anxious on their own account, thought wrongly of Allah, the thought of ignorance. They said: Have we any part in the cause? Say (O Muhammad): The cause belongeth wholly to Allah. They hide within themselves (a thought) which they reveal not unto thee, saying: Had we had any part in the cause we should not have been slain here. Say: Even though ye had been in your houses, those appointed to be slain would have gone forth to the places where they were to lie. (All this hath been) in order that Allah might try what is in your breasts and prove what is in your hearts. Allah is Aware of what is hidden in the breasts (of men).” (3:154)
"...a security [in the form of] drowsiness overcoming a faction of you..."
Ibn Ishaq said:
"So Allah sent down drowsiness
As a reassurance from Him upon the people of firm faith in Him,
Such that they slept, feeling no fear."
Imam Al-Bukhari recorded in his Sahih,
On the authority of Abu Talhah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
"I was among those overcome by drowsiness on the day of Uhud,
To the point that my sword fell from my hand repeatedly;
It would drop, and I would pick it up."
Imams At-Tirmidhi and Al-Hakim recorded with an authentic chain of transmission,
On the authority of Abu Talhah Al-Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
"I raised my head on the day of Uhud,
And began looking around, and there was not a single one among them except that he was swaying under his shield
From drowsiness"—
Meaning moving and nodding beneath his shield—
"And that is the saying of the Almighty:
“Then, after grief, He sent down security for you. As slumber did it overcome a party of you, while (the other) party, who were anxious on their own account, thought wrongly of Allah, the thought of ignorance. They said: Have we any part in the cause? Say (O Muhammad): The cause belongeth wholly to Allah. Abu Sufyan's Gloating After the Battle
Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said:
"He lingered for a while,
And suddenly Abu Sufyan was shouting at the base of the mountain:
'Exalted be Hubal!
Exalted be Hubal!'—
Referring to his idols—
'Where is Ibn Abi Kabshah?
Where is Ibn Abi Quhafah?
Where is Ibn Al-Khattab?'"
Imam Al-Bayhaqi said in Dala'il An-Nubuwwah:
"It has reached me that Abu Kabshah was the first to worship Sirius
And oppose the religion of his people.
So when the Prophet (peace be upon him) opposed the religion of Quraysh
And brought the pure monotheism (Hanifiyyah),
They likened him to Abu Kabshah
And ascribed him to him,
Saying: 'Ibn Abi Kabshah.'"
Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said:
"O Messenger of Allah,
Shall I not answer him?"
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied:
"Yes, do so."
So Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said:
"Allah is most High and most Majestic!"
Abu Sufyan said:
"O Ibn Al-Khattab,
This is a day of retribution!"
Then he returned and called out:
"Where is Ibn Abi Kabshah?
Where is Ibn Abi Quhafah?
Where is Ibn Al-Khattab?"
Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, responded:
"This is the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him),
And this is Abu Bakr,
And this is Umar!"
Abu Sufyan said:
"A day for the day of Badr!
Fortune alternates,
And war has its vicissitudes."
Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said:
"They are not equal!
Our slain are in Paradise,
While your slain are in the Fire."
Abu Sufyan said:
"You certainly claim that to be so;
If so, then we have truly failed
And lost!"
Then Abu Sufyan said:
"Indeed, you will find
Mutilation among your dead;
It was not done by the counsel
Of our leaders"—
Meaning our nobles—
Then the tribal zeal of ignorance seized him,
And he said: "Yet,
Since it has occurred,
We do not dislike it."
The Polytheists' Challenge
To Meet at Badr
Ibn Ishaq said:
"When Abu Sufyan departed
With those accompanying him, he called out:
'Your appointment is at Badr
Next year!'
Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah,
Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
Said to a man among his Companions:
'Say: "Yes, that is between us
And you an appointment."'"

Though the longing
Of all the worlds
For one another may endure,
The yearning for you
Can never
Be fully measured.
May Allah
Send blessings upon you
Whenever the call
To prayer is raised,
And whenever lips
Move with the remembrance
Of the Everlasting.
