So he ate and we ate
Then he prayed and we prayed
Do not perform ablution or place us
Anas bin Malik, may God be pleased with him, said
I saw Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him
On that day, he will be the Commander of the Faithful
He had four patches between his shoulders

And Al-Hasan said:

Sham bin Abdul Malik entered the Kaaba
So he was Salem bin Abdullah, may God have mercy on him
And he said to him
Hey Salem, ask me something
And he said to him
I am ashamed of God to ask in the house of God other than God
When he left, he followed him
He told him
Now I'm out
Ask me something
Salem said to him
The needs of this world or the needs of the afterlife?
And he said
Rather, the needs of the world
Salem said to him
I didn't ask who owned it
How can I ask someone who does not have it?
On the authority of Maslama bin Abdul Malik, he said:
I went to see Omar bin Abdul Aziz, may God have mercy on him, to visit him during his illness
He had a dirty shirt on him
So I said to Fatima bint Abdul Malik
Oh Fatima
Wash the shirt of the Commander of the Faithful
She said
We will do it, God willing
Then come back
So the shirt is intact
So I said
Oh Fatima
Did I not order you to wash the shirt of the Commander of the Faithful?
People will come back to him
She said
By God, no one else has a shirt
On the authority of Malik bin Dinar, he said:
People say
Malik bin Dinar Zahid
The ascetic Omar bin Abdul Aziz
The one to whom the world came and left it

Saad bin Abi Waqqas, may God be pleased with him, said to his son Omar
My son
If you seek wealth, seek it with contentment
If you are not convinced
Kamal does not sing
A man asked Abdullah bin Omar bin Al-Aas, may God be pleased with them both, and he said
Aren't we among the poor immigrants?
Abdullah said to him
Do you have a woman to take shelter with?
He said yes

Do you have a place to live?
He said yes

You are one of the rich
He said
I have a servant
He said
You are one of the kings
Abu Darda, may God be pleased with him, said
People with money eat and we eat
And they drink and we drink
They wear and we wear
And they ride and we ride
They have money to look at
And we look at it with them
They have to account for it
We are innocent of it
Ali bin Sahl, may God have mercy on him, said
Seek comfort
I found her in despair
Some of them said
The soul is willing if it desires it
And if you reduce it to a little, you will be satisfied
The other said
If it doesn't enrich you, it's enough for you
Everything on earth does not enrich you
Al-Shafi’i, may God have mercy on him, said
If you have a content heart
You and the owner of the world are the same
He said, may God have mercy on him
I saw contentment as the head of wealth
So I was holding on to its tails
No one sees me at his door
Nor does he see me as concerned with it
I became rich without a dirham
He commanded the people like a king
Al-Fath bin Khaqan, may God have mercy on him, said
One day I entered upon Al-Mutawakkil
I saw him looking down and contemplating
So I told him
What is this thought, O Commander of the Faithful?
By God, there is no better life on earth than you
I am not more blessed than you
And he said
Better than me
A man with a large house
And a good wife
And present living
He does not know us, so we are harmed
He does not need us, so we despise him
A life of peace
Between words and action
