The essence of the concepts of Ahl al-Sunnah
The servant's will is subordinate to Allah's will.
Allah the Almighty says:
“Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight.” (81:28)
“And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation.” (81:29)
And He the Almighty says:
"So whoever wills, will remember it."
“And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy.” (74:56)
Thus, He, Glorified and Exalted, affirmed for the servant a genuine will and desire.
However, He made it contingent upon His will, Glorified and Exalted, and subordinate to it.
Therefore, it only occurs if Allah wills and desires it.
For He, Glorified and Exalted, is the Creator of the servant and his will.
The root of misguidance in the issue of predestination versus free will
is the failure to differentiate between the two wills.
And the failure to grasp the relationship between them.
Whoever understands this,
his heart will be at ease, and he will not be perplexed by this issue.
