The Forty Hadith of al-Nawawi.
On the authority of Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both,
the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
"Indeed, Allah has pardoned for my sake my Ummah's unintentional mistakes, their forgetfulness,
and what they have been forced to do under duress."
It is a good (hasan) hadith,
narrated by Ibn Majah, al-Bayhaqi, and others.
This hadith demonstrates the vastness of Allah Almighty's mercy
toward His servants, as He has lifted the burden of sin from them
in cases of unintentional error,
forgetfulness, and coercion.
This underscores the ease and practicality of the Sharia
and the removal of undue hardship from people;
for a Muslim is held accountable only for what they intentionally meant
and carried out of their own free will.
Thus, this hadith instills peace of mind in the soul,
eases the burden upon the servants,
and affirms that the religion of Islam is one of mercy and justice,
not burdening people with what is beyond their power to repel.
