Allah’s mention of righteous deeds following repentance.
For the Almighty says:
“And whosoever repenteth and doeth good, he verily repenteth toward Allah with true repentance -” (25:71)
He, glory be to Him, confirmed the validity of such repentance by saying:
“And whosoever repenteth and doeth good, he verily repenteth toward Allah with true repentance -” (25:71)
For righteous deeds performed with or immediately following repentance
are a sign of the sincerity of the penitent,
and an indication that the repentance is worthy of acceptance.
This is because sin involves action and movement.
Whoever desists from it will find a void
caused by abandoning that action and movement.
If they fill that void with a counteracting righteous deed
and positive activity,
they occupy themselves with obedience.
Otherwise, the soul will yearn for the sin and transgression
due to the influence of this void felt after desisting from it.
