Musk al-Khitab (The Fragrance of Discourse)

may Allah preserve him.
Who is it that stretches out His hand by night so that the sinner of the day may repent,
and stretches out His hand by day so that the sinner of the night may repent?
Who is it that calls out every night:
"Is there anyone who repents, that I may accept his repentance?"
"Is there anyone seeking forgiveness, that I may forgive him?"
Who is it that calls out:
"O son of Adam,
even if your sins were to reach the clouds of the sky,
and then you sought My forgiveness,
I would forgive you for what you have done, and I would not mind."
Who is it that calls out:
"O My servants,
you commit sins by night and by day,
and I forgive all sins,
so seek My forgiveness,
and I will forgive you."
Who is it that calls out?
“Say: O My slaves who have been prodigal to their own hurt! Despair not of the mercy of Allah, Who forgiveth all sins. Lo! He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (39:53)

Indeed, He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
Who is it that shows mercy to those who repent,
and encompasses them with His pardon and forgiveness,
and He is the best of those who forgive?
Who is it to whose door voices have thronged,
pleading with apologies, requests, and needs,
and Allah was, and ever remains, merciful regarding them?
He is Allah, glory be to Him and exalted be He.
He forgives the servant his sins,
and conceals his faults for him.
He is Allah, glory be to Him and exalted be He.
The servant stands before Him, calling out to Him:
"My Lord, my Lord."
He calls out to Him after his sins and transgressions,
and his faults and calamities,
which have kept him awake in his bed.
He found no refuge except in Allah,
so he stands before Allah,
saddened by his sins,
burdened by his faults,
and shackled by his transgressions,
after the pleasure has faded,
the desire has passed,
and it has been followed by torment and humiliation.
The constriction of sins has surrounded him,
causing him pain and anxiety.
He looked to the right and to the left,
and found that his soul, which is prone to evil,
had betrayed him,
and that the devil had abandoned him.
He found no one but his Lord.
He stands before Him, apologizing,
calling out to Him from the depths of his heart and soul.
He calls out, "My Lord,"
while certain that Allah is more forbearing and more merciful,
and that Allah is more faithful and more generous,
and that even if his sins are great,
Allah is greater,
greater than everything.
And even if his faults are many,
Allah is more merciful,
and He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Forbearing.
He stands before Allah, broken,
a captive, crushed,
believing in his Lord,
certain of His mercy.
He calls out to Him:
"O Lord,
O Lord."
And behold, Allah, the Majestic,
does not look at his past misdeeds,
but rather rejoices at his turning back and his repentance.
The gates of heaven open,
the words and supplications ascend,
and they reach where Allah wills them to reach.
And Allah, glory be to Him and exalted be He, calls out:
"O My angels,
O My angels,
My servant knew that he has a Lord who punishes for sin,
I have forgiven My servant."
Draw closer to the Most Merciful,
so that joy may embrace you.
Attach your soul to your Lord,
and fill the horizons with light.
Everyone who obeys the Lord
dissolves into the sweetest feeling.
Darkness, then light,
and revelation following it.
If Allah wills a thing, He says to it "Be," and it is.
