Pause. Get to know the Companions and the scholars of the highest rank. A new challenge: Who am I? I am one of the Companions. I was a king of Kindah and its obeyed leader. Among my people, I was a man of great nobility and stature. I was known for my generosity and courage. I was a man of sound judgment and boldness. I was described as having an aura of awe and dignity. I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. I arrived with eighty riders from Kindah. No delegation had ever come with such size and density. This was to demonstrate our honor and our strength. It was a delegation befitting the status of kings. We entered his mosque. We had groomed our hair and applied kohl. We were wearing the finest garments, adorned with silk. We captivated the eyes of the people. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "Have you not accepted Islam?" We replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Then what is this silk around your necks?" We tore it off, removed it, and cast it aside. After the death of the Prophet, peace be upon him, I apostatized from Islam, along with some people from Kindah. We were besieged and then taken under a pledge of safety. When I was brought as a captive to Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, I pledged allegiance to Islam anew. He released my bonds. I asked him to give his sister to me in marriage. He did so. I took my sword and entered the camel market. I did not see a single she-camel or camel but that I slaughtered it. The people shouted, "He has disbelieved! He has apostatized!" I threw down my sword and said, "By Allah, I have not disbelieved." "But this man has given me his sister in marriage." "Had we been in our own land," "we would have held a different feast than this." "O people of Madinah," "slaughter and eat!" "And O owners of the camels," "come and take their price." One day, I attended a funeral. Jarir Ibn 'Abdullah al-Bajali, may Allah be pleased with him, was present. The people pushed me forward to lead the prayer. I stepped back and pushed Jarir forward. I said to the people, "I apostatized one day," "whereas he never apostatized." I participated in the Islamic conquests during the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs. My eye was injured one day at Yarmouk. I died after the killing of 'Ali Ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, by forty nights. My daughter's husband led my funeral prayer, al-Hasan Ibn 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with them both. So, who am I? Share your answers with us in the comments below the video.
