intended to invade the Roman territories, 00:02:07.239 --> 00:02:10.240 I went to him and asked him about it. 00:02:10.240 --> 00:02:12.240 Abu Bakr said: 00:02:12.240 --> 00:02:15.240 "Yes, I have been contemplating that." 00:02:15.240 --> 00:02:18.240 "I have not disclosed it to anyone." 00:02:18.240 --> 00:02:21.300 "How did you know about it?" 00:02:21.300 --> 00:02:25.300 "You must have 00:02:49.620 --> 00:02:51.620 He granted me permission. 00:02:51.620 --> 00:02:55.620 He appointed me as one of the commanders of the armies in the conquest of the Levant. 00:02:55.620 --> 00:03:00.620 I conquered all of Jordan by force, except for Tiberias. 00:03:00.620 --> 00:03:03.620 Its people made a peace treaty with me. 00:03:03.620 --> 00:03:08.620 This was done under the instruction of Abu 'Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah, may Allah be pleased with him. 00:03:08.620 --> 00:03:14.229 Then, when 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, assumed the caliphate, 00:03:14.229 --> 00:03:17.229 he removed me from the leadership of the army. 00:03:17.229 --> 00:03:23.229 I said to him, "O Commander of the Faithful, have I become incapable or have I betrayed the trust?" 00:03:23.229 --> 00:03:27.229 He replied, "You have neither become incapable nor have you betrayed the trust." 00:03:27.229 --> 00:03:30.229 I asked, "Then why did you remove me?" 00:03:30.229 --> 00:03:36.389 He said, "I felt hesitant to appoint you while I found someone more capable than you." 00:03:36.389 --> 00:03:41.389 I said, "Then clear my name before the people, O Commander of the Faithful." 00:03:41.389 --> 00:03:44.389 He said, "Yes, I will do so." 00:03:44.389 --> 00:03:46.389 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, stood up. 00:03:46.389 --> 00:03:48.389 He cleared my name before the people. 00:03:48.389 --> 00:03:53.219 And he appointed me over regions in the Levant. 00:03:53.219 --> 00:03:56.219 'Amr ibn al-'As, may Allah be pleased with him, delivered a sermon. 00:03:56.219 --> 00:03:59.219 When the plague spread in the Levant, 00:03:59.219 --> 00:04:03.219 he said, "This plague is a scourge." 00:04:03.219 --> 00:04:08.219 "So disperse into these mountain passes and these valleys." 00:04:08.219 --> 00:04:10.219 When that reached me, 00:04:10.219 --> 00:04:14.219 I said, "Rather, it is the mercy of your Lord." 00:04:14.219 --> 00:04:16.220 "And the supplication of your Prophet." 00:04:16.220 --> 00:04:19.220 "And the death of the righteous before you." 00:04:19.220 --> 00:04:22.220 "So gather together and do not disperse from it." 00:04:22.220 --> 00:04:26.220 This reached 'Amr ibn al-'As, may Allah be pleased with him. 00:04:26.220 --> 00:04:29.220 He said, "He has spoken the truth." 00:04:29.220 --> 00:04:33.610 Then, my death came during the Plague of 'Amwas. 00:04:33.610 --> 00:04:40.610 Where I and Abu 'Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah, may Allah be pleased with him, were afflicted with the plague on the same day. 00:04:40.610 --> 00:04:44.610
